All That Is Survive! Knives, Post Here Reopened

Just to give a bit of an update, at least some of the delay is on me. I'm working pretty much constantly to get sheaths out. Most of the time lately it's been 36-40 hour shifts, but there's only so much that can be done. The GSO-10s in particular have obviously been slow going as there's just so much work in them.

I believe all the GSO-10 sheaths being waited on have been delivered as of Today, so those should be rolling out. 4.1 sheaths have started heading out and will be done as quickly as I can make them.

Hope this helps a bit.

Kiah, are you making enough to hire/train some assistance? If not, up your prices  Your quality is there, almost annoys me that I cannot order sheaths for other brands from you ;)

I pre-ordered a 3.5 and got in on the last release of the 4.1. I thought I had missed out on the last 4.1's as I couldn't get the survive page to load properly on my computer, so I sent them an email about 4pm (mst) I had a response back by 10am (mst) the next day, I had not missed and I could order the 4.1 that I wanted and could place my order. I see many have talked about a lack of communication, but have you tried to contact him? I did and got an answer back what I would consider very quickly.

I hope guy gets his communication up to snuff, even if all he did was place updates on his FB page the word would get out with where production schedules are at.

Now what I am really upset about is missing out on the 4.1 with carbon fiber scales and the Sagewood sheath. I saw it and thought about it for about 20 min and missed out... dammit!

I too saw some of his recent 4.1 offerings that I really liked. Since I already have two 4.1s (one in M390 and one 3V) I thought it over for a while. When I went back to pull the trigger, Sold Out was all I saw. I can't wait to hear here how people are liking these latest 4.1 offerings. The 4.1 is the fixed blade that is on my belt more than any other that I own.

I have been fortunate in being able to snag both versions of the GSO 4.1. I don't know whether this is the right place to ask this question or whether I should start a new thread, but here is my question - I know the CPM-20CV GSO 4.1 is stainless and the 3V version is not and that the 3V version will hold an edge forever (maybe an exaggeration), but in real life use (eg. not trying to stab throught car doors or concrete blocks), what will I be able to do with my 3V GSO 4.1 that I couldn't do with my CPM-20CV version; or in other words, what are the limitations of using the CPM-20CV GSO 4.1 compared to the 3V one. I probably should point out that I rarely use a knife for battoning.

Depends on the geometry. Take a measurement of the shoulders (the point at which the bevel meets the flat) on both knives and post them here. You'll need a micrometer or caliper to get that measurement. Apparently they ground the 12-6-2013 release and the 12-24-2013 release thinner than previous versions.

So can the 4.1s be ordered in the new handle options? I didn't see it in the drop-down menu. Only in those limited offerings.

On paper, CPM-3V at this hardness is about twice as impact (shock) resistant as 20CV. But the above post is correct, it really depends on the geometry. The older versions were not as proficient at cutting - they weren't 'bad', they still came razor sharp (I've posted a shaving video to prove it), but because the edge was 0.030 - 0.040" thick at the shoulders, their cutting ability was not as high as a knife of thinner geometry. That said, they could take quite the beating with minimal edge loss! But these are knives and the steels Guy uses only really shine as you make them thinner. 20CV should have significantly higher wear-resistance than 3V but both will "cut forever" at the new geometry, and with relative ease. The added toughness of 3V might only reveal itself if, in the midst of heavy cutting, you impact a rock or a staple or something that will induce damage in either steel - in such scenario, 20CV is likely to fracture more (bigger chip) than 3V. Some have suggested than if lateral stress or torque is applied to a fine edge, the 3V will again resist fracture better than the 20CV. Other than that, the surest way you'll notice a difference is if you leave the knife wet overnight in the sheath - CPM-3V will show more corrosion (as I've shown in a video of the GSO-10) whereas 20CV may not show any.

sounds like 10s will be shipping soon
anyone got the shipping notice yet?

Guy did write me and let me know that my pre-order (late Sept) of the 3.5 in 20CV will be coming my way in mid-January. That is a happy note for me.

I believe the 7/7 is very similar in size, maybe about a quarter of an inch longer blade. You can find them on evilbay with a swedge, too.

Has anyone tried received and tried the drop-sheath extensions yet? They look a bit short, and i was hoping that they wouldn't be model-specific. I made my own design a while ago that works well on every model I've tried, but may not be as nice..

They are well-made, but about an inch shorter than I would have liked. The dangler option is there, but a bit lower than I'd like for the 4.1

I've been away from this forum for a couple of years now, having been quite an avid inputter. Its also been a few years now since any knife has really caught my imagination as my CRK, Al Mars, Blackjacks, and Gransfors just keep on giving sterling service (shows my age). Survive knives hooked me and I went for a preorder 3.5 as everything seemed to be sold out by the time I had funds available. I'm in the UK so I had to see one at least before I should order more. Being a UK order nothing is going to be cheap with the post, import taxes and sale taxes (add 35%).

Basically I'm back on the forum to find out how my order is going. I don't mind the wait but I do just wish they put something up on their main website. Presently the main page and the info on there is more than useless. Some people don't want to be on Facebook! It would be so easy to keep everyone happy with the minimum info on their main page. We know its a start up company, we know what a great product they are doing their best to get out, we know they are hitting their sales, and we know with such a small team its going to take time to get the stuff out. Thats all fine, but please just give us regular updates of whatever the truth is. We are big boys; we can handle it! They are big boys toys so we can be incredibly patient for things we want. Guy, we will root for you but just communicate (plus you will shrink the number of "where is my knife" emails).

Not seen a real picture of a 3.5 yet either.

Feel better now and will get on with my other stuff; one day it will happen.

You are not alone, many others have problems with Guy's communication about products that his customers have paid for.
