Albers Cutlery Company

Hey folks, sorry so many of you are having a hard time snagging a knife. The demand is just mind-bogglingly high right now. As of last night I had just shy of 1200 people on the email list. Eventually I should think things will simmer down a bit, and in the meantime I'll keep cranking them out. For those of you who've been wondering how I go about the launches; I set up the email so it's ready to send. I then list all the knives on the website and set them as drafts. When the time comes, I hit "send" on the emails (all sent as a batch) and immediately set the listings to "active". That's about as simultaneous as I can make it.

Fox79 the numbers on this batch were 20 snakewood, 23 kirinite, and 8 axis antler ( I had just 1 antler to work with as a trial run). I used up the last of my parts on this batch and I'm working on new parts now so it may be a little while before the next run is done, but in the meantime I'll be working on the sheath knives to keep things rolling.

Had a bit of a price increase on this run due to some price increases on my end as well as seeing what my tax situation will be. I definitely started out too low but I think it's now where it should be.

I just want to thank you all again for the amazing support you've given me, hopefully I can eventually get a knife to each of you!

Also, did you notice that I listed the snakewood as snakeskin wood? What?? That cracks me up. I think my brain gets a little whacked out at launch time LOL!

Eric

Eric, thanks for the info/transparency.

I wonder if having a “standard” material (maybe Ebony or Ironwood) that you produced with every run (let’s say 15 or 20 knives out of 50) might help spread the wealth a little. The variety of covers you’ve been doing is great, but it also means folks coming back for another who already have one (or several). Nothing wrong with that, of course, but making a larger quantity (over time) of a standard configuration might help more people get their hands on one. Just an idea.

Here’s a photo I took today of my “First 15” Bubinga (closed) and Catalina Cherry Burl (open).

Eric I think you are very much on point here. I would suspect that demand should subside sometime around 9-10 years from now.:D

No Pressure.. But looking forward to seeing those that got one from the latest drop posting photos. Been going back through the thread and some magnificent knives been posted. :) .

The reason Eric has 1200 people on his email list is because knife people know that this is a $200+ knife that they can buy for way less money. Who wouldn't buy a knife that they could resell 5 minutes later for a hundred dollar profit. If Eric would price them at $200, then the people that really wanted one might be able to get one . . . might.

Hi Eric,

I am one of those who missed with seconds even though I have waited for it all day long.

It would be great if you could set a system up so those who never bought one before have a better chance of buying. I think the joy would be greater (at both ends) if more people can have those to use.

Get in line buddy! :D

This is near impossible without Eric needing to spend significant amount of time sorting through previous buys. Even then, he is still looking at 1000 plus interested buyers...

I doubt many of these are being bought by people that are looking for a 'working knife'.

Unfortunately I agree on both accounts. I don't buy any extra GECs of a run to cherry pick and trade when I have the opportunity but I see that they're being sold at $150-$200. And I haven't seen any pictures of Albers knives that look like they're putting in concerted duty. I think the uptick in people joining the hobby and buying slip joints is a result of the pandemic. Maybe it will die down if people are able to have a more interactive lifestyle again.

I hope to get one sometime. When I heard about them, they sounded ideal to me. Like a knife I would have spec'ed out for myself. I think what Eric is doing is really cool. His history with previous manufacturers and his decision to turn out knives like these that don't fall into the "custom knife" lane demonstrates impressive effort to get these knives out. I'll be one of the first to sign up here for some kind of BF special opportunity, but I'll also acknowledge that there isn't much otherwise he could do and not make this a big headache for himself. Maybe a lottery, but again, he'd be doing us a favor by agreeing to that.

If Mr. Albers had interest and wanted to put off a few of the runs for his personal site, we could beg him to make a forum run for us, that could be our forum knife. It would probably have to limit us to one apiece, but still, it'd be an exclusive shot at one for us and it would probably be a really cool knife.
