Ammo sales and future survival (another potential political thread)

Gump,

You mentioned you made an ammo purchase at Cabela's. Did you use a credit card for the purchase?

If so, does the potential that your card will share the specifics of your purchase with governmental agencies give you pause?

If you went to a gun store, would you use a credit card to purchase a gun or ammo?

Thanks.

Yes, I used a credit card and no, it doesn't concern me since the government can easily determine from past gun purchases that I am a gun owner. I don't necessarily like it but that's the way it is. [shrug]

Regarding a gun store purchase, it would depend on whether or not I had enough cash in my pocket.

I had a vivid dream a couple of weeks ago that went something like this:
The US economy had deteriorated significantly. Unemployment was in the double digits. Poverty and crime and misery were on the rise.
Then there was a massive, coordinated terrorist attack on several cities. That caused things to tip to total anarchy. Society essentially collapsed.

I don't expect that to happen. Well except for the economic part. That is happening and I don't see a recovery soon.
That said, it's good to be prepared.
As far as it being too late to buy guns or ammo like some have suggested, I don't know where that comes from. There's been a flurry of buying of hi-cap guns and ammo but I know of no shortage of most guns and ammo.

Oh bother. Now y'all are making me paranoid. I went out and stocked up a little more thanks to this thread. The store was completely out of 9mm- every single round was gone. Apparently I'm not the only guy in town who had the same idea.

One thing is for sure - promoting fears of anti gun/ammo legislation is great for guns and ammo sales! If I owned a gun shop or were some type of ammo vendor, I'd be talking about this topic constantly.

I personally don't think there are going to be any drastic changes in gun laws any time soon. As someone else said, the politicians have plenty of other stuff to worry about for the immediate time being. No harm in stocking up and being prepared, though.

There already have been. Effective 1/1/08 complete surplus military rifle kits could no longer be imported in to the US. I am referring to AK47/74 kits, ppsh kits, suomi kits, etc. All kits now must come without barrels. Considering there is little, if any, source for US made barrels, these weapons are now not worth building. I am of course referring to legal semi-automatic builds following all requirements of 922(r).

What used to be an $80 complete (minus receiver) Romanian AK47 "G" kit now passes through second and third hands for north of $200.

If you are partial to former communist weaponry, the future administration has stated that "no one needs an AK47." Draw your own conclusions.

Im with you Jeff.. I fear hyper inflation and continued collapse of the economy as the biggest problem we face.. Theres a good book called Patriots Surviving The Coming Collapse by James Wesley Rawles that lays out a total SHTF scenario tied to the economy. Its been called a surival manual disguised as a novel because it has alot of real deal info in it.. Might be worth some of you guys checking out, and a very timely read, even though it was originally written back in the 90's.. It has been updated several times since then.
The author is a former Naval Intelligence officer and survival expert.. He also lays out in great detail what would be the ultimate survival retreat, and system of mutual defense among a "group" of people.

I'll have to pick that book up, Trace. Thanks!

Jeff dont be suprised when you get to the part where one of my knives makes an appearance.. I should have put in that disclaimer..LOL..
I know Jim from trading knives for gear back in the day, and he decided to mention one of my knives at one point in the book which I thought was very cool.

This book changed the way I think about alot of things back in the mid to late 90's, and had a big impact on my decision making since I read it. Hell even the place Im moving to eventually, is the locale where this book takes place..;)

I think you will really like it man, and let me know what ya think after you read it.

"Does anyone else fear confiscation, or am I overreacting?"

I don't really think it will come to that but it will be a very bad day for whoever shows up to "try" to take my firearms!!

The thing we need to be concerned with is the "common sense" gun laws that Obama has all ready said that he is going to be pushing for.

I have been in the Army Reserves now for almost 15 years. I am currently on active duty at Ft Knox for a year and might have a deployment to Afghan next year. Soldiers and Sailors Civil Relief Act protects people in my situation however there are small loopholes and "work arounds" that most employers have figured out. It is a very good possibility that my job will not be there when I get back. I have taken that into account and planed accordingly.

All they will get from me is a corpse(mine of course after the firefight)!! Then I don't care if they take them.
