Photos A Walk in Nature

Only just come across these fine pix. Your dog has no fears of the chilly waters of the Lochs and Burns

Oddly enough, Highland Cattle are quite a recent introduction here, odd because of our extreme climate! At first, people were mystified by them, even thinking they were Yaks. There's a large herd not far from where I live and they've adapted very well, they're out all year round, saw them in -26C last winter and they weren't bothered, the farmer has water tanks for them heated by electricity to keep it ice free. The meat is excellent and I believe the dairy yield although lower than other breeds is rich.

Bet your dog enjoys a bit of Highland Cattle if she gets the chance :D My wee Tabbycat does!

Regards, Will
I was actually surprised that she went in, but it is still fairly mild here. She does love splashing about in the water but she swims like a brick!
Can't beat some highland beef, great flavour. Ellie would love it but she'll have to wait for the scraps;) I don't think I have ever tried any dairy so will have to look for some.
I knew the cattle were hardy but that does sound rather chilly. 🥶

Excellent... You are a steward of the land.

Cool pics blade  !
You are fortunate to live so close to nature up in northern Ontario ... even if its so cold in winter 🥶 lol
I live in eastern Ontario, by the US border so it does not get as cold ... but hey I am originally from South America so it still counts lol
I decided many years ago to just " embrace winter" ha ha 🤣

Thanks for the kind words! You may not believe this but... I used to play cello too! Now I stick to the electric bass. I'm originally from Toronto and I have a sister in Belleville. I was born in 1967 same as the video below. "A place to live, a place to grow. Ontari-ari-ario!".

You are my hero,I struggle a lot nowadays.

The simple things like the pole at the bridge to pull yourself up help me enormously and seats are my saviour.

I have a mental map of seats around my town so I can take a break.

All I can say is well done and I hope your local folk appreciate all you do.

I appreciate a good sitting spot on the walking trails too. Glad to qualify as a "hero" to someone. :) Thanks. I'm guessing the trail users appreciate the solid bridges, at least but as the Trail Manager and my wife (and you BF folks on this thread) are the only ones who know about my stealth stewardship, I can only hope.

I cant make it out?

I was hoping not to need to mark up the photos with arrows. ;) Right above the rectangular lit up rock near center in the upper photo you need to look closely but there is a deer's butt there to the right. Follow the body to the head left and then go more to the far left in the photo and maybe discern the deer face lit up by the sun. I think once you get an orientation to the top of the ledge these deer will appear. The close up of the 2nd photo only shows a blurry doe form sitting on the ledge head left to butt right.

Here is my tamer edge of a small city outside bit today, fine tuning my stove system.

So I dont scratch the non stick I smoothed down a wooden spoon, supposedly from an artisan isn't everyone nowadays?

I tried to drill a hole and split the end so its now shortened,I did it to 2 spoons, but it fits better in the carry kit and is a better length for this use,

All good quality of life stuff Johnnythefox Johnnythefox . You are an inspiration

I have watched this polypore growing since it was a kid
"Wow Ray, I did not know they grew so slowly. That's really neat, the fact that you have been watching it since childhood."

Hi Dan - please understand - since the polypore was a kid - not since I was a kid. 🤭 In other words about 3 years. It was so cute when it was just a blob. :)

After 20 years living in a first floor flat I love being able to get out into my small garden even in the winter, food tastes better outside.

Hey Johnny, yerba mate is a great drink for outside :)
If we go for a picnic and forget any of the implements to make it there is great anguish amongst us :D

That concludes the tour. I'll occasionally post more of these trail photos. Always worth a share. Enjoy and thanks for your interest.

Thanks for sharing Ray !!!

😁😁😁 ... Oh man, lol , thanks for the laugh Ray.
This will haunt me for a while in Porchemberg , so funny, luckily I was not drinking mate at the moment otherwise the monitor screen would have tasted it 😂

That's cool, blade, I love the cello. Took it up as an adult to sort of lead by example to our kids. We homeschooled them and made music a central focus of their education.
I born not much later, the year man landed on the moon :) , oh btw, I hope you are not a Maple Leafs fun 😁

Few pics from my hike yesterday. Hope everyone is having a great weekend

Great pics Jacks ! Nice waterfall shot and river vistas.
I think we should make that lamb the official mascot of the Guardians

Yesterday on our walk I noticed that the trail volunteers had been busy at work. Benches, feeders, a tree planted in memory of someone that loved this trails.

Tina undoubtedly loved this trails. The sign reads after her name:

"Into the forest
I go
to lose my mind
and
find my soul"

Thanks for the tip I will see if I can find some in the UK,I bought some quality Assam tea today and just had a great cuppa.

Beautiful pics Tom :)
I am intrigued about this part of the canal as it obviously looks like its not used anymore.
Thanks, Dan!
The canal ceased commercial operations in 1924, when a flood caused major damage. It already faced strong competition from railroads, and the flood finished it off. It has been a national park since 1938. Only very short sections now have water in them, and I believe there are only a few remaining operable locks.

Edit:
It’s funny - I just noticed the Wikipedia article mentions 2 supposedly haunted places along the canal. Both are right near where I have recently camped, and I have posted pictures of them here. If there were any ghosts there last time, the noise of the coyotes would have surely driven them away anyway…
