All That Is Survive! Knives, Post Here Reopened

If you asked my children then they would be fully up to date being all signed up to Facebook and other media savvy. I am a dinosaur.

Understood, which is why I mentioned just visiting his Facebook page the way you would visit a website for updates. Just as an FYI...You don't have to be a member or sign in...you just go to his page to check his most recent posts the way you would click on the news page of his web site. You can also check his responses to questions others may have asked. For example, a customer asked about a photo of a GSO 6, particularly the way the brown handle came out. Guy responded explaining that he reversed the saturation in the photo to make the blade really pop. That was really helpful because I would have assumed the brown I saw in that photo would be the brown I'd be getting. This enabled me to adjust my handle choice.

I think we just want to give Guy a nudge to improve his media side to the business. I know practical people prefer to make things, but half of any business is the paper work! I'm bad at it too.

Agree 100%. I think even his toughest critics feel the same way. We definitely want him to succeed. I too placed an order for the GSO 4.1 in 20CV and am eagerly awaiting. :D

And yeah, the steels are what got my attention too....already got me a GSO 6!

Take care!

You could always do what I have done. Don't preorder, but then don't expect the lower price for preorders. Wait for the knives to become available and then buy, but at the relatively higher market price. I did this for the GSO 4.1 in 3V in early November and the CPM 20CV just before Christmas and the knives were sent fairly quickly. You do take the risk using this method that you will miss out because the knives sell out so quickly, which by the way would seem to go against the suggested idea that Survive! Knives might go out of business in the short term. No matter what, these knives are extremely popular and I bet other brands wish they sold out so quickly. Guy should probably use some Psychology and report delivery dates for preorders at twice as long as it really takes. Then when the knives arrive early, his patrons will be overjoyed. I think there are many examples of a long wait for other quality knives (eg Dozier's) and that does not include a cheaper preorder price. I hope that Guy does learn though that he does have to pay more attention to improving his business communication skills.

I just got a 4.1 and am real impressed with everything about it.
Initially I bought it on a whim cause I already have a 3.5 on order but I saw it in stock at GPK and got one.

The 7/7 is my go to for out in the woods but the 4.1 could most certainly have me rethink the bigger knife thing for camping.
Good thing is that instead of choosing one or the other I can just take them both.

The only other blade that I have in this size is an Esee4 and the 4.1 feels more comfortable and balanced.
The Esee is a great knife but the 4.1 has it beat by a little bit.
Now I really can't wait to see the 3.5.

I spent some time on Facebook, and he does a much better job of keeping everyone updated there. He also suggested he would not be doing pre-orders in the future due to all of the problems he has had. The problem I have with the Facebook approach is that I no longer belong to Facebook after being a member for several years. The reason is that they default to allow everyone to see everything when they change their privacy settings, even though I have never allowed anyone but friends see my stuff. But that is besides the point. My personal boycott of Facebook has nothing to do with this discussion.

It is probably time for the pre-order to go away. I know why Guy does this. He gets to use his customers money interest free to jump start his business, and in so doing, he provides a substantial savings on the purchase plus a serialized knife to enhance the collectibility of the piece. This seams to be a win/win situation. But the lack of communication except on social media results in a significant subset of the customer base being left in the dark. Simple email notifications to preorder customers updating delays would have prevented any criticism I have with Survive.

I do not think Guy is going bankrupt, going out of business, ...etc. But, we all have examples where companies have. If you all have gotten in on a pre-order and received your serialized knife, hang on to it because there may not be another chance to get one. I suspect that Guy's cash flow is getting to the point where he no longer will need to do this.

As I have stated repeatedly, I do not mind the wait for these exceptional knives at a substantial savings, but better communication when crap happens resulting in a significant delay is all that I ask. This does not require a lot of work. It only requires setting up an email group of all preorder customers, and use it to communicate to them. I hope to see my 10 and my 4.1 soon.

I had no idea about the Facebook thing. I don't use it, don't have an account and am not interested in what it offers me. It's unfortunate that those of us who prefer email or phone calls or whatever seem to get sort of left out of a lot of what's going on. Facebook seems very impersonal to me. Hey, if you're interested, you make the effort, not me! That's kind of what I get from it. Ah well. Once I get the couple I'm waiting on (and have already paid for), I'm done anyway. I just hope they show up soon!

From Facebook re: GSO 10

I hope this is true but it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't... boy, have people waited a long time for those 10's. Guy responded to someone a couple of days ago on facebook asking about an update on his 3.5. Guy said they would be finishing up in a couple of weeks. I would love to be wrong but I see with Survive!'s past history and the fact he is preparing for Shot, this is a snowballs chance in he(double hockey sticks) of ever happening. Guy still can not own up to giving his customers realistic time-frames. I think I will be tickled pink if I see my 3.5 before March.

Well my Heavy Cover titanium Canteen order is now in the post! Order went in in September, so good things do happen for those that wait. Survive Knives order will happen sometime. Out from me on this one as its best put away until a package arrives as its less frustrating forgotten. (Shot Show, well thats two weeks written off, one for the hangover).
Happy New Year.

I will say that they made one promised deadline recently, and that was to get the smooth-spine 4.1's out the door before Christmas or send t-shirts. Mine went out on the 23rd of Dec. Then they put up another batch of them with a note saying they would go out before SHOT, so we'll see if they make that one.

I ordered my jimpless 4.1 on 12-11. No sight of it yet.

Just got an email, Survive is out of sheaths and scales. Josh is telling me another week or so. I guess it will be after Shot.

I don't know about the scales, but a few hundred sheaths should be arriving over the next few days starting Tomorrow. That should get some moving out.

Chiral, I probably do but I'm horrible at working with other people.

Thanks for posting to this thread, Kiah. I don't know how you landed this gig with Guy, but keep up the good work

This was the jimpless version in 3V. On 12-11-13 when I ordered it, I thought that they were made and ready to ship upon order. Guess I was mistaken. It is Friday and I have no email notification that the 10 I ordered in April 2012 has shipped either. I guess everything will have to wait until after the show. I hope I have a surprise next week, but I am not holding my breath. Thank you immensely Kiah for the updates on this thread. I really do love your work.
