A little Rant

Damn, sounds like this just happened since the OP is barely an hour old.

Sorry to hear about all of that. Was it clearly visible or something that maybe a friend would have known about? Just wondering.

I hope you have other knives to hold you out until the dust settles, J.

Oh I have blades;) That wont be an issue:D

We havehad some problems around town latlely. This person got the score of a lifetime!!

I do have enough redundant gear where this wont be a huge issue. Main thing is my Sig, and Radio were the most expensive, and the radio is gettin replaced by my boss. The other gear was just stuff I can replace with what ive got, except for the surefires, I have to buy new ones. Already bought 1 new one this morning off the exchange. My insurance lady said someone will call me back for some more circle talk probably:jerkit:, but my fingers are crossed.

Gotta stay optimistic.

I have been pondering having a metal shop make the parts I need to make a lockable compartment under my back seat for such things. If you want to look into such a thing. yellow pages under metal (I think) find a sheet metal shop.

Another option is a steel box that is padlocked both in the closed position and with a short 3/8 steel cable around a seat base. It could be stolen only by someone who comes with a cable cutter the size of bolt cutters, and that eliminated 99.9% of the crackhead thugs.

I have a lockable diamond plate box in my expidition. It was a good investment I see now. This is just a beater vehicle, I drive to work and stuff. Ususally I bring in my bag at least, but I was headed right back in, so I just left all my crap in the truck.

Hey J, that sucks beyond anything I've heard about in a while! :thumbdn: I'm sorry that happened to you Bro! -Matt-

Man that sucks!!!

I know how it feels getting stuff stolen out of a vehicle just feet from you house/apartment. If I ever caught someone breaking into a car, I wouldn't even call the police, because I wouldn't want to go to jail...

P.S. You should at least report the incident to the police even if they don't do anything. That way if that guy gets arrested with all that stuff, then they can give it back to you. Also, if a crime is committed with your gun, you will already be on record that it was stolen, so you're not a suspect.

Hey, I'm not rich either, but with as many great people as there are on this forum, I bet we could help replace some stuff. Even if a person can only afford to replace a glow stick for you, at least it's a start, or 3 people could go in on replacing a surefire, etc. I know you might feel weird asking for a handout, but I'm sure we all understand how badly it sucks for you and how hard and long it will take for you to replace everything. Just because you post a list, doesn't mean people are obligated to help, but if they want to they can.

Sorry to hear this... A couple things you definitely should do:

1. Property off the premises of your home should be covered under your homeowners insurance policy. This coverage is intended to cover items stolen when TEMPORARILY away from your home. A bag you take to work with you everyday should be covered.

2. Report the firearm theft to local law enforcement and ATF. If you have the serial number give it to them. If not, they will track the firearm back to the place of purchase (tell them where you bought it) and get the serial number off the 4473. It will go into a national database forever, and will turn up if they try to pawn or sell the pistol to a licensed dealer.

Believe it or not, the fact that they got your pistol actually provides much more pressure on the police to solve your case because of the federal nature of the crime. Cops don't like stolen pistols floating around their streets since they are the type generally used in crime. Good luck, man... hope you get some stuff back.

Hey jw, that truly sucks! I'm really sorry to hear that. The ironic thing is, you may have saved this guy's bacon in the past or maybe in the future.

Lennie Bruce, the long ago comedian/satirist said, that eventually, everybody pays their dues! Let's hope he's right.

Doc

Two things j...

Report the handgun to every federal organization you can think of. That is something you don't need coming back on you.

Two...I have a SuperTool coming back from warranty soon if ya need one.

I did make a report, b/c a firearm was involved. I did also call the local gun shops a little bit ago too in case he/she tries to sell it. They all know me pretty well, so they said they will keep an eye out.

I really dont want anyone to give me anything. Thats not why I posted this, and I dont want anyone to feel like they have too. I just wanted to get this off my chest.

Heres a somewhat list off the top of my head.

blackhawk rappeling harness
200ft of rope, and various beiners, and figure 8s etc.
Full first aid kit- work is gonna help with this one
6 glowsticks of various colors
2 fox40 whistles
PSK in a tac tailor molle pouch
Silva explorer compass
military issue ICBs
Navy blue 5.11 pants
leatherman surge
Benchamade Griptilian
Ranger RD6
2 nalgene bottles
icom portable Radio
Olive Drab Army field jacket
Sigpro 2009 with 4 mags of federal hydrashock.
Surefire G2 LED
Surefire E1E
Prybars, side cutters
All this was in a Jansport backpack, except for the rope stuff, which was in a small black
adidas duffel.

Again, Im not lookin for a handout guys. I know how we roll around here, I just dont think its right for you guys to do anything.

Dude...I totally understand you didn't post it as a charity case. Calm down, breathe...I know it sucks to have your gear jacked and I was offering a hand if I could. Honestly, it's no skin off my back, I don't really "work" for my money anymore[ gone are the days of construction, rig work, and security]. I am employed by Academy. I walk around a sporting goods store all day deciding how I am going to use my discount. :D

I hope your right man. The cops round here arent the greatest, and I have heard of alot of firearms thefts in the past. We dont currently have to get handgun permits from the sherrif to buy. All we do is the fed backround, fill out papers, pay and go. No wait or anything.

I'd never keep anything in my car I didn't want to lose.

I'd be REAL paranoid about losing a gun, not only from the aspect of it being used to shoot someone but also from the aspect of it being used in a crime, then you being considered a suspect when they ran the serial number.

Be sure to report it stolen to the Man.

CALL YOUR HOMEOWNER'S OR RENTER'S INSURANCE. The things that were stolen were personal property and are in no related to your car owner's insurance, even if you had purchased full coverage. They were stolen from your car, but they are personal property. Only things that are affixed to the car (ie stereos) are potentially covered by an auto policy.

And let me say, man...i have done the volunteer FF route and I know that gear is important to have. If you decide to take a hand, even if it's on loaner 'til you get yours back, you know you'll find it here...

Also, since it was work-related stuff as well, maybe someone from work or a union or what have you would like to intervene on your behalf [read: light a fire under the ass of] with the insurance company...

Jake man, that sucks bro. I say you put another bag in the car, leave it in plain sight(dumbasses ussually come back), put a bear trap in the bag, or just sit at your window waiting. You might not get your stuff back, but it will make you feel alot better.

Tony brings up a good point. This guy scored big so watch your stuff to make sure he doesn't come back for another jackpot. Make sure you keep an eye on things for awhile and let your neighbors know.

That sucks. Someone asked me once who I would want to meet if I could choose anyone in history. I choose whoever broke into my house in Nov. 1995. Sure would enjoy getting to visit with him.
