I too love my KME. Spendy but worth it. Invest in the diamond kit over the standard and toss in a chisel tipped sharpie so you can make sure you're matching the edge and a magnifying glass or jewler's loupe helps too.

I have a worksharp too. I use that for the large outdoor knives that are too large for the KME and would benefit from a convex edge. Different uses, different edges, different sharpeners.

i prefer my edge pro apex for that kinda system

guy that makes them claims to have invented the system "everything else is a copy"

i paid for my own. didn't get one for free.

I'm trying to decide between the KME or a set of stones
Get the KME, definitely trust me on this! Cause when "worse comes to worse" you can use just the stones if that is the method of your choice.

They changed up their kit. They come with the diamond kit now. However get both sets of jaws, strops, and convex rod and you'll be good to go!

A woolrich shirt jac, lost by a dollar. Then found another just like it for an amazing price, plus it was buy instantly, but someone bought it before I could

Wait til you get sniped for a penny on an 1874 Springfield Trapdoor bayonet with scabbard and frog. That'll make you less than happy for real.

So, saw this picture on Facebook... Looked yummy till I kept looking... What's wrong with this picture?

That's what I mean. spend the extra money and buy the kit with the diamond hones. They did change the kits though, the diamond kit is more expensive but comes with more stuff. The base is a worthwhile investment and is part of the diamond kit and it also comes with a strop. I just use a leather belt to strop, works fine but my kit didn't come with their strop. The convex tri-hone is a must if you have any recurve blades. I have a couple Ken Onion designs that needed it.

The strop is extra. I believe it's $20 for the kangaroo leather strop, and another $20 for the compound. They have 4 different compounds though, 4 micron, 1.5 micron, 1 micron and .1 micron... I think.

In other news, I do believe I'm in trouble... LOTS of trouble. Just started looking at a new car, since my car is 10 years old and has 200,000+ miles... I got sucked into the vortex of the M5 and yeah, I... I'm in trouble!

We're looking at new cars for Misti right now too. Definitely won't be buying new though. Probably 3-5 years old and most likely a Camry. There are a couple Altimas that we are looking at too. The Altimas are priced right, but the closest Nissan dealer is 90 miles away if we ever have troubles with it.

If you are at all mechanically inclined, Nissans (at least use to be) pretty easy to work on. They are decent enough vehicles too. I just can't see myself going to a Japanese car after being in an American for so long. I'm looking at either German or American again. Although I'm not looking to get rid of Angel, just get something I can give her some breaks with.

Nope. On the KME website, the diamond kit comes with the strop and base now plus an extra coarse stone. I think I paid $150 or $160 for just a three stone diamond kit, then another $25 for the base. So $205 for a 4 stone kit and base and strop is a deal.

'09 Altima the best car I've ever owned. Zero trouble. My daughter bought a used one. She wrecked it earlier this year and bought a '15 Altima to replace it.

None of the current American cars really seem like a good choice right now. The Camry has a great track record. I really just want something that is going to be really reliable. Her current Dodge Stratus has been far from reliable and every winter it gets louder and louder on cold starts. It could be -30 one morning and it will start fine and the next morning it could be 0 and I'll need to jump it. Never have figured that one out.

Good to hear. The 2 we are looking at are '14s. The price online suddenly jumped 2 grand on them. Will have to see what happened there.

Just spitballing here, but I imagine it is not prudent to poke the meat with a bunch of toothpicks if you want to keep the juices in the meat tender.

I agree. Good deal. I got 5 diamond stones and the base... But I paid a bit more too...

I love the kme... But I am interested in one day trying the edge pro or wicked edge... I'd like to be able to do larger blades easier... More efficiently... But still with a similar guided system.

6" blade or less and the kme is perfect for me... I can sharpen larger blades with it... But it gets less and less efficient... Angle changes a little after 6" and keeps getting further and further the longer you go.... You can move the blade in the clamp to help correct this.... But again... One day I'd like to try another system that is more efficient and just plain easier for larger knives. I'd also like to be able to go lower than 17 dps...

All that said... Still love my kme.
