A Midsummer Night's Snark

Summers in LA used to be great. But the drought has ruined that. Did a 3-mile hike up the Burbank Hill yesterday and I might as well have been in the Mojave. Temps aren't bad compared to the rest of the country but everything is dry and dead.

I wonder if this place serves the waffle fetishist. They were closed, so I didn't get to find out.
Be great to get my waffle, beer, and tobacco needs all in one convenient spot.

While we were in the adjacent Family Dollar looking for batteries, my wife saw a drug deal go down.
Questionable orthography, but great location. Pure class. ;) :D

About an hour-and-a-half later, I've finally gotten the printer heads clean enough to print. What a great way to spend an afternoon. Might need a beer, or two.

uh.....might?!?!

or 3 or 4, by the sound of it. I had no idea you let such an exciting life on the weekends. If that was my weekend, I'd need a whole 12-pack just to wash the taste of banality and shame out of my mouth. I, OTOH, did all kinds of ........yeah. pretty much jack doodley squat. I'm washing the taste out as we speak.

Gus, didn't you hear, the new thing to do with printers is when they break or run out of ink or just in general don't act right, you throw it out and go get a new one. It's so much more cost effective.

(Sarcasm aside, it is cheaper to buy a new printer with fresh ink supply then to go get new ink.)

Just about. I needed a scanner about three years ago and a scanner/printer/copier was only $50. Ain't bad either. I think the ink was $16 last time I bought a cartridge. Been a while since I priced just a basic color printer but I want to say I've seen then as low as $25. You'd think there'd be more than that just in the materials to build the thing.

Went to another SCA event today - tournament started at noon - outside in the 95 degree heat.
Made it to the semi-finals, which did not upset me, considering how long I've been out of the game and how out of shape I am.

Fear the walking dead is re-runs of the first two episodes tonight... no new one...:grumpy:

The cave I posted pics of a while back? 20-something guy died there today.
My caving buddy went to rappel there today and instead had to assist with a body recovery.
Be careful out there people.

Just placed a $300 order for gun stuff, in case you were wondering how my life was better than yours.

I'd reply, but it would be rude.

I've seen gun stuff online. Drove by a store that had some as well. No point stopping though.

But I may soon be in the market for a beater car for my sixteen year old. Then all my nonexistent gun money can go to ultra high insurance rates.

Yay.

I'm with you, Dubz. So freaking hot and humid here right now. Dogs don't even want to go out for a walk. Got at least two more days of this before things start to cool off.

I don't hate the summer, but I sure don't love the heat. Luckily, we haven't had but a few uncomfortable nights here....which means that even tho it's hot as Hades today the pool is still pretty, uh....refreshing. Slept outside in the new hammock last night. Actually was inside the sleeping bag - temps in the high 50°'s. Looking at the weather for the rest of the week, think I'm gonna hold off on the traditional Labor Day pool closing. 90° thru Thursday, 70's nighttime temps....warmer than it's been all summer.

oh man, sure was hot today, even though it didn't really FEEL it.

went out with the big boy chain saw to buck up the Timber! oak...

got it all done, and then some, a lot of clean up too.

but that walk up the hill with the 'barrow of tools. damn. i was done.

fitbit says my peak heart rate was 158 or so for 11 minutes. the zone.

lots of points walking and sweating.

course, i spotted a number of other trees that need some bucking and stuff. smaller stuff, so i'll bring the "smart wood holder" and that will save my back, and saw, as well as generally be faster.

pool closing. i did it very late last year. after the 10/31 storm. some years earlier, but not much.

this year? eh, the algae LOVES this humidity and sun, and it's drinking the chlorine. wild.

I had to buy my own car and pay for the insurance, gas, and maintenance myself and if I ever have kids I'll make them do the same. I drive old beaters as it is so they'll probably have a newer car than me. But by then my '84 K5 will be considered a classic.

i have $2500 for a new rifle burning a whole in my pocket :D

I'll sell you a rifle for $2500...

well, that's the new price + 9mm conversion.

if you have one already, it's used, so half price at most ;)

very specific rifle.

We may go the "you want it, you pay for it route" but we may also look at it as a giant taxi fee and put the boy to driving himself and his brother everywhere. But given how slow he is to get his license, I may have spent way too much time thinking about the subject at all.

I got my license just as soon as I could. Lots of kids now just don't seem to really care about getting it.
