I sold a Strider brown CC SNG last month on the exchange http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1203881-Price-Drops-OBO-added-ZT-0300-BW-Spyderco-Military. The buyer is now going thru PayPal requesting a refund. I'm scared that if I return their money, they'll somehow manage to still keep the knife and I'll get double-screwed. Has anyone dealt with this before as a Seller and had a positive experience thru PayPal?

Here is their statement on PayPal "Buyer: I would like to return a knife for refund. It has extremely sticky and late (worn-out?) lock-up and a very sligh side-to-side movement of the blade.I would not buy it in the store as new, and would like to return in the condition as I got it.I do not mind You keeping shipping cost, that would return both of us to the initial state without loss at any side."

The Strider was bought new here from the exchange, stayed in my safe, catch-and-release. The lock wasn't even broken in yet. I'm just in shock that the member wouldn't come to me first instead of going straight to PayPal. That is what sticks out to me most. That and the buyer had zero feedback and only has been a member for 3 weeks. But I'm a newbie too, so I'm learning...just hoping not learning by losing $425 and a Strider...

Don't refund any money until you get a tracking number for the knife. The buyer should have contacted you first to give you the opportunity to make things right.

I wouldn't give a penny back until you have the knife in your hands and it's in the eact same condition as when you sent it.

Contact PayPal. Tell them you agree to return his money when he returns the knife. They will know he returned it when USPS shows it delivered. Video the opening of the returned package so he doesn't substitute the wrong knife.

This is the safest way for both of you, since once you have the knife, you can't scam him by keeping the money since PP will refund him.

If it were me, I'd want pictures of the "as delivered" condition. I'd want to see if the knife really looks the same now as it did when you shipped it.

^yep. ^you might end up getting back one of those $45 eBay "striders" this is shady at best

I filed a paypal claim for damaged goods once, I didn't get a penny until Paypal was provided with confirmation of the delivered item.

The problem is paypal doesn't know what gets delivered only when it gets delivered. I've dealt on eBay for a long time and paypal weighs heavily in the buyers favor.
The buyer can send you an empty box with a tracking #, once paypal is alerted that a package was returned from buyer to seller the case is closed. This is the way it was 3-4 years ago when I ran into a problem buyer and I really hope it's changed.
I like the idea of videotaping the unboxing of said knife.

Thanks everyone for your comments so far, I think the "get the knife back then let PP issue refund" is consensus of the route to take. I'm just afraid that this member knows what they're doing and has had success at this in the past. I contacted the other two members who've dealt with him so far to see if there's any funny business/warn them of strangeness. His member name is "gormonbozia", bunch of different addresses and email addresses. Gah!

Absolutely- especially considering this is a new member with Zero Feedback...then you factor in that he didn't have the decency to contact you first, is completely ludicrous!

"Please name the member. Poor form on their part."

I second that! Of all of the deals that I have done here on BladeForums, I have had to return one knife, & I also had one returned, but both of these transactions were amicably handled between me and the other party, with no problems whatsoever.

Best of luck, Braincandle.

Been there, done that. Contact PayPal, they'll explain the process. The funds won't be returned until you contact PayPal and confirm you received your knife back in the order you sent it. If you have a dispute, PayPal will keep the claim open until they can settle it. That's what I went through. I felt better about the whole ordeal after I talked to PayPal and they explained what my rights were.
It's sad when someone jumps to file a claim instead of giving the seller a chance to make it right. That person is on my ignore list with a few others.

That's great news! I'm glad it works like this now. Paypal has come a long way in the last 5 years.

linky no worky!

Work's for me. Does this link to his profile work:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/member.php/384709-gormonbozia

Works for me, and by the sounds of him it looks like he may be trying to pull a fast one on the OP. If not, then it was very uncool to open up a Pyapal dispute without contacting the OP first.

Right now it's a lose lose situation for this clown. If he's trying to scam the OP he's a douche and even if he's not trying to scam the OP he's still a douche for not contacting him. Let's take him off to W&C for a public lynching!

Thanks for RevDevil to send me the link to this thread so I could give my point of view of the situation. So here it is:

On PayPal dispute

PayPal buyer protection is a transparent and clean way to have a dispute by exchanging messages. It’s designed for that! That is why so many people use PP so confidently. Should I contacted Braincandle directly he would have the same concerns as he has now – that is a human nature to have a doubt. Now, Braincandle, if You were so willing to work it out with me, why did YOU ESCALATED IT TO A CLAIM!

On my reputation and attitude

In my 2 weeks bought 6 great knives here. See my posts – see the knives. One was not to my liking – I sold it myself on eBay with loss. That is my philosophy – my decision = my loss. Then comes the Strider with a frame lock that need both hands to get the knife closed, bummer. Does it have to be my problem?

On THE knife

This knife needs full disclosure – it’s a bad specimen of a Strider. If Braincandle lists in again with no remarks – that would be a fraud. These things should be made aware of. If the knife is sticky, late or not centered – SAY IT. Otherwise you just trade your bad luck for someone’s cash. How is that called on this forum?

On courage

Special one for Metal Made Fox: It is very brave to call people clowns over the internet. You should be proud of yourself and buy a memorable shoulder patch.

For the seller.
Be calm. Im returning THE knife for original net value. Definitely wait for the delivery. Videotape unboxing – that is a good advice for your peace of mind. Make sure it is your SNG CC CTS-XHP and make a refund. Many people done that before without making oh-my-god-what-should-I-do panic thread.
If at the end of the day you feel displeased with this transaction – go on and leave me a bad feedback. That is your right - feedback is designed exactly for that. And it is a two way process as you know.
These replies take time so with your permission, I will not be replying to future posts in this thread, since I believe you guys now can be just.
