Photos A Walk in Nature

Last edited:
Wel I wasn't exactly out in "nature", more like stuck in urban sprawl... but I had to take a picture of this tree for you all.
I drove by it and had to turn around and snap a picture of it, it's the coolest tree I think I ever saw. Sorry about the dirty windshield.

We made it to camp 🏕
Sitting by the campfire now after a long day.
A bit of anxiety trying to find the island but thanks to GPS technology here we are :)

The womenfolk, 3 of them LOL do not pack light. Somehow all this fitted in 2 kayaks and “Esperanza “
I thought our waterline was much higher than usual lol

I had to carry most of it to a higher elevation to our campsite… I will sleep well tonight lol

Looks like a gorgeous place to spend some time ... thanks for sharing!

A beautiful child L Londinium Armoury - looks wiser than his years and happy with life. Very cool to see such bright eyes and friendly smile.

CelloDan CelloDan - I had to look up "mate". You have me intrigued. Never heard of it but I like the idea and especially compelled by the specialized vessel and straw. Somehow it just seems very cool (though hot - not boiling) :) Shall I assume it tastes good too? 😋

We have been away this past week too and now home enjoying our local trails. Here are some photos.

The dune shack is a favorite place to visit -
it's that little gray wall you see at the horizon to the right of center. Off grid and as the sands have shifted over the years getting more and more difficult to reach - read - more remote! It is a special place indeed.

What a difference the years make. This old place is getting tired. Wind and sand take their toll but it is getting more and more difficult to get materials out there to keep it in solid condition. Still is a great shelter but, my oh my, it lives in a harsh environment. Those sand fences are constantly bent over and scattered. The extruded iron pipes that hold the fence can be blown over at 90° in a good storm!

I didn't carry a TRADITIONAL so I can't show knife photos but I think this old tool qualifies ~

OK - 'nuff for now. I'll save the local stuff for later posts.
Thank-you, he's an amazing boy, very intelligent and kind hearted.

Boker Barlow in an English forest
Out in the forest today with a few traditionals.

Me and my 4 year old son in the forest. Antique electricians knife from the 1920s

1920s Electricians knife by a lake south east England.
Solingen Boker Barlow, tree brand on a tree
Cool place, cool knives, cool wizard, but the photo of your son takes first prize!🏆
😎👍

Very unique, any idea what kind of tree that is John?🤔

I once ran away from home to go and live on a Canadian island! :D

A great way to spend the day my friend ! :)

I have been told it is an acquired taste. I would not know since I've been drinking it all my life. In fact they say that upwards of 90 % of Argentinians and Uruguayans drink it daily. There is a bit of a ritual around it as it is usually shared with the family and/or friends. I drank it alone for many years until one day my Cuban wife tried it and now she can not go without it , same thing with my brothers in law from different nationalities ( American, El Salvador, Canadian, Curacao ) , they all became " addicted" LOL

There is a bit of an art to make it so it tastes smooth and not too bitter. Common issues are the straw plugin up and too bitter infusion. Water temp is crucial too.

I am quite good at making it the traditional way but I recently fount out an almost foolproof way to prepare using this "Mate gourd" and "bombilla" that they sell on Amazon. Very easy to use, even my Cuban wife can prepare it now 😁

Traditional set up and the "modern traditional" way 😀

In recent years it has taken north America by storm with all kinds of outlandish health benefits claims.
I do find it a good "tonic", loaded with antioxidants and it does not make me "jittery" like coffee does.
As far of the rest of the miraculous health claims I take them with a HUGE grain of 🧂

We spotted a real Wizard in the forest
He has a magic staff which we all know counts as 3 knives. This is normal spotting a wizard when in the forest in England.
You never know what you're going to spot in an English forest! :D I had a staff AND 3 knives when I went out to the forest on Saturday! :D ;)

That's a nice one you have there. I'll be going up Snowdonia mountain next month, I think I might have to grab a decent stick myself over the next couple of weeks.
Thank you :) Have a great time on Snowdon :) I find a stick a big help. As you know, an awful lot of ash trees are having to be cut down here, and that staff is made from one of the young ones that was cleared. I have just picked up another couple this evening, and my neighbour, who became interested when he saw me sanding the one I am currently working on, in my garden yesterday, picked up four, for him and his kids. It might be worth seeing what you can find

Looks like sooooo much fun Dan! 😎👍
Thanks Todd, it was good to get out and get active out in nature for a couple days. Detox for the soul :)

You are blessed Dan!

Thank you James. I am indeed blessed and pray that God will protect and guide our girls as they grow. Out oldest one is leaving next week for almost two months as she will be working as a counsellor at a summer camp about 7 hours drive from us.
I dread the inevitable "empty nest" feeling that looms a bit closer at this stage. My wife keeps telling me to live in the present and enjoy each and all stages of life :)

Thanks Ray :)
If you ever get to try Mate don't be shy and let me know what your first impression was 😀 … it's potent stuff LOL

This one was taken at the Tidioute overlook.

So cool , I know that must be a very special knife.

Very cool my friend

I am trying to guess in which pocket the lambsfoot wizard carries his special HHB … but there is too many :)
I'll play and say it's in the left top vest pocket … yes ?
