A Midsummer Night's Snark

I feel bad for you guys and your State laws. I know every State is different... but in all of Canada you can carry whatever you want, when ever you want (except for push daggers or automatics) as long as it is not concealed. The only thing you need to do is provide an explanation for your carry if an officer asks you about it. :D

And this is my issue with "open carry only" laws, such as Canada and California have - these laws preclude the carrying of a fixed blade if you have to put on a suit coat, rain coat, heavy winter coat (not required in Texas :D), sweater or even just want to leave your shirt tail out. I like their lack of length limits (well, except for LA), but the open only part is a dislike of mine. What do y'all do in the winter? Do y'all have to carry even an 11/13/14 on a belt outside of your parkas?

There's a couple I know who moved to LA. I told them, "I'll see y'all when y'all come back to Texas to visit." She said, "Well, you could come visit us in LA." and I told her "Nope, don't have a knife short enough (3" oc only) for LA." The shortest fixed blades I have are Western L/F/648Bs (3-1/2" to 3-5/8") and L/F/628s (3-1/4" to 3-3/8").

I guess it depends on the officer you talk to ;) I've heard some cases where an individual has found that one officer that was having a bad day and almost got a weapon charge for a simple box cutter.

Last time I was in a uh... interesting situation....I was with a buddy coming back from the gun club. We pulled into a spot check and they accused us of having drugs in the vehicle (we just ran over a dead skunk 1km back) lol. After explaining everything they still didn't believe us, so we got pulled out of the vehicle and consented to a search (as we had nothing to hide). I had an officer remove all my EDC's and place them on the hood of my buddies truck as he was going through my pockets. They all just stared lol. After we popped the trunk the only other thing they wanted to see what our licences for the firearms (which we provided). Its a rare thing here in Canada to run across a vehicle with as many firearms in it as we had that night :D they were a bit in awe. After everything checked out they apologised. One of them asked me my reasons for all the knives, I told him one was for food, one was for cardboard, one was for letter opening, and the last was for yard work/ whittling. He laughed and walked away.

Yeah one could do everything... but that's just not fun :D

As my former law instructor in college explained to me; our definition of concealed loosely translates to 'going out of your way to hide something'. If it is on your belt as the sheath was designed, and your clothing just happens to fall over it in the course of the day and you do not fix it, they then have to prove that you were going out of your way to hide it. Which, if you have it on the outside of your belt / pants and hanging the way the sheath was designed you are in perfect compliance because if you were trying to hide it, you would have it on the inside of your waste band or in a pocket ;)

My un-tucked tshirt hangs over both my EDC fixed blades

edit: This is also how we can get away with carrying folding knives... the clip is visible on the outside of the pants making it 'visable'. Technically if it was in the pocket it could be classified as concealed :D

That wasn't too bad of a way to kill a growler and an afternoon. Thanks for playing guide and letting us borrow your gear, Todd!

Interesting.
These laws all have conflicting rationales... kind of maddening.
In NYC you MUST keep it concealed COMPLETELY. (I don't live there anymore)
I've taken to carrying my folders IWB at 4-o'clock all the time, so it's nice and discrete. Fixed blades go on the belt, and may be visible or not, but usually only worn if I will have a covering garment for optional discretion.

Did you pee in the boat, the river, or the empty growler?

The nice thing about the "Live Free or Die" state (where I live) is that I can carry ANY knife I want, in ANY way I want. The suck pill is that neighboring Taxachussetts hasn't noticed that NH's knife laws haven't caused any increase in trouble, so MA still has quite a few restrictions that vary from town to town - and I have to go there for work all too frequently. But today being Sunday, I might wield dual Machaxen.....because I CAN.

Hey Daizee, I continue to be impressed by my Becker head growler's ability to keep cold liquids cold and warm liquids warm for a long period of time.

I was really glad I got two. I use one for screwdrivers and one for coffee. It works out beautifully! If you "charge it" too, so pour in ice water before something cold or almost boiling before hot it works even better!

Love my growler as well. It has became my kayak "cup".

Lately it's been getting full of sweet tea... As I been drinking whiskey straight from a flask and/or beer out of bottles when kayaking... Here they won't fill a 64 ounce growler. But it still gets used quite a bit.

On another note, trying to pick between a 10" sliding compound miter saw and a 10" table saw.. Around same price so really I'm just trying to figure out which I'd use more... I'm thinking the table saw... ? Opinions on which is more useful of the 2 ?

you can't rip longer boards with a miter saw.

Table saw is a little more versatile. With a miter gauge you can to what the miter saw would do, not as easily but you can do it. Look for episodes of New Yankee Workshop on youtube and see what that guy can do with a table saw.

BTW, had a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie dough blizzard from DQ last night. Amazeballs.

No problem. The bottom is down there somewhere..... Just make sure you get your equitable share.
