chiral.grolim,

Thanks for the great review and vids! Makes waiting a little more bearable. My 5.1 is en route.

Thanks for the videos, chiral.grolim. Good stuff. A lot of people say a knife is "shaving sharp," not a lot of people actually put the knife to their throat.

Nice videos!

I said it before and I'll say it again: When will any news appear about the smaller design they have in the works? A Survive! Bird and Trout sized knife would be great. M390 (or whatever the US-made counterpart is called) might be perfect for me.

How about a chest shaving or leg shaving vid? :p :p

Best purchase I made for 2013!
And with Guy's generous July 4th discount.

As a matter of fact, I did some leg-shaving with the GSO-5.1 as part of the last video i posted, but I cut it out because the angle was weird and my legs are looking a bit odd from too much edge-testing :p

To PB Wilson, Guy recently posted that he's working on those smaller designs now. The recent batch of 5.1's and 5's is in completion and the 7/7's are underway... I am unsure if we'll see the smaller knife designs before the GSO-10 re-release which likely follows the 7/7 batch. Something to look forward to

Was just kidding about the chest/leg vid. :D

also this sheath hooks right up the Esee molle back that i strapped it to my bag with in case anyone was wondering. took a little finagling but it hooked right up.

I'm kinda excited about the 3.5 I keep hearing Guy referencing

I did the ESEE-Molle back as part of my review. Anybody who hasn't seen the review, please check it out and comment as desired: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...n-to-SYKCO-511-SRKW-RatManDu-Cattaraugus-225Q

Looks good chiral. I saw your review (which was awesome btw) but I forgot you used your esee molle back. Mine just has the optional accessory pouch on the front and I thought I'd share it.

The more I look at these the more I like them. Really like the blade shape and straight handle.

One question please. A few of the pics look as if you could catch a fingernail on the full tang all the way around the scales.
Not sure if its the pics or just me. Does the scale to tang fit feel smooth, or could you catch a nail on the tang ?

The scales and tang are flush. Nothing protrudes out of the handles except the blade and the pommel/recessed lanyard loop as far as I'm aware

Ken,

I own five Survive! knives of various sizes (well that have handles anyway) and all of the scales are nicely flush with the tang as Johnny mentioned.

I have heard otherwise, but have yet to experience it. Hope my data points are useful.

The straight handle is actually a point of detraction for me, much less ergonomic, but I discuss that in more detail in the review.

Regarding the tang and scales, they are CNC'd to the same measurements, but the edges of the scales are then nicely rounded for comfort which removes a teensy bit of material around the perimeter, maybe 0.1 mm, just enough that i can catch a thin edge (like my fingernail) on the tang. But the corners of the metal have also been rounded ever so slightly to remove any sharp edges other than the cutting edge, so while I can just catch the tang with my fingernail, it cannot hold on. With my hands, I cannot feel that ledge at all. The fit is every bit as good or better than my Bussekin, only surpassed by my knives with polished handles where the scales & tang were finished together.

As others wrote, there may be slight variation from knife to knife.
