After Sale Lounge

I appreciate this preorder Nathan, Jo, and the CPK crew!! You are all the best!

The EDC is the original knife that drew me to CPK, so this preorder carries extra weight.

I know that it's alot of extra, unnecessary, unneeded work for you...I know that you do it for us. Obviously, not because you have to.

I appreciate you all very much! Sorry for the extra headaches.
My first CPK was an EDC2 and I didn’t care for the swooping belly on that one, so it got sold. Then I bought a brand new HDFK for dirt cheap compared to today’s prices. It remains my favorite CPK to this day.

I have gotten burned by other makers in the past a couple of times by paying up front for knives promised to be delivered by a certain time.

I would pay full price to be on a waiting list anytime with CPK because I know that their intention is to deliver the best quality product they can as quickly as is feasible. I trust that the preorders will be delivered when they can be-period.

It really irks me that any negativity was brought to this thread after CPK has made it possible for 340 more knives to find homes. For those of us who appreciate the knives, and the CPK team- THANK YOU.

If I place myself on the outside looking in, I suppose I see some of the cause for frustration, though I don't share in it. If you take a deep dive down any of the hell holes on YouTube, Facebook, etc., they are full of comments from users who are plenty fine with bashing a maker whose knives they aren't able to immediately purchase. Social media feeds into the FOMO and instant gratification culture that plagues us these days and unfortunately, many folks lack the patience or social skills needed to integrate with a community proper and appreciate what has been built here - it's far more than just knives.

My advice to anyone who is interested in a CPK: Slow down. Pull up a chair here and get to know everyone. You won't find a better place to find deep knowledge, matchless design and manufacturing acumen, awesome camaraderie, and yes, the best knives on the planet. If a knife is your priority - cool, I guess, but you're missing out on so much more. My CPK assortment is modest but they are amongst my most treasured blades and most of that is due to my deep respect for Nathan, Jo, and their crew.

I'd give this post 2 "hearty eyed emojis" if I could!! 😍😍😍

I think the most unethical thing about my pre-orders is that it sets a precedent and people who aren't me will see this as an acceptable model when, for most people it really is not.

That sounds like I'm really full of myself, but the reality is I was a manufacturing concern before I started producing knives here and I have a machine shop with three fully automatic grinders, 7 CNC machining centers, tumblers, saws and a ton of other stuff used in the production of our work that is fully paid for and 100% my property. I'm not using pre-order money to grow or tend a loan, I'm using pre-order money to make the knives. Other than the mortgage on my house, I am 100% debt-free right now.

I'm in a position to be able to do this safely where most makers are not. It is hypocrisy for me to say "it's okay when I do it but not okay when you do it." But I guess I'm okay with the hypocrisy and you're not, which is understandable.

Guy and I are not the same. He got in over his head and didn't know the way out. Honestly I don't think there was a way out. I have far more manufacturing experience and capacity than any other custom knife maker that I know of selling knives here. So when I do something that someone else should not do, it does set a precedent which is probably not good. But the alternative is to employ a model that runs contrary to my best interests. Why would I do that?

You owe no one an explanation or apology. You operate in a Free Market, or at least as free of a market that still exists. Your skill and effort produces a good that you own and you get to choose the terms for its sale to others, at the value that you set. If someone doesn’t like the terms or the price, they have no obligation to buy, and you have no obligation to sell for any less than what you deem appropriate. Those who value your product the most will ultimately receive it.

Judging from the speed of your sales, I would say that your terms of sale and pricing structure are acceptable to the market.

Like many others, I appreciate the pre-order sales because it allows me an opportunity to buy your knives that I would otherwise miss out on.

Pre-Orders are great! Like almost everyone else, I thank the CPK crew for accommodating us. Demand is really high and I know it’s NOT going down anytime soon! I don’t see anything unethical about about a 100% deposit for a knife that only costs $300, especially given the true value is much greater. In 6-12 months this same knife may also cost a bit more to make and be priced higher as well. If I can fault CPK for anything, it’s that they should charge more!!! The CPK community is great as well - the vast majority of the time, the prices asked on secondary market here at BF are a good bit below what they could be.

Love it here!

Thanks to Nathan and the team for the pre order . I’ve tried on many of the past and haven’t scored .. including today . I have the fastest internet I can buy and I’m prepared .. just don’t get why I can’t land the Friday sales … 53 today . I ordered 2 on the preorder with customizations . Please keep this up .

Another newb question for either the CPK crew or forum members. I noticed in the sale thread people specifying things other than handle material e.g. buffed, furniture etc.

Is there anywhere I can go to see the options available and what they all look like?
The CPK encyclopedia thread.
Lots of pics and links to pics.
