A small kit I'm working on w/ pics

That is a great idea for a kit. I too am trying to build a kit and don't want to break the bank with 4000 dollars worth of stuff lying around. In regards to the water purification there is a recent thread regarding the BCB water purifying straw with photos next to an IZULA. I haven't done enough research to say they work well but what I read they seem to. I know your pressed for space, but I would recommend a space blanket. And have u considered attaching a survival bracelet to the back for the extra cordage, u could put in on your wrist when needed. I will send you one if you want one.

Back from the dead! For cordage I have actually decided to weave it through the MOLLE webbing on the back and make essentially 2 large belt loops out of. I appreciate the generous offer on the bracelet, but I finally broke down and learned the cobra weave and made a couple just last weekend. :D

one of those ESEE Bandana's and a few safety pins also add a folding razor blade to couple with psk fishing kit. Fresnel lens, and some foil

Re: extra 550 cord- If you daisy chain it 15-20 feet makes a perfect shoulder strap.

Also, the SAK is pretty redundant when you have the Gerber. The spare batteries also take up a bunch of room that could be used for something else. Granted, a flash light is useless w/o batteries, but if you rotate them out regularly you should be good to go. Maybe a small green laser pointer, a space blanket, and some iodine tabs.

I've made lots of changes to this kit since December. Other than reference, the original pic and contents is pretty much moot. :D

Shoulder strap? What, you mean like the 30 feet I used to make this shoulder strap for my pack kit? :D

Yea I caught the date after I posted. Your welcome regarding the bracelet.
On another note could someone post how to braid the cord as shown on the pack kit. Thanks in advance.

i'd suggest some stainless saftey wire. it's like 550 cord or duct tape in that thereare many uses for it. Harbor Freight has small 25' rolls for $1... but it's actually cheaper to buy a bigger roll and make a roll the size you need.

the $1 rolls are about perfect for sticking in a glove box, tank bag, EDC kit or whatever.

i'd also suggest an AA powered light. the batteries are easier to find and less expensive than AAAs. yes, the light will be bigger, but it will also be brighter and run longer.

One piece of cord is how I did that one. Snake it like this, clip the ends together with a binder clip and braid each U-shape piece like it's a single strand.

You know, some of you guys could post some pics of YOUR mini kits in here if you want since we're bumping zombie threads and adding stuff to a kit that has changed a lot over the last 6 mos. :D

Nice kit! Now I want one of these also. I think you've covered the basics very well.

Always two schools of thought.

1. Once you establish your kit, only rotate perishable items through and don't rape, rob and pillage on things that might be vital in a real emergency.

2. If you're not constantly evolving it, it's stagnant.

Both can be taken to an extreme, like the rest of life, you have to strike that balance.

Cool kits though!

lol ok I'll particpate in the thread necromancy since I have something kinda similar.

This isn't a PSK, more of an Urban/EDC kit. It's in the CountyComm version of the pocket organizer, which fits nicely into the pocket of my cargo pants.

These items ride in the front mesh pocket:

Zebra F301 pen
Maratac AAA LED
chapstick
mini-bic

These go inside:

Fisher spacepen
pencil
sharpie
Rite-In-The-Rain notebook
ceramic sharping rod
P-54 can opener
Red LED keychain light
Flashdrive
widgy bar
safety-pins

I'd like to see benedryl added to your kit.. I know its an edc but I think its to often over looked and has many benefits.

Benadryl, tylenol, imodium, water purification tabs.

First Aid is something I've taken an interest in as of late. I'm currently assembling some new Level 1 and Level 2 FAKs and planning to take a "Crisis/Casualty Care" FA course this fall.

Damn, I can't believe I missed this before. That looks great Adam. I really want one of the ESEE Packs for a truck kit with the 3MIL at some point...but at the price of that edc organizer I think I'm going to get one and put a kit together with an Izula for now. At least it looks like an Izula will fit.

JOBEN how do you like the Maratac flashlight? I was thinking of getting one. Oh and Adam thanks for the pic and directions for the cord. I will try it tomorrow! :D

Yep, Izula will fit easily Mist. Got mine in there now as a matter of fact.

I love it.

It's so small you can drop it in a pocket and forget it's there till you need it.

The 3 brightness settings are very useful. High is VERY bright for a light this small.

You can stand it on the tailcap like a candle.

The only things I don't really like are the clip and lanyard bail. They're detachable and tend to detach too easily.

iTP has a very similar model the A3 EOS, you might want to take a look at too.

[edit]

btw, if you do get the maratac one...get a widgy bar too...they look kinda silly, but they are suprisingly useful. I love mine.
I use it for all the prying poking and scraping that I might otherwise be tempted to (ab)use a knife for :)

Thanks JOBEN I will look into the other recommendation as well, and regarding the Wedgy bar I was planning on getting a couple. Thanks a lot.

Adam I forgot to mention in earlier post.... Very nice kit.. You're encouraging me to take part in building one myself, seems I'm totally unorganized at the moment..

Where is the large plastic trash bag hiding?? I can't see it in the pic....

Thanks Daze. Just an idea I had that I thought others might get some use out of.

You can actually see the trash bag in the pic that shows the contents. It is peeking out of the right stow pocket.
