Posting from my phone. Seems to have automatically split this into two posts.
Great pics Dan, it looks like you're enjoying some unusually good Welsh weather :)
Thanks for bringing us along 👍😊

You met Johnny the other day, now you could go for a walk with Jack Black Jack Black
It’s only a 5 hours drive to Leeds 😎

NOW in a new form ~

This is a LAURI PT blade 3-3/4" with the birch bark stacked between a green heart bolster and cap for 4-5/8" of handle.
It is a sleek and very comfortable in hand, puukko.

I did go for a walk about this afternoon but the knife handle was drying so couldn't come out and play.

Had my newly acquired neck compass with me though, made by a BCUSA Canadian brother. Always knew my way home.

Wow! Nice work :) Cool compass too :)

Lovely and interesting walk about danno50 danno50 - darn god thing you took a moment to post your SAK.
Next time, climb right up there on that high table and show us some Welsh blade action. :)

Looking forward to seeing more of your trip.
That table is only balanced on the small tips of three upright stones, so I don’t think so!

I would love to visit with Jack for a day and absorb some of his knowledge. However, this is mostly my wife’s holiday. She has relatives spread across southern England and Wales and has a tight schedule set up to see as many as possible. Also attending a wedding of the daughter of one of her cousins in Wales.

Yes, excellent weather for the last two days. Rainy again today.
I would have really enjoyed getting up to Leeds to visit with you, Jack.

Took the train to Aberystwyth early yesterday. Arrived in time to spend the long weekend with tens of thousand other vacationers. Poor planning on our part.

Did quite a bit of walking, mostly around town. We did climb to the top of Constitution Hill.

Bought this little SAK to carry in my watch pocket. On sale and very reasonable. Watched a cop in Brighton leap out of his car, run across the road and knock a fellow off his bike, and mash him into the pavement, all the while hollering at him to give up his knife. After that I put the larger SAK that John generously provided back into the go bag in my pack, to be pulled out only when needed. Being a fairly respectable looking older fellow I imagine I would not have the same trouble?

Don’t forget the museum in the tourist office, the chip shop near the pier is where the seagulls attacked me. 🫣

The kids learned about beavers recently, so they’ve been asking to go see some. Of course I had to bring along an appropriate pocket knife for this adventure!

We did see some sign of beavers, stripped bark and a few stumps. Unfortunately, we didn’t spot one of the critters firsthand…

Saw plenty of mallards though, and a few chicks.

And ended our walk at a nice turnaround point with an ideal stump for a last photo-op.

Even though we didn’t find what we set out to, it was still a nice little walk. Hope you all had an equally nice Monday.

Two days ago in Aberystwyth, just a short 3 mile or so walk. But quite a bit of elevation change.View attachment 2172685View attachment 2172686View attachment 2172687View attachment 2172688Heeding a warning from John, we definitely did not sit in the open to eat fish and chips.
I love that area of Wales I found a place near my digs there where I could get fresh Welsh cakes and a good coffee for breakfast.
I have them in England as well but not as nice.

Have you tried Bara brith? yet its delicious.

Thanks Dan, maybe we can meet up another time my friend :) I'm enjoying your photos (and the others here) :) Just about to head to the airport for my own jollies! :D
Have a great trip, Jack!! Read your posts in the Guardian thread about a lot being closed.:(

My wife being an archaeologist, we have been visiting as many old sites as possible. Near Holyhead we visited the remains of an Iron Age village. Very interesting.50B44075-6739-484A-BBFB-B26EDF58E3C6.jpegthere were about a dozen of these but remains that I could find. We also visited the remains of a Neolithic burial chamber near Holyhead.

I'd sit on your fingers for that snack Dan. :) All my favorites. Thank you very much that I am not allergic to nuts. They are a staple in my diet and my enjoyment.

Great photos, as always my Brother.

Today I went on a little late afternoon jaunt and came across some pretty spring offerings.

Always worth a bog stop to see how the Skunk Cabbage is doing. These are full head cabbages now. You can see how they have pushed out of the eggplant colored early growth.

Here is a HOBBLE BUSH in bloom ~ Those berries will be edible in the fall after they are withered.

And this little fiddlehead is just staring to reach for the sky. Too young for me to ID the kind of fern it will be. My wife would know but I was solo on this outing.

Always something delightful to see ...

Great walk and follow up post Ray 😊
I do wish I knew more about plant and tree identification when out on walks.

I downloaded an app once that was supposed to help you identify them however it was not very good.

How much longer in the life cycle of that skunk cabbage?
Do they wither and die come summer?

I read a bit about them and when it comes to being edible there is everything from they are fatal and “don’t touch them “ to it tastes great in soups and stews 😬

How do hobble bush berries taste?

Great knife 👍😎
You did a superb job 👍
