An honest question.

OK, guys.

I was miss-quoted several times in this thread. The OP got it right, nobody else did.

I was not implying (in my video of the Bravo1) that ESEE knives are junk, or far inferior to the the BRKTs. I was simply making a point about the priority of buying the best knife you can afford when it comes to something that will improve you're SURVIVAL chances in an emergency.

Those of you that have watch my reviews of Rat Cutlery and Ontario Rat knives know that I think they are very good, rugged, well designed, and very functional knives. Are they the best? In my humble opinion, no. Very, very good - not the best. Is BRKT the best? Probably not, but the best so far in my collection.

All my opinion here, remember. Blunt truth means "my truthful opinion", not "the indisputable facts".

As for paying way more for a BRKT over an ESEE. My Bavo1 was $140, not much more than similar ESEE knives.

This discussion reminds me of a movie.....

Tommy: Let's think about this for a sec, Ted. Why would somebody put a guarantee on a box? Hmmm, very interesting.

Ted Nelson, Customer: Go on, I'm listening.

Tommy: Here's the way I see it, Ted. Guy puts a fancy guarantee on a box 'cause he wants you to feel all warm and toasty inside.

Ted Nelson, Customer: Yeah, makes a man feel good.

Tommy: 'Course it does. Why shouldn't it? Ya figure you put that little box under your pillow at night, the Guarantee Fairy might come by and leave a quarter, am I right, Ted?

[chuckles until he sees that Ted is not laughing]

Ted Nelson, Customer: [impatiently] What's your point?

Tommy: The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy; well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. The next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser, and your daughter's knocked up. I seen it a hundred times.

Ted Nelson, Customer: But why do they put a guarantee on the box?

Tommy: Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of sh*t. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me.

Ted Nelson, Customer: [pause] Okay, I'll buy from you.

Thank you Tommy Boy...:D

Point is, there are many good companies that make good products for different peoples tastes and price ranges. Having an outstanding warranty is just another reason to purchase but not the only reason. Any knife, in the right circumstances or used in the wrong manner WILL BREAK or be lost (see knife attached at end of spear). There are no indestructible products but having a company that says "if it breaks, we will replace it" is great!

On a different note, did the company that made the survival knives with the round compass on the handle offer a good warranty? I have one that needs some service...

Every one has an opinion on what knife is the biggest bang for your buck,Best Survival Knife etc... etc .... BRK&T are Great knives USA made as is ESEE Knives.... Buy what you like but most of all use what you buy....IMO

Man this thread is an old one. OK back to backing up your product. To be honest, I had never even seen or known about ESEE until I came to this forum. There was so much talk about how well they worked, edge retention, overall toughness, extras that can be added to it, demos of them, ect. So as I had been making blades for 30+ years and was also tradeing Many blades for mine, or just buying them. This was to test who really made good tough blades. Over 60% of the blades I tested I would Never.! buy for any reason after I put them to the real work. Those just plain old failed. Others would not hold edges, or snap, chunks of the edge stayed in a tree branch ect. So this left about 12-15% of makers I tested, and would buy. Then I had seen so many rev up how good ESEE's were, so I bought 2 to test. I did'nt care about the warrenty (but very impressed they stand behind their work) Well ESEE is standing behind a nuke proof wall..!! These blades are some of the toughest ever made. And the edge holding is getting beyond belief. I have yet to see any blades at what I see as a very very low cost, put others in the dust as well as ESEE has. This is a product you CAN trust your life with.!
I'm more than impressed with what they have done. And back up to boot. This I hope is the future of blade making. Well done. Very well done. For myself I've been cutting chopping and prying for months on mine, and I still have not had to put an edge back on either one of my ESEEs. That speaks for its self. (Jezz I'd like to pick their brains about how they heat treat their 1095.?) I can't make blades myself at this time due to injury, so I'm happy & having fun with owning two ESEE tools. And I doubt I will ever need the warrenty. (OK 3 I have the fire kit as well, and its !st class) OK my 2 cents. enjoy edgy

Perhaps the nice folks at RAT/ESEE were trying to make a name for themselves. If you're not already a big player in a given market, offering a strong warranty sends the signal that you're serious about what you're doing. It seems they've carved out (pun intended) a nice niche for themselves.

(ESEE/formerly RC) knives are built tough. Quality far exceeded my expectations when I got my first -3.

I know I probably won't bust my knives, but knowing that ESEE stands by their knives is just icing on the cake.

I know that my nephew who's on his second deployment into the Ghan has his custom engraved RC-3MIL by his side. And knowing that ESEE will stand by their knives means a lot to me should my nephew bust his -3MIL.

The warranty is why I bought my rc-4. After reading the warranty that said something like " If you cut it in two with a blow torch send it back in and we'll replace it" I was sold. Not sure what my next knife will be yet. If they change up the warranty too much for the hest folder I will probably buy a pink izula. Anyways for me its warranty.

I bought my Junglas and Izula because ESEE knives are bad ass. Most likely, I will never need to use the warranty, and my ESEE purchases were based almost solely on the knife itself. The warranty certainly doesn't hurt, but personally, it's not that important to me.

Offering a warranty like this does say a lot about the company. It's comforting to purchase goods and services from people who really believe in what they do.
