Guys,

The reason we shut down the RAT survival contest is due to liability issues. Too many folks wanting rulings on medical kits, etc. and if something should happen to them then we could be held liable since they "followed our rules." I thought it would be a lot simpler than this to just do a quick 3-day trip with minimal gear but obviously I wasn't thinking. After giving this a lot of thought and after all the detailed questions and desire for rule changes and additions that started to be posted on such a simple idea, I thought it best to just pull the plug.

With that said, we are always looking for personal survival trips, stories and photos to add to our web site and to write about, so if any of you come up with something on your own and do it, let us know about it!

thanks,

Jeff

No matter how much it sucks to be a wet blanket, Jeff, you made a brilliant business decision this morning.

But you know that, right? ;)

I'm still gonna go forward with the original rules, slightly modified to include my pipe and tobacco. Just for gits and shiggles, I'm gonna try it with my Izula as my only knife.

I would like to write the story River Rat!

Can't think of many things you can't do with the Izula if you try hard enough. You can even baton a hearth board with one--I've done it myself! A longer blade just makes it easier. :D

I am extremely disappointed by this, but I understand and believe what you have done was in the best interest of your company and personal welfare.
Thanks for the opportunity to participate in a badass contest with some amazing prizes.
I have already committed to myself to make the 3 day on what was originally specified, so I am still doing the adventure. For me this was a chance to really truly learn by application, not sit by a river kicking back and relaxing. “Well maybe a little of that.:p” But really applying what I can to better my situation out there. I would love to be part of your survival classes but that would be a major misallocation of funds and Canus-Lupus would not approve!:D But the reality is this has spurred me to take on the learning of my area and its natural resources, which is more of a life insuring percentage than any knife can offer. I believe in what I have heard and seen in regards to your guy’s knives and training so if any one would like to loan me a RAT knife (I don’t care what size) i will carry that as my single edged tool. The only reason I specifically request a RAT is to prove its worth to myself as well as others.
Thank you

I understand Jeff... Sometimes things don't work out as originally thought. Kudus for the effort!

If your shot, your not dead and if your dead you dont know it. You have to admire the attitude around these parts of the e-net!:D
Lets do this!

Well, it probably wouldn't have won the competition, but I could have gotten away with making a palmetto hut, covering myself in mud to keep the skeeters off, and sit around drinking water for 3 days. . .

What's really sad about this getting flushed is the "prize pack" was everything you'd wish you'd have had when you were out with your crappy little Altoids tin. ;)

For real!
It would be the up grade of a lifetime, thats for sure. You would never hear any bitching ever from me about a shortage of gear.

I'm going to, contest or no contest.
The prizes where just a bonus.............being a very friggin' awesome bonus that is :D

I'll post my journal and some pics when I get back ;)

i was rereading your post's and
I’m sorry if any of my questioning the rules led to this decision. I just did not want to do anything wrong that could have lead to my disqualification; I wasn’t in any way trying to get an edge or anything like that. Just so you know.

I doubt it crowdog, it's about safety, I knew this would come up. If something happens to us, we could blame Jeff, but we won't do that, right? RIGHT??

All is well, dude. Not your posts that caused this.

I appreciate the spirit. Let us know how your trips turn out 'cause we're interested!

I already had my lawer ready to sue the shit out of you guy's and three of your following generations.
thank you.

Well it's a shame that the world has come to this but I understand the need to relieve RAT Cutlery of any liability. I plan to still go on a primitive trip when I get back from my hitch.

On another note, I should post up a few pics of me using my Izula while I'm slicing and dicing in Congo.
