Attention:Spinner1, thank you for sharing those pictures I looked at everyone of them, and I'm really planning on going to Alaska for my graduation present next June! Every picture I was drooling on how beautiful Alaska is, every picture is a postcard perfect. And boy I love your 3/4 8.1 Avalanche! Do you have any suggestions for a tour guide with fishing, hiking, etc. PM me please. lastly have a good trip from San Francisco to back home, will you have your firearms with you?

We are certainly having the nicest spring that I can remember in the interior of Alaska. I wish you the best on your journey,
Chuck

Thanks for the nice feedback. :p:) You'll love the trip as well as the "country". It is beautiful and interesting.

I too love my powerful "big-boy" Avalanche. It's got sooo much power when you want or need it....and I've learned to drive it so I get good gas mileage on the highway. I'm actually surprised. It also has all the toys possible...I guess that was one of the reasons I bought it. -That and the fact I was traveling X-country with a 24' travel trailer...

No firearms on this trip...

If you remember to PM me in about 3 months I'll be done with this trip and give you contacts for fishing charter and hiking. I can even send you a tourist guide magazine telling you of my home town and what is available there. There are a lot of trails, even some that take you to a glacier...but you have to be smart about the back country in Alaska. We have BEARS, and they are not bashful.... Matter of fact my husband told me last night that we had a black bear in the "yard" yesterday....

Here is a link to the other thread where my daughter and I traveled from Finland to Alaska last summer...

Thanks Chuck. I bet you're getting to the 70's in the Fairbanks area. My husband did a job on a tugboat in Nenana couple of weeks ago and loved the weather...and the beauty of driving through the top of the world watching Mt McKinley show it's peak as he drove by (on a clear day) ;)

Well, back to Tok and the last motel. I walked in and hear the price of the room. I offered a certain amount for the night, the woman at the counter raised me by $5.00 and we made a deal. (Her honey owned the motel and she was able to deal.)

I liked the lady right from the start We had things in common, like we were both pilots and she was also a firefighter (I was one a loooong time ago when I lived in Nevada).

I invited her to come visit in the room and to share what food was in my cooler. She brought a tray full of goodies and a bottle of wine. We sat and talked better part of the evening.

I also invited Carroll, a boat builder/school teacher/mechanic, with whom I had talked before when looking at a freight canoe for Ian.

We all sat and compared notes, feasted on tidbits and enjoyed a little wine.

We went outside and there was a "dog mushing" race track across the road...

The next morning I was going to breakfast on some organic raspberries...but they were moldy except some of the ones on the top...

They were flushed....

I left the motel and continued toward British Colombia...

This is not a clear picture but I though you'd like to see the name of the road...

I humbly thank all the vets and bow my head to them....

Beautiful sky....

More black spruce...It amazes me how a five foot tree can be 30-40 years old... As crippled looking as it they are, they are beautiful in their own way....

Getting closer to the border...

050.jpg

Again blown away with the beauty of it all....:p

055.jpg

NO WONDER I LOVE TO DRIVE SO MUCH.....sigh...when you see this kind of things....

Spring has sprung here...The lovely, delicate leaves on trees are so pretty and the promise of summer is in the air...

 Imagine the post office is 7 miles off the main road...

Just barely caught this...

Close to the border the road work started...

He graciously told me it was OK to take and post his picture here... We chatted for a bit and I found out he was from North Pole...That's quite a way from home...

126.jpg

His lunch was across the road....

As I sat there I had to take this picture for you...The pole has sunk and is keeling over...

Here they come...

:eek:Gotta run again. Checkout time if 15 minutes.

I wish there was enough time to get more pictures on Photobucket and post the pictures of the "Years First Party" in Haines Junction's Bakery. It was so much fun. Food and music was good... I smiled and laughed so much my cheeks hurt...

Trying to make it to White Horse today...

See ya'...:p:):D

Great pix!!!

This reminds me of my trip from AK back to MA. Ahhh, the memories!
