Photos A Walk in Nature

The plastic ring inside the line guide at the tip of the rod fell out, leaving sharp-edged metal. Would definitely have cut the line if I tried to reel in any decent-sized fish.

It worked!

At about 18” it wasn’t as big as my last one, so instead of filleting it like usual I cleaned it, cut the head and fins off and skinned it, to preserve as much of the meat as possible. Turned out to be plenty for 2.

Used this other red plastic handled knife to skin the catfish. The cheap tackle box knife wasn’t sharp enough.

Dinner:

River, and old canal spillway

What a great fix, good thinking, I guess it paid off! 😎👍

Hope you all aren't walking in nature if it's 100 °+ F /40°+ C - Jack Black Jack Black

Take care out there.

Thanks for thinking of me Ray :) Rising to 104F today, apparently, record-breaking temperature here  I'm fine thanks, (seen so many of these records get broken over the years) :) Don't think I'll be going out hiking today though! :D

Great post Tom 👍… nature, knives, resourcefulness and a tasty meal 🎣
I would invite myself anytime to have some “very fresh” fish by the river shore with you my friend 😊

From our hike today. AllTrails listed it as Mesa Butte, but just before we got to the last climb, the signs said Mesa Grind. They weren't kidding, and my knees are asking me if that was really necessary ;)

Carries for the day were my pair of Gary Wines knives. A Lambsfoot and Bushcrafter.

It was a hot one out there today, but we were out to have a good time regardless. Many breaks in shady patches along the route.

The wildflowers were pretty amazing!

As mentioned it was pretty hot, but the skies were clear making for some great views

And speaking of Mesa Grind, a few "Are we there yets?" were heard :)

Almost to the top!

The view at the top was worth the slog :)

Even a picnic table to get a rest and eat lunch before the trek back down.

And while we were eating, we got a visit from a friendly group! Had to keep a close watch on my sandwich and water bottle :)

Stunning photos Mike :)

Some brilliant,inspirational photos above.

I decided at the last minute to go for a little cycle in nature at 20.00 hrs.

As soon as I got the bike out it started to rain and the wind blew like a freight train.

I haven't been on the bike for over a month I really enjoyed it.

On the way to the grassy areas on the outskirts of town I came across a very good graffiti artist at the underpass.

I saw ducks swimming in a big family group in perfect formation.

I did not expect a road flooded quite deep and full wiEthan.

Then I came across some cattle been let out to feed near the path, pretty sure they aren't Texas longhorns 😆

It was nice and cool out,so glad I took a soft shell,my house felt like an oven on my return.

very enjoyable, even if it wasn't very dramatic.

Very nice jaunt! I love it!

I’m trying to decide what to take with me on my next bike-camping trip. The saw is too handy and lightweight to leave behind. The Okapi is in my right front pocket pretty much always, and though not particularly slicey does everything I need except open cans (well, it could…), so that is a given. The fish knife will be in the little waterproof box I use for fishing tackle. The green Mikov Zero linerlock went on the last couple of trips, but I could switch that for the Victorinox Fieldmaster, the “The Ideal” Camper, or the faux-stag Mikov Fixir lockback.

Of course I could try to get 3 trips in this year, and rotate…

Edit:
I could just put a P-38 can opener on my keyring and not need another knife, but where’s the fun in that?
