A Midsummer Night's Snark

I'm thinking about selling my cabin, and finding another elsewhere. I really like the place, but the dynamic has changed there big time since I first purchased it. There were a few cabins behind a locked gate when I got it. We pretty much had the place to ourselves, except when the other owners would show up, which wasn't very often. About six months ago, a piece of land sold there. Very cool people, I like them a lot, but they're full timers. Now, the gates always open, and they're always there. One of the other owners didn't like the idea of having full timers living across the lane from him, so he sold his property on the river. A few weeks ago, three brothers bought it. Found out they're going to build three cabins on it. They don't live far away, so they'll be there quite often. I like the people there, but I go to my cabin to get away from it, not to go visit other people. I have neighbors at home, if I want to go visiting. So, as you can see, it has changed big time for us. I'm thinking of getting electric hooked up, rocking the driveway, cosmetic improvements, etc, and selling it for a decent profit, for a down payment on a more private place. Sucks somewhat, but, life goes on.

That sucks Dubz. I remember how stoked you were when you first got it. I know one of the biggest points for you was its relative secludedness. Funny how things can change in a relatively short span of time. Hope everything turns out for you man.

Thanks man. It does suck, yet makes it kind of exciting to see what else we can come up with. It's funny, but when the wife and I go together, I like the solitude, but when I go alone, I enjoy having the neighbors, haha. They're really cool people. W like to get whiskey drunk and live it up. But over all, I liked it better before.

Yup, we're not getting any fewer people in the world. Harder and harder to find a nice place that's also a secluded place. My folks retired to Boliver Peninsula a little north of Galveston a decade ago. It got a lot of attention when Hurricane Ike washed 90% of the houses away. Did that scare people off? Not quite. The attention the place got drove housing prices up 120% overnight. And it went from a hidden place for locals to a place where people fly in from all over the country. Go figure.

Bolivar Peninsula is a nice little place. Good bull red and shark fishing. I was shocked at prices after Ike. I thought there might be a bargain to be had. I was wrong.

Sorry to hear about your place Dubz.

Sorry to hear about your place Dubz.

It's not really that big of a deal, just turned out way different than we ever thought it would. I wanna find a place that has one long driveway going to a single piece of property, verses several properties on a single lane.

Early this morning, my best friend of nearly 20 years passed away. He was my brother. I loved that man more than life. We saw some of the best times of our lives together, but also some of the darkest. He stuck by me through everything and taught me so much. That's the reason I drove all that way last night, to see him one last time and to say goodbye. I missed seeing him by mere hours. Cancer had riddled his body, he was in so much pain. But now my brother Al is with his beautiful dog Tyson and he feels no more pain. I'm so glad that he's not in any pain anymore but a part of me died today..

I might be of the air for a bit folks. I'll come see you all soon. Love you all, from Springy..

Sorry to bring the mood down..

My sincerest condolences my friend. I wish I could help in any way aside from knowing your pain. About 10 years ago I lost a friend I had from when I was very young.

If I can help, feel free to pm or email me.

Stay Strong.

bummer that it'll be a few decades before you get to see your buddy & his dog again, good that he's not in pain any longer.

Awful news, BeeKay. My best wishes for you. But glad your friend is at peace after so much pain.

Geez Springy, sorry to hear of your loss. That damn disease has affected everyone. You have my utmost condolences.

My sincere condolences, Springy. I lost my older sister to cancer a few years ago - 3 days shy of her 50th birthday. I think about her almost every day. I'm sure you'll honor and cherish the memories of your friend.

Our deepest condolences Springy. Smoke and Prayers on the way brother.
