Am i getting scammed

For the umpteenth time...in hope of saving the next poor soul...

STOP USING EMAIL, and especially, DON'T RESPOND to EMAIL which you can't authenticate.

The whole category of "Am I getting Scammed?" threads should be banned on BF. Why? If you ask, you already know and are only looking for sympathy.

The thread can be deleted if it makes things better im new on here and dont want to upset anyone
The only person that should be upset is you.The scammers are getting better with taking money from innocent people. That’s what’s so aggravating for members here.
I’d suggest to get a basic membership the next time you’re looking for a particular knife. That will protect you from losing your hard earned money from the scum of the earth.
You’ll be able to communicate privately to ensure you’re dealing with a member here. I’d also suggest to research the member here to see if they’re a contributing member of this forum. And lastly, in the future, don’t be so eager to jump on a knife. High dollar knives don’t sell real quick, so you’ll have time to be sure it’s a legit deal.

I am not very tech savy, but I see the example photo indicates that it was AI. Is that always the case

No it doesn't always indicate it is AI, I think that was just the filename. Here's another photo that doesn't look as "refined" and looks to be in a more realistic setting/lighting with different text style. Sometimes there will be a watermark if you're lucky. I think Gemini adds a watermark.

I always put in my thread "Will not send you an email for payment" or something of the sort. Should be enough of a deterrent when combined with common sense.

Buy a membership, and dont use PPFF and you'll get along fine. I have no clue what protections Chime has in place, but generally the only reason for anyone to have it is because they have bad credit and cant get credit elsewhere, so i wouldn't recommend sending money that way either.

So did the lennyou guy have a gold membership? I’m confused about how he would’ve saw the wtb thread without the appropriate membership. Apologies if this has already been asked and answered. Making $1470 is a good lick but I just don’t think he’d pay for a membership. Makes me think they’re working with others(gold members laying low)on here.

Well if you pay $30 and are able to scam someone out of a few thousand bucks, thats a solid pay day for a scammer.

As I said “it’s a good lick”. Whenever I try to look at the perps profile it doesn’t show gold. Pretty sure they show the membership level banner even after being banned. I could be wrong though

You bring up a good point, and it's something that only Spark Spark can trace. Perhaps some flaw in the software...I don't know.

What I do know is that I saw the post and the offer to sell in WTB by a member without the correct membership level. Add in the connection to Lagos and it's exponentially more suspicious on its face.

So, I banned the account.

Here's what I saw that prompted the action:

Okay, I see what happened. The OP originally opened a new thread in the Custom Knife sub-forum. The thread was appropriately moved to WTB, and when it was moved, the reply from the scammer to the original post went along with it.

So, the banned member did not have access to the WTB area, as he had replied to the OP outside of the Exchange. His post simply transferred over to the new thread when it was moved to WTB, and once it was seen it was deleted, and the account banned. (Unfortunately, not before the hook was set.)

Mystery solved.

(ETA: The post was removed and he was literally banned four minutes after the time he posted. Just bad luck.)

Thank you for the clarification. Didn’t mean to make you do any work.
