All in on jacks

Does that Small Texas from 04 have a dye-job on the handles? Looks very neat indeed.

Thanks, Will

One of my fave jacks...

Barlow is a jack knife, right?

I was telling Jack a day or so ago that the old bone on this Böker Tree Brand 493 really shines in the sun. So, after several hours of yard work I decided to snap a few shots in the setting sun. Not the results I hoped for, but interesting pictures nonetheless.

Look at the glint of the edge in this second shot. It sliced right into my thumb when I opened it to begin taking pictures.

This third one probably shows the bone to best effect in the sunlight.

Also wanted to show the pile side bone on the Schrade 2331 which I was carrying today. Again, not the best picture, but you get some sense of how shallow the dye saturation is in this piece of bone, which gives it interesting color variation.

Sorry for the finger smudge on the blade. I just took it out of my pocket and snapped the picture.

I just modified my newly acquired Tidioute trapper into a sheepfoot jack.

I have three of these two-blade #48s now, and all three have the most beautiful, smooth action. Much better on average than my other GECs.

That's very nice, Jeff. I might just have to find me one of those 48s to try that on.

Ed, the key is finding a secondary blade that has enough blade past the nail nick to work the belly out, leaving the straight edge. So many trappers have the nick way at the end of the spey blade that it just won't work.

Here's an old KA-BAR jack knife 4" c.1925. It's built like a tank!! Long pull on the pen, don't see that
very much. KA-BAR did it back in those days... I dig it.

Beautiful Duncan! Your red bone Case knives always take my breath away for a moment. Thanks for showing some of them again.

Thank you Doug, its always such a pleasure looking at those Red Bones, I do admit to not using them as they are Mint, ...I truly believe I am missing out on something there, but I have enough knives that I arent getting to use, and gpoing through them slowly, maybe one day I will use them gently, untill then, I get a huge amount of satisfaction just handling them and giving them a darne good eye ball lol.
Thank you Doug my friend.

Looks great Jeff!! I've thought of doing that myself many times but haven't taken the plunge. I'm still hoping GEC puts the wharncliffe from the Scagel knives on their regular #48s soon.

Thanks, Trand. I would prefer a Wharncliffe with a hump in the spine, like the one on the Saddle Trapper, only slimmer from spine to edge. This would allow the nicks to both be on the mark side, without sticking up so high that it would interfere with the grip when using the clip master. But I sure do like the #48 frame, and the length of it's clip blade in a sub-four inch pattern.
