Wow and wow again,I have been thinking of coming to Scotland and seeing if I can photograph eagles (its a dream of mine).

Did you spot any wild sporran or haggis running around?😆

These woods are to the north of me,so I was in the Northwoods 😁

It was cold but lovely and sunny when I left my house as soon as I got out of my car it went in,typical.

There's a lot of wildlife in these woods I saw 2 birds, even more typical 😁

I was looking for natures colours a bit muted but all around me.

Trying out some different gear, wooden walking stick isnt as good for my unstable walking as my Leki I took it for overgrown brambles but it was so thick I couldnt get through anyway.

Gloves weren't warm enough, silly hat looked silly but kept my ears warm.

The new cannister stand is genius,my billy is perfect as is the soup, almost as good as the canned stuff I made it thick.

Biscuits from the French Ration packs,French ones are the best.
Good meals you heat in a flat tin, good drinks and sweets (the old ones used to have brandy in them).

I have had English,German,Canadian etc. all good.
MREs I hate and some other country's are poor as well,I think it was the Danish that looked and tasted like tinned dog food (maybe it was)..

I was given loads in Bosnia by the Canadian soldiers after I helped them out, same with the French 2 REP gave me loads.
I took supplies into Tomislavgrad for them including copious amounts of booze for Bastille day,I was invited to the party but had to get back it was going to get very messy I am sure..

Then coffee with a biscuit selection, bourbon, rich tea and digestive, moral boosters the lot of them.

Sit map is great, fits in my jacket pocket with ease.

As it was a no nonsense day I took my 01 orange Sodbuster a no nonsense knife,I tried dropping it on the floor several times its easy to find.

Not today Johnny, they only come out on special days like St Andrews Day, this coming Tuesday 😉
Plenty of raptors about these parts but for eagles you would need to go further north.
Sea eagle populations are increasing on the islands of the west coast - Mull & Raasay.

I am aware the wardens have to keep some sightings secret,so I would have to do some research.
What time is it getting dark at the moment?

Where is this?
Johnny:
The first couple of pictures are at a section of the C&O canal known as Wide Water, about 13 miles out from Washington, DC. The others were taken along the Billygoat Trail, which runs over some rocks between the canal at Wide Water and the Potomac River just downstream from Great Falls. The environment and vegetation here is very different from the surrounding areas due to the bare scoured bedrock of the Potomac Gorge. I took this picture on my walk back, less than a mile from the others, and it is more typical of the area:

I traced my route in red for you on this map. You can see from the scale it was a pretty short walk, despite doubling back on myself for a mile or so:

The park is about 10 miles from my house, and I ride my bike there fairly regularly in warmer weather.

Thanks for the info,it looks a great place to explore or just get away from it all.

It is a nice spot, but it can get a little crowded on nice weekends. It was chilly this morning so the place was pretty empty.
Same here,I have found the weekends to be crowded more so since lockdown.
As people seem to have found a world away from the iphone and Xbox they didnt know existed.😅

Nothing to exciting today but I was out and about, dont expect views of the Hanging gardens of Babylon or herds of wildebeest.

The snow melted quick which was a disappointment, but it was still down in places.

Which was how I was able to view these bird tracks, any idea what bird?

it must have been quite big you can see where two of them met up if you look close.

If that was around here and they were really big, I would say wild turkey, but I don’t think you have those.

I feel I can say with absolute authority that it is not a duck… :D
There was a strange thing going on with the ducks today,I think the farmer has game birds 🐦
They had gathered in increasing number at the top of the hill well away from their pond and where calling each other,it felt weird.

Lunch was out in the wilds of central England on my walk today as I continued to fine tune my equipment (or faff around as most would say).

I treated myself to a meal from a French ration pack, with plain biscuits, afters was a cup of coffee a French nougat bar and biscuits from the Sardinian café (they are delicious).

You heat the meal in its tin, I managed to burn the lower layer again today, but the rest of it was tasty and I started to feel warmer as I ate (I will remove the lid totally next time and use a pan grip).

Back to using the old Leki pole its 100 times better than my wooden self made pole,I felt far more stable walking.

Different gloves and cap where warmer,I tried some different layers which worked as well,(I walk so slow I never build up any heat).

I learnt something the other day I had no idea cashmere wool was 10 times better than Merino for warmth (which I had been wearing).

As I found a £50 voucher a few days ago that my mum had given me years ago so I ordered a cashmere jumper in the sale.

New woollen sit mat is superb as is my wind break.

I made it last night from a cornflake box and tin foil, pity I didn't have extra strong foil but no matter.

Its now waterproof, wont burn and I made it so it folds up in the pocket inside my rucksack nice and neat.

It will double as a signal mirror if I have to guide a rescue helicopter in 😂

I am Carrying a SAK all the time outdoors now along with another folder.

As I was watching a Para, marine, recon, bouncer at mothercare, special forces type chap on youtube the other day.

He went to open his ration tin and the ring pull snapped, he didnt have any other tools with him so was trying to open the tin with some massive fix blade all for the sake of a small can opener or SAK.

Top tip US pilots emergency hip flasks are kidney shaped hold 1/2 litre and will fit an inside pocket keeping the water from freezing in the cold.

Easy to fit in side pockets of bags as well, I have 4 of them they are so useful.
