You get uses to it. This is mildest summer we've had in awhile, the hotest it's been was about 105. It's usually in the triple digits from mid to late June through late agust early September

It's not the temp that's the problem. It's the drought here. You don't get used to that.

Half the population of the Central Valley are losing their livelihoods and people all over the state are losing their homes to these damn fires. I'll take a 120-degree temperature if it meant rain for a while. I'm safe where I am, but I think Julio is closer to areas dealing with real problems.

Two different tools, the sharpmaker is only useful if you already have an edge, whereas the worksharp can completely repro file a knife

I don't doubt it's bad, but I am quite familiar with drought, oklahoma, at leat my part, has been in a pretty severe drought for going on 8 or years.

Looks like fun. I'm more old school revolvers and bolt action rifles. But I like to get the AR's out once in awhile to.

I like everything. I'm not so much into collectible stuff, antiques and the like. But if it's a shooter, I want it.

Parent renewed their vows on saturday. Really nice reception and great after party till around 4am or so.... Man i got WASTED. Spent all of yesterday trying to recover. Hung over as hell and sore from dancing. Still feeling it. But.....

I have ammo in my kitchen and a brush guard in my living room and you're still more redneck than me.

I got bored and drove down to the Ludlow Massacre Memorial little more than an hour's drive south of me. Basically it was a miner's strike that went bad back in 1914. Just up the road they built a town about a decade later that is now mostly abandoned. A few pics of some of the ruins.

just a few miles up the road was this building with bars on the windows. Probably a jail but could maybe be to keep people out of there too.

There were all kinds of old stone walls and foundations and remnants of bridges in the area due to the mining operations.

Anyway, went looking for a few other ghost towns in southern CO but was limited since my little pickup is only 2wd. I actually did get it stuck when I pulled over to let someone pass and when I went to pull back out I slid into a shallow ditch. Experience and judicious use of the skinny pedal saved the day though and I was able to carry on. Didn't find and other true ghost towns but passed through many that were close. Saw a lot of cool scenery driving through the mountains and had a fun time anyway.

He's from Florida, that automatically does it. :D

I suppose so. But there's something to be said for being born in a town that hosts one of the nations largest rodeos and has it's own brand of whiskey. And one time my dad played a wise man in a living nativity and the head pastor had to ask him to take the dip out of his mouth.

That's awesome hoss, I love stuff like that.

We went down to licoln NM,where Billy the kid got started, a few years back, awesome place

Who says the wise men didn't chew t'bacc-y? The preacher obviously didn't read that part of the Christmas story.

Would you guys recommend the Spyderco Sharpmaker over the Ken Onion Worksharp or vise-versa?

they're both pretty different.

bang for the buck is on the motorized unit with the optional 4 wheel add-on

I bet. Not a small amount of work to be done there.

Yeah....worked on the tree fort for a few hours and just spent a ½ hr. in the pool....the top ~1 ft. was warm, the rest not nearly so.....but I didn't mind. Needed desperately to cool off and stop sweating. I'll have to close it soon, tho. I really need to look into a DIY solar heater......and then find the time and inclination to build it....

i thought about a swim today... but not feeling it. recovery is faster lately.

probably will close it all down soon. save some $$$ on chems, and more on power, and bah. the faster teh cover is on, the less work ejecting salamanders, leaves, and stuff.

still, it's going to be pissy hot for a few days or even a week ++ so, we'll see. definitely by end of month.

I can't stand high heat high humidity climate......

Hope you all had a good labor day, me and mine spent three whole days cleaning the house, and me cleaning the garage and shop. Got a lot done. But heres a question for you technical guys..... I put a whole quart of gear oil in my lathe today. I usually put a quart a year in it. Its a good sized lathe, (about 1,800 lbs) it's not a engine so it doesnt burn the oil, it doesnt leak a drop either, so where the hell does the oil go? Hmmph.

are you using it much more?

is the oil a consumable like a chainsaw?

how moist is your shaft? :D

If you're going for a rod system go for the KME over the sharpmaker (trust me on that!)

I used to have the sharpmaker, but I got rid of it. Right now I use the KME and the Ken Onion Worksharp. However I will say, I use the KME a LOT more.
