Aftermarket in the Toilet?

The bit about "absorbing the financial liability of millions of illegal aliens" is nonsense, but the rest of Ken Williams' post should not be dismissed too rapidly. I don't think we'll see a complete economic meltdown anytime soon, but the problems he raises are real, and neither the Left nor the pseudo-Right has made any interesting proposal to solve the core issues. To be fair to politicians, it's largely because the American people as a whole prefers to stick their heads in the sand (present company excluded, of course ;)).

Sorry Joss, you lost me. What is the false-Right?

Lorien, If a 20% increase in price forces you to flush your dream knife, you are spending way to much of your money on knives. Collecting should be painless and for fun. A 20% increase should just mean one less fancy dinner out during the holidays.

The right that is "just a little bit less Socialist" instead of being principled, pro-freedom Capitalists. Examples abound, starting with current POTUS (drug benefits, bailout plans, etc) and Rep candidate (McCain-Feingold, etc).

The American people, refuse to continue their education. And I'm not talking about diplomas.

Well, to be fair, about half of the American people pay no income tax but gets benefits (and may even get tax rebate checks), so they have no reason to educate themselves and discover they're effectively looters.

Fair statement, I thought you ment me, Gingus Kahn and others like us.

I wish you would stop using the word REBATE when you mean WELFARE

to have a rebate you must first contribute something

I think the context of the preceding phrase made it clear I was ironic. But you are right of course.

Mr. Brownshoe, I'm not sure exactly how to respond to your post, except to say that it took me months of scrounging to save up $700 for a knife, and that's the outside of what I think is affordable for a knife I'm going to use and abuse. I cannot justify spending more than that on a knife that I'm going to put to use.

$1000 puts a knife into collecting territory, at least for me, and since I'm not really a collector yet, it's a non starter. A fluctuating US dollar is all it took to flush that knife deal.

Fancy dinners? Not yet my friend. I invest everything I have in my business and home, and then some. Apart from squirreling away the occasional cash I come across for knives, or buying knives at wholesale through my business in lieu of extra pay, everything I make beyond paying for necessities goes towards paying down my debts. When I'm old enough to enjoy collecting, I want it to be painless and fun, and that means having extra money around. But for now I have to be practical and responsible and work my ass off for little immediate gain. I expect it to pay off down the road, but for now the nose is to the grindstone, and I'm lucky to have what I have.

A.G. you are right on...Those folks know hot to work the sytem. I am a
tax professonial and see folks that pay 0 income tax walk out with up to
$5 to 9,000.

And as far as sticking your head in the sand, Willey Nelson has a great quote on that
Those that stick their head in the sand will only get a kick in the behind.

We're obviously just going through some kind of market cycle. Just sit tight (if you can) and it will correct itself one way or the other...

If you are pressed right now and have to sell knives at a loss, it's really too bad,... but all part of it. It will eventually all be for the best,... and the world will once again become the Custom Knife Eden we came from and have grown to know and love so well...

Just keep the faith! :)

Lorien, you are a collector. Once you buy that first knife that you don't really need, you begin to collect. You are even an advanced collector, you got there buying the "imp" Tai Goo's blade. :) Don't let the high priced people on this subforum let you think you're not collecting just because you spend less than 1K. Hell on the slipjoint forum, those collectors sometimes only spend a few bucks at the flea market for their treasures.

We all have to balance our addiction to knives with our financial situation. I too save my "pennies" for knives. I am currently saving for something around $500, which I have on order and is my "current dream." I also am a use and abuse collector, no safe queens for me too. For me, 20% of this is $100 which is about one fancy dinner for two, usually for something special, like the holidays. That's why I empathize, I am in the same boat as you, but a 20% increase would not force me to flush the order, it would just mean that I'd probably pay by credit card instead of cash, so I could float the extra a month or two.

However, the knife I really want is about 2K, and I could save this, but it really should go for gutters, new back wall, new storm doors, etc. For that knife, 20% is 400, and that would take me even longer to save and that kind of increase would be a deal buster. I can't float that on the credit card and be true to my financial goals. Basically, I feel your pain since I'm in the same situation. My advice was meant to be friendly since I have a similar problem.

It might be too late for that, Bobby, but be of good cheer, for control is His and history is His story.

Consider that Ezekiel's 2,600 year old prediction of a Russia-Muslim coalition staging on Israel's border to annihilate her might be at hand. If so, Israel needs an anti-war American president with gilded tongue but no chest to intervene with the spectacular events to follow. If so, McCain's defeat was preordained.

As for knives, afterthought might be a more appropriate concept than aftermarket, at least until each has dusted off his Bible to read Ezekiel 38 and 39 and see how farsighted the old prophet was.

Caution: some models show enough accumulated dust that if blown airborne at once the resulting dust storm could block the sun long enough to end global warming and initiate a new ice-age. EPA is looking in to it.
