Murph's got some he'll lend you. He wears them to them to the irish pubs around here. You might want to was em first.

Is that the pair with the big hole in the ass? No, I'll pass on those. But thanks. :D

Speaking of orgasmic activity... :p

I just had a Bentons-gasm. Last of the country ham. Fried egg with Tobasco. Rye/Pumpernickel toast with some peach preserves. Damn. Just damn.

Just cut up a bunch of crazy hard maple (or, I think it's maple judging by the grain and color) now time to split it. I have this strange feeling the next hour, or three, are going to suck...

today's logging report:

o'dark 4:30 ... cold too... weather says snow coming, sorta smelled like it while i was outside making woo with wood.

10 cart loads of mostly oak. uphill. oof. workout. mostly rounds previously cut yesterday or so.

the Stihl MS261 is a beast but a mere 11ish pounds which is awesome. just rips through oak. the littler MS180 is great for the small stuff, limbing, green stuff, and is barely 9 lbs - but it is SLOW at the foot thick oak, but hey, 1/2 the power of big brother. both are worthy.

5-6 approximately 5-7 logs ranging 6-7 inches diameter - these were shoulder carried with a glove-as-pad. little sherpa steps. uphill. feel the burn. lol.

split about 1/2 the rounds extracted today. made the holz-haussen more taller, and more filled. fresh oak smells so good when split. dry oak dry!

got a delivery of 380 compressed logs on a palette. from truck to garage with a cool lift system. sweet. these about the equivalent of 1.5 cord of wood, and previously gone on about in detail. each one weighs 5.5 pounds (4" x 10"?), some kind of hardwood fir from WA, and 1.5 times as dense as oak, making the palette come in around 2090 pounds. gah

hey, pictures:

Bladite is as happy as a pig in poop. I'm glad you got some room to spread out, man.

maple splits pretty easy.
have fun!
HA! You shoulda tried splitting this sugar maple I got this summer - I've still got pieces that refuse to split the grain is so wavy. Course maybe that's cause it's a "city tree", all warped by society instead of living free in the woods like his wild brethren.....plus, that thing was more trussed up than Joan Rivers and had as much metal in it as Evil Knievel.

so you cut it on a bandsaw, let it dry, and MAKE KNIFE HANDLES!!!
*sheesh*

Fiskars X-25 to the rescue :D

it's a weird splitting axe, but so good. lighter than the "original super splitting axe", heavier than the "original splitting axe", ya know, before Fiskars went all X-* on stuff, and probably gave up on China, cuz they make crap... Made in Finland. yar.

they say "one strike splits", and mostly, you don't even have to power through. sometimes 50% power :> it's funny. it just works.

love me my splitting tire too :)

a pig with poop tools.

good tools make all the world of difference

those tongs? easy peasy to pick up (or drag) wood, no bending over, just a wee knee bend...

the hookeraroon is even more fun; definitely the thing you need in snake country, if you are going to poke around in wood piles

spike, drag, or pickup. no bent knee even. love it.

Excuse the Busse, but here is my splitting axe. Only pic I could find. You're right that the things just slide right through without too much effort.

doesn't hurt to touch up the edges with a file now and again, but i'm amazed at how much logs explode with delightment

the tire system really keeps them in check though, and part of the whole "thou shalt not bend over to get wood" experience :D
