Photos A Walk in Nature

No time for walking today, but I did manage to drop off some of my recent walking sticks at the parking area for a nearby trail network:

The Fieldmaster did come back home with me, though…

Those are very cool.👍

Spent about 3 hours this morning ambling about some local trails I have posted about here before. Found a stick of course :

This rock looked like a good place to take pictures:

I very gracefully and entirely intentionally slid a few feet of the decent down through the deep loose leaves on my posterior…

Managed to get a couple of nice pictures there:

Lots of signs of beaver activity. Must have been 100ft above river level - I didn’t realize beavers were such good climbers.

From a different rock - I’m pretty sure you all have seen this vista before:

A little handout for our loyal winter friends. Pictured is my Case Mini Copperlock.
Amazing pics ! A blessing to live in such espectacular natural surroundings.
Loved the pic with you little winter friend :cool: What type of bird is it ?

Thanks for the kind word RayseM RayseM & J Just Tom. :) All is well in my neck of the woods

A couple days ago my wife, youngest daughter and I went on a lovely winter walk to a forest we had never walked on in our 20 + years of living in the area.
Beautiful forest, trails and red pines !

About 3 weeks ago, before the arrival of the "white stuff" :) my wife, daughter and I went on a walk to the bird sanctuary.
Chickadees were out in force and very hungry !

What made the day extra especial is that an unexpected visitor suddenly perched on my open hand.
I barely had enough time to snap a couple pics.

Anyone know type of bird is it ?

The chickadees, of course, were up to their usual antics :)

Search for the free “Merlin” bird ID app from Cornell Labs. It can ID birds from sound or image. You may have to download the database for your region of North America.

It’s also a lot of fun to just turn on the record mode when you are outdoors, then look for the birds the app tells you it hears.

Fun with the feathered friends

I believe you were visited by a WHITE BREASTED NUTHATCH. Easier to ID from a side view then the full on frontal. Did the rest of it look like this?

Gracias !!! ☺️

Yeap, its a White-breasted Nuthatch 👍😎

I downloaded the Merlin app and made a free account for some extra features.

A cool feature is to listen to the bird calls and hear their differences from region to region.
My daughter has perfect pitch so I had her listen to the chickadees.
Altough not perfectly in tune, in one region the call is a C and a Bb note, in another they were singing a tone lower, Bb, Ab ( almost G )

I'm hoping to see a GOLDEN EAGLE in Maine flying over our water ways. I know they are here but not yet seen by me.
My extent of “perfect pitch” will be to throw a ball or stone up to the GE and see if it tries to catch it. 😁

Very very cool to be able to distinguish such subtle differences in vocalizations. What a gift - the daughter and her sensitive hearing. 🥰

Meanwhile - here is a soaring Albatross by Lorien Lorien - closest I might ever get to seeing that bird.

Fingers crossed you get to see one soon Ray🤞

I am proud of my girl :)
She studied violin and piano since a very young age. We soon noticed she was able to name the notes just by hearing. Since then, she develop a habit a humming every single beep, ding, alarm etc and figuring the notes lol
She leaves in two weeks for college and we will truly be empty nesters :(
She will study education ( high school teacher ) to teach English and Music.

Nice one Ray, I have seen it in a few of your posts, no doubt a favorite of yours.

THE ICE TRAILS ARE OPEN 😊

Take care Dan, take care...
I remember you had a hard fall once.
My advice at the time remains relevant I believe.

Dan.
Gracias Dan!
I appreciate your concern.
That concussion and the subsequent memory loss as to the events before and after the fall was certainly no fun.
I fell while skating on my Nordic skates. When skating, I always wear a helmet but for some reason I forgot to bring it that day which proved to be a costly oversight.

The Kicksleds are safer overall. A fun alternative to skating as I get older :)
I do wear spiky shoes to grip the ice.

Ice trails and the family home for Christmas - my favorite time of year - for DAN 😁
Though the boating season is exceptional too. Our Brother CelloDan CelloDan lives life large.
Gracias Ray :)

Back at the end of August I posted this pic of the whole family together on a walk just before our oldest left for college.

Christmas Day walk about.

A bit of snow all about - and from the upper drooping boughs but not very cold, only about 24° F ~

This knife was on my left hip (and the one on the ice in the post above was in my coin pocket) just to keep the post relative. ;)
