Photos A Walk in Nature

Jan 24th, 2022 @ 8:30 am : -30 C

No walks in nature today. Time to hibernate :)

However here is nature at the microscopic level which will keep me busy today :)

Kefir and sourdough cultures are complex ecosystems involving yeast and bacteria.

Very interesting Dan, I always thought a kefir was something you wore around your neck! :D ;)

What about the chickadees

Somehow they will manage!

I was thinking about them this past few days of extreme cold.
I suspect many of them don't make it :(
Their caloric needs go through the roof in cold weather
Here is video were they swarmed us and it was nowhere near as cold on that day.

Temps are climbing today which is good. -16 C now , we may actually be able to go out for some "really fresh " air :D

In the meantime, nature is doing its thing on my sourdough :cool:

Pretty clever Dan - might have been faster and even better tracking on a pair of narrower XC skis. Still - ya dun good with that rig.
Your video is funny and that's worth a few points.

DIY Kick sled using a pair of old downhill skis 🤪

I took my new toy for a spin today ( literally ) :p

We had some fun however the contraption is rather difficult to control and keep in a straight line ... but it got us out the house :)

All well and good, my friend, but no cup holders? Do you expect us to live like animals?

Thanks Ray :), we did have fun and it felt so good to get out of the house and do a bit of exercise.
I saw this idea on my internet travels but there was no mention about how it had performed.
The skis I got them for almost nothing on Kijiji ( similar to Craigslist ) May try the narrower skis as you suggested sometime.
Our girls got a good laugh too at our expense when I showed them the video and wondered if I was for real going to post it on "the knife forum " 😀

😄
Thanks for the suggestion. I will include it in version 2.0 !
I am also thinking I could install a chainsaw right in the middle at the front. I would weld metal scoops on the chain to bite into the snow and propel me with no effort on my part 😲😬😜

PS : I should stop watching The Red Green show now 😅

The most enjoyable and difficult walk today.
Yesterday was sunny and shades, today was driving wind and rain,I LOVED it.

It started with an excellent cappuccino while I waited for the bus which I wasn’t allowed to drink on the slippery patio as it was to dangerous 😂
What more dangerous than people shooting and dropping mortars around me? FFS you couldn’t make it up 🤣🤣🤣
I took the bus north out of Newquay and very slowly walked back.

The first bit was the best it was wild, desolate, empty and straight over the cliffs if you weren’t careful,I was and took none of the shortcuts near the edge.

Leaning into the wind my strides followed behind me.
I love those merino gloves and cap, even when wet they where warm and comfy.

Took my 1977 soldier in anticipation of the salty sea spray.

I wanted to go all the way down those steps but knew I wouldn’t get back up again,I was on my last legs.
Instead I had a sit down on a wet seat and had a delicious Heinz tomato packet soup.
The edge of the cliffs was very close here dangerous for dogs and children I thought.

Watching the birds swoop and dive effortlessly almost as if the where playing was a joy to watch.

Great pictures Johnnythefox Johnnythefox !
The cliffs brought memories of our trip to Prince Edward Island in 2019
It was then that I started taking pictures with my pocket knives to share on the Porch while out on walks :)

All along the watchtower (sink hole, violent winds, steep descents).

It was extremely hard for me today, everyone overtook me and I left the area alone.

very scared going down in case I ended up in hospital again.

The wind pinched my pocket and blew my map away, lesson learnt again.😆

I went 9 to 4 to 9.

I had planned 9 to 5 to 9 but just ran out of battery power 😂

But I enjoyed it very much.
