The good ol' US of A shore is right across the St Lawrence.
I wonder if I can swim across it 🤔😁

Out on the trail behind our church, which a student of mine cleared (with help) for his Eagle Scout project. He designed and made the two benches himself.

Looks like a great day.

I like the lilac and gorse blooming time.
What are those white trees on the road side ? They look like birches but are not the common european ones.

Dan.
Thanks a lot Dan, we were also admiring them. Silver birch is commonly planted here, which is what I think they are

I don't think so, the bark of the common european birch (Betula pendula) isn't that white and slick. I wonder if the ones you pictured wouldn't rather be Himalayan birches (Betula utilis). Amazing trees.

Yes, perhaps Dan :) I probably know the bloke who planted them, so I'll ask him the next time I see him. He used to live a few doors down from me, but he's moved now 👍

Thanks you, Jack. I would love to join you for a walk and a few pints someday.

I cycled out to Toot Baldon using bridleways as much as possible.
There I sat on the church bench with glorious views over the fields to read my book.

Sadly in the church is a memorial to Paras and RAF staff who lost there life in a aircraft crash many years ago.
Paras do there training and first jumps in this area.

Looking at the amount of people who died in WW1 another memorial in the church is also very sad,its more a hamlet than a village, not even a shop.
A high price was paid here.

I met Albert Darlington last year he wasnt even 16 when he blagged his way into the Army and not even 18 when he landed in Italy.
The book is very raw and very honest,I wont judge him (some might if they read it) its of its time,he was a tough little blighter doing his bit.
It made me laugh out loud at times as I fully understood some of those situations (somethings never change in the army) having served 9 years in the British Army myself.

Its a book I would recommend.

Its not written in the bragging look at me a tough guy manner of some books I've read with exaggerated contacts/actions/heroics etc. like Bravo two zero for example.

I took some nice knife pics they show if you click the link,no idea why it keeps happening.
