A Matched Pair: GEC + Case

Good lookin ‘buster pair 👍🏼
I think this seahorse whittler and urban jack go pretty well together. I dyed the case myself and the color matches the GEC almost exactly. And lots of different blades too.

Really good pair and really good picture!

The Case is wider throughout the frame than the GEC; therefore, allowing the blade tangs to be more sunken than the GEC blade tangs and the blade tips to sit a tad lower in the well than the GEC.

I think the shape of the clip is an interesting comparison between the Case and GEC sowbelly’s. For most patterns that are common between the two companies, I typically prefer GEC clip shapes. But on the Sowbelly, I definitely prefer Case. What’s your take, Ed?

Here’s my pair of the day.

I’ve always loved the look of a deep reddish/orange/brown knife paired with stag. This 47 pattern Case Bros came to me via a GAW via JohnDF JohnDF . I’ve enjoyed it immensely and added a brushed finish making it my own. There are only a few knives that strike me as needing a polished finish. Stag, however, does lovely with a bit of bling.

Plus, it’s always nice to have a worker and a looker in the pocket!

Y’all have a great day…if you’re at work or at the beach!

I prefer the clip blade on the Case as it's a bit beefier toward the tip of the blade. Besides, the clip on the Case Sowbelly was chosen by Tony Bose when he collaborated with Case for the Case/Bose Sowbelly.

Excellent pair sir. I’ll take wharncliffes on the rocks any day.

All three are great! The marrow bone duo are a particularly captivating pair.

Tiiiiiimmmmm
berrrrr!
Russlocks are amongst my fave Cases..this one jigged Rosewood. The Brazillian Beaver 42 Oregan Trapper is a perfect compromise size wise between the 72s and 23s.
Cheers.
The question is…have you always liked Russlocks, or did they grow on you? They are in the category of patterns that I thumbed my nose up at first, but am slowly coming to appreciate.

I realize that the game I played was very limited, and perhaps interesting, because there were not many obvious matches. My collection includes 12 GEC knives and 15 Case. So to come up with 8 and 8 - I couldn’t be picky.

Thus, a pairing crops up that I would have most likely never have put together.

My wife called this, “a nice wallet and some worn jeans”.

Sounds like a good enough reason to me to pair a spear and a wharncliffe!

I really like the comparison of the sowbellies... great stuff...

My "matching" is more in the realm of handle materials.... these are pairs I frequently carry.... two combinations in stag...

and, the combination riding in the pockets today... for wood Wednesday.... a Case/GEC wood matchup... ebony and maple burl....

Some things just go together cause you’re eyes like them together. I like the Micarta with the sycamore. I also like a big single bladed knife with a stockman. Have a great day!

I love seeing these combos you guys are posting. I’m a sucker for a good GEC/Case pair.
