I owe you guys a few more pictures! I've been working on a little side project (can't really talk about it just yet) that's been eating up all of my free-time, but I'll try to get some better photos soon!

Lamb Foot in Raffir stabilized black and white mammoth ivory. 😍

And how it compares to some of the other lamb foot knives in my collection. :)

Does Eric take custom orders or something?

Not that I’m aware of, but I’m not sure. I don’t want to speak for Eric. I hope I didn’t cause his inbox to fill up because of my post, lol.

My lamb foot is just an example of Eric’s awesomeness as a person. About eight months ago or so, I sent Eric four mammoth tusk slabs and some other vintage material. Eric was kind enough to use some of the material to make a knife for me.

I hear it can be difficult to work….

That wouldn’t surprise me in the least! I haven’t worked it just yet, but I have several pieces of regular katalox that I’ve cut into scales. It’s some solid stuff! It almost felt like african blackwood hard. I imagine the curly stuff, with the grain going everywhere would be a massive pain.

Fixall Fixall absolutely stunning! So the mammoth is stabilized? Is it in some sort of resin? I love it.

Correct.

It’s stabilized and then cast in black dyed resin. It was kind of experiment to see if the material would be durable enough for a little side project I’m working on. Unfortunately, the material ended up being fairly brittle (people smarter than me suspect it’s the heat from stabilization or the exothermic reaction from casting). I sent material to three makers. There was enough material for 5 - 7 knives total, but I believe only enough material for three knives survived the process.

I just recently cut five new mammoth slabs. I purchased the tusk stabilized and cast, like the last material, but I’m trying something a little different.

After cutting the stabilized/cast tusk into slabs, I sent it out to K&G to be stabilized AGAIN. From there, I’m going to cast each individual slab in Liquid Diamonds resin and see how it goes. Most likely it will be a failure. 😂

Natural, unstabilized mammoth seems to be the way to go.

Jack, I really hope you get one
Thanks Jon, I hope so too, but I'm happy looking at them 🙂👍

That looks incredible 😎🙂👍
There are more to come!!! ;)
Great news 🙂👍

Jon that's always a possibility, the red sleeveboard jacks turned out nice.

Nice pics everyone! Let me know if you find any areas that could use improvement on those lamb foot knives.

Eric
I really hope you do.

My constructive feedback is the covers should have been red 🤣 and because the lambfoot blade doesn’t have a belly on it I think there is room to lower the blade more in the well. I only say this because it looks like after a number of sharpenings a proud tip may develop.

My jokes of the covers aside the wood you picked is something else. They’re about impossible to capture in a picture and have a great texture to them. I don’t know what patterns you were considering, but I’m very happy you went with a swayback instead of a Barlow. Also the pull is very satisfying.

They are beautiful! The only area of improvement would be to send me an invoice for one with any choice of handles. Of course as you mentioned before an ancient lambfoot would be great addition. 😃.
