Photos A Walk in Nature

Went out for a little hiking and fishing this morning...

But it was still a little cold in the mountains, so the fish were not active...

But it was still amazing to get up in the fresh air, stretch the legs, and enjoy the outdoors...
I was just admiring your pics in the Guardians thread John, I'm glad you were able to get out for the day :)

Super photos John, looks like a great time. Glad you’re enjoying your time off. 😎👍

Thank you, Jack. :)
Because of last year's fires, the campgrounds were closed.
It was very quiet and the whole area was very clean.
I guess every cloud has a silver lining John  I'm always particularly disgusted by those who have some, apparent, appreciation of the outdoors, but who sully them with their litter and filth

It disgusts me too, Jack.
It's selfishness and it's an epidemic these days.
As long as they get to enjoy themselves they don't care who or what suffers.

Yes, bad enough the way things are in the city, but there's so much of it out in the countryside. I've come across litter in some of the remotest places, where they could only have been dropped by a hiker or climber. I don't know why I am surprised really considering the cess-pit mountaineers have made of Everest :(

A walk along the tidal estuary today. Was a just perfect spring day - in the 60° F, with the peepers talking the entire time BUT no bugs other than one rogue tick that tried but failed to hitch a ride home.

Hey CelloDan CelloDan - I hope you and Diana are doing well and she is strong enough to be outside this weekend - maybe not walking too far but at the least sitting in the sun. Be well - ALL!

Hey CelloDan CelloDan - I hope you and Diana are doing well and she is strong enough to be outside this weekend - maybe not walking too far but at the least sitting in the sun. Be well - ALL!

Hola mi amigo, thank you for the well wishes my friend !
Nice pic and very nice knife !

Diana is pacing herself as she is feeling now a bit fatigued due to the side effects of her first chemo treatment last Tuesday that are now beginning to show.
Hoping that this weekend she'll begin to feel more like her normal self as her body recovers from this first round. Other than feeling tired and "under the weather" she has not had other symptoms so far. They told us that she may experience increased side effects on the second and subsequent rounds but that every patient is and reacts differently.
We bought a juicer and our daughters have been busy making her nutritious vegetable/fruit juices which she really enjoys.

She have been dreaming, ever since my solo adventures on Esperanza last year, to join me in some of them on the Rideau but with better accommodations and comforts than what Esperanza can provide ☺️.

We were seriously considering some sort of very small houseboat or "shanty boat" however I don't have the skills or space to build us one or the funds to buy one at his time.

Then we realized that a small sailboat could very well serve that purpose as well for short and quick weekend getaways of a night or two. The locks have amenities such as bathrooms, picnic tables etc so all we needed was a cozy place to sleep at night without the hassle of setting up a tent, carrying stuff back and forth from the boat etc.
We could easily just motor at hull speed and use it as our mini cruiser. I could also sailed it solo here at home on the Saint Lawrence every now and then and get my "sailing" fix so to speak.

We are feeling excited because yesterday I was able to bring home a small, trailerable sailboat in great condition that will serve that purpose.
We hope to go be able to go together every now and then this summer on weekends in between treatments when she is up to it.
Outdoor activities open up here in Canada on Victoria Day weekend in about a month. We hope to go together if she is up to it.

Here is our yet unnamed/not yet christened new addition the flotilla :)

Good to hear from you Dan. I hope Diana continues to do ok 🙏
I'm mostly ignorant about sailboats. Does that have some type of retractable keel?

Thank you Mike !!!
Yes, the keel swings up . With the keel up this boat has a very shallow draft allowing you to go up on a beach and/or reach places that other sailboats would not be able to do so.

Gunkholing they call it :)

Thanks for the update Dan, dreaming of a trip like that together may just be the best medicine of all. That beautiful boat is a great start. We’ll continue to keep Diana and your entire family in out thoughts and prayers. 😊

Very cool Dan. I looked at the Potter 19 you had mentioned and scanned the for sale adds but those are pricey day sailors and not to be found any closer than California or Florida. Glad you found this new craft. I was thinking that a good name might be Cello's Hope - yes you already have your Esperanza but Hope by any other name ... 🥰 Anyway, just came to mind. You 4 will certainly be inspired among you to come up with a worthy name.

Steady on Diana. All the best.
