Terrible

I tried 3 times-rosewood-horn and black wood. i really wanted to give them a fair chance, however, for the examples of what i received for the money spent, i don't think i could sell them without a huge loss. unfortunately they all look like whom ever works there simply doesn't give a shit. Really to bad

Just received my first A. Wright knife directly from Sheffield yesterday. Here are my impressions. Nice, stout pull. Not a nail breaker by any means, I'd rate it about a 7. Snaps open and closed with authority. No blade play. Spring is flush in both positions. Blade sits off-center nearly touching the liner. Minor spring/liner gaps. Grind is uneven and it's not sharp (easy fix). Overall I'm impressed with it at the price. As a work knife I'd rather have this than most current production Case knives I've handled. Maybe this is a better than average example, but I intend to order another. I'll sharpen it up and put it to work next week.

Mate, once you get them sharp they are good work knives, nice scales by the way, i really like them.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

This thread is making me a little nervous. I have a stag Senator, stag spear point pocket knife, and a rosewood spear point pocket knife coming.

Great looking Lambsfoot! That’s the first Left Handed Lambsfoot I’ve seen. I knew that some manufacturers make them but they’re not that common here! You need to post that and become an official member in the Guardians of the Lambsfoot thread! I know for a fact you’ll get a warm reception there! :)

Well that's a good cross-section and it ought to be a good opportunity to make judgements. You might well be pleasantly surprised. Tell us what you think, we can only arrive at a balanced opinion of these knives by having varied input; it's no use if hordes of people outdo each other with horror stories; or conversely if fans will hear no ill;) We need to hear it all and this applies to all knife brands too.

You're probably more confused than ever by now.:confused::confused:o_Oo_Oo_O:D:thumbsup:
No, this was really useful - thank you to everyone who replied!

It actually feels like there is fairly wide agreement about this maker - what they do well, what issues they seem to consistently have. The disagreements stem from differing tolerances for construction problems. One person's "junk" is another person's "good solid user".

Thanks again,

-Tyson

GeofS GeofS - Have you received your knives yet?
Yes, I did...

Very solid knives. As others have said, they are workers and lack a certain refinement. All three came with very hard pulls. I’ve been working on that. Thick black grease has been slathered on every pivot, I am also working on cleaning that. The top lamb foot is the nicest of the bunch. The middle stag scales are extremely uneven, one side is pretty thick and the other is thin. The rosewood is nice enough, doesn’t stand out. Took about a month and a half to get to me and have one more stag coming.

Here’s another shot of the top knife...

Nice lambsfoot stag, and they can have very hard pulls, you will fix that issue. If i may give you some advise, i have quite a few Wright's, just sitting on the computer looking at 3 more i am going to buy when your post came through, with the rosewood that you think looks a bit plain, you can apply some wax and buff it up if you like. The difference will be so obvious, but it is up to you. Looking at the photo you have posted, it has some fantastic markings, and a wax, buff and polish will bring out all that character that is already there, it is up to you. Enjoy your knives and thanks for posting.

Very nice indeed. The Senator looks especially nice. The Rosewood covers will darken with use. Keep us informed as they break in with use.

I have a Barlow and a lambsfoot, they are both fine knives I carry the lambsfoot daily.
