About the contest thread

On another note, I should post up a few pics of me using my Izula while I'm slicing and dicing in Congo.

You absolutely should. I almost got to go to the Congo in 2003, but it was discovered that there was no oil there, and thus no military intervention was needed.

Well I've got a 3-4 day outing scheduled for the end of next month anyway. There will be some mods to the rules you had posted but it should be interesting enough for some of you guys. A buddy is coming along and we will be staying on a 600 acre ranch that I take care of. Dealing with the Texas heat will be the toughest thing we will deal with being we have already hit the triple digits and summer just started. Maybe Shotgunner would be interested in joining in. Whatcha think bud??

Well, this sucks. I wasn't able to do it due to working most Saturdays, and even some Sundays. Well, for the people still doing this, I hope you all post lots of pics for us to see!

For sure. I will be borrowing a camera from my brother and if no one loans me a RAT i will use what I have which is a CRKT M-16.
tons of photos and journal entrees.

what! No way! You don't have any other knives? What kind of nut are you? lol

I have 1) CRKT M-16 2) Broken CRKT 10kz tonto , that my brother decided sucked so he gave it to me. 3) Leatherman Core 4) Friskers handaxe
and one very small Swiss Army Knife that i wear around my neck (to sharpen pencils with)
oh i got some walmart kitchen knives as well. :D
I decided i needed a good knife so i did ALITTLE research and came to the conclusion that CRKT was a good company with a dependable product. well it has worked for me so far, and the company was very good in regards to replacing some clip screws for me. but all in all i learned of RAT all to late AFTER i had already purchased the CRKT, and i am realizing that alot of the stuff i do on a day to day is better suited toward a BADASS fixed blade such as the RAT:D. So now im in the same situation as my lady friend Canus Lupus wanting...saving and without. Every contest that i could use my skill and determenation to win a RAT requirers the use of a RAT to win the RAT. See my conundrum, excluding this last one that was snuffed. So we are hoping with this first 100 drawing that we might win, then i could enter the next contest and win another for the lupus or my self. All this if we are not able to buy one prior.;) so yes there is the plan.
And as for wanting one for this contest, i figured it would be a great way for me to get my hands on one to test and It could be a great testimonial for their company. Which i would more than enjoy to be, free of reimbursement. good things should be passed back to a company that gives so much to their clients in the way of knowledge and second a sound product.

hey crowdog, I got a RC3 you could borrow. It's not pretty, but still works.

Right on! Its funny that it is an R-C3 because I felt all along that in the spirit of this exercise it would be the best to use a smaller edc. something that you would have on you all the time and most likely would get stranded with. The RC-3plain edge is the very RAT im looking to get so it would be the blade i would most likely get stranded with after i obtain one. It will be great to be able to preview one myself before i get one as well. It will also be a great blade to show its abilities, due to its size it is the most likely blade for a common person to carry all day everywhere, include IZULA in there as well.:D:D:D
Thank you

My RC3 has a slight recurve on it, it used to have serrations but had someone grind them out. If I let you borrow it, you have to use it and post pics within a month! If not, I'll send you a box of ants. :D

o I need your email.

no problem, and im going to have to use the hell out of it, if it has any left:D
Canus is a photo-nut so she can assist in making sure they are put up in a timely well done manner.

We will still offer some prizes to those who seem to do the bast in this exercise. Just understand that we cannot sanction this or make up the rules. I would suggest yall get together and do your own set of rules

I would think we should stay as close to the originals as possible.
Real simple rules:

A blade (one only), anything you can fit into an Altoids tin (standard size for the all the smart people! ), standard clothing for the season and environment, notepad and pencil, camera and extra batteries. If you need to take a tripod for self-portraits, no problem. Cell phone and/or PLB for emergencies.

1) Kit innovation.
2) Actual use of the blade and the kit's tools in the wilds.
3) The most survival tasks accomplished while in the wilds for 3 days (shelter, fire, food, etc).
4) Photo documentation and note taking of the whole trip.

One man or women in, alone as though they were thrown out of the car after work one day.
Simple.

Alright, fellas, I say we stick with the original rules. As I said before, my pipe and tobacco are going with me, as I consider them part of "clothing appropriate for the season." I will be using whatever I pack in the tin to light said pipe. Sound good? My email and IM are both riverrat1979@yahoo.com if you guys wanna discuss it and keep the forums uncluttered.

I was actually considering doing this. My overwhelming fear of supernatural beings wins though.
And don't worry Taurn, I will show crowdog how to properly use that blade before he goes out :D

Hehe thanks! I also like to stick with the original rules, with the exception of medications.
