I don't want a sabre......I like my flats ..........If I keep telling myself this I will believe it :(:(

In full size, I only have sabers. I ground the crap out of my 16 flat and turned it into a 16 "lite."

Excuse the Busse, but here is my splitting axe. Only pic I could find. You're right that the things just slide right through without too much effort.

I have the same one.. It works great on everything else except this damn wood I was trying to split earlier.

Oooooookaaaaayyyyyy...

I'm curious, why does everyone go all gaga over the sabre 16's? Is it just the rarity or what?

I have no idea why everyone else likes them, but its not because its "rare" to me, I dont consider that saber 16 "so rare" It wouldnt be a collector for me id use it, honestly I just like the looks of a saber knife better than FFG. But my FFG RMD out slices my saber RMD all day long. SO for function in a smaller knife -not chopping or batooning- A FFG might be better most the time. But I have slicers, i have choppers. I just want a saber 16 for its looks. I think the saber 16 and the brute are the 2 coolest looking beckers. And both have "better" working close cousins out easily available.

Fiskars X-25 to the rescue :D

it's a weird splitting axe, but so good. lighter than the "original super splitting axe", heavier than the "original splitting axe", ya know, before Fiskars went all X-* on stuff, and probably gave up on China, cuz they make crap... Made in Finland. yar.

they say "one strike splits", and mostly, you don't even have to power through. sometimes 50% power :> it's funny. it just works.

love me my splitting tire too :)

Well, most of it did split, just not straight....this with an 8 lb. maul. My 24" Fiskars (not the bigger one) was bouncing off some of the stuff. I'd like to get their biggest "one hit split" ax, but if the maul won't split it, the Fiskars won't either. Most of it's split anyway. And the rest can wait until my back is better.
Made hot dogs on the fire (made of said wood), onions & peppers in a foil pouch and corn on the grill. Sierra Nevada Celebration (:( just one, got some meds to take shouldn't mix with alcohol). Nice night for a fire - cold enough to really enjoy the warmth, not so cold I wasn't comfortable in shorts. Too bad I'm not comfortable sitting, or I'd still be out there. Watched some of daizee's Nautilus expedition. So cool. Now I'm going to try and post some (reasonably sized) photos of this evening.

the splitting axes with the cheeks, are all supposedly one split axes.

i've encountered some logs that bounce, but mostly that's when i don't do a 95% to the edge strike, and instead hit the middle. waste of a strike. takes more strikes. get that edge, the logs explode. still, i agree some wood is tricky.

Just finished polishing this one. Blue dyed stabilized maple burl handle scales, nearly 16" OAL, 1095 steel (3/16" thick, I think). What do you think: Leather or kydex sheath?
