And The Snark Goes On

Just finished making up another small batch of char cloth just for the hell of it. Need to get me a new decent piece of flint... Broke the last piece i had and ended up loosing the pieces.

In the meantime Quartz works as a great replacement for flint in a flint and steel fire.

I've seen this done before. I've never been a fan of the canopies, but some are ok I suppose. I'm always hauling something here or there and I had liked the openness of the bed. This cover is mainly for the trip across country but I'll probably leave it on for a while afterwards. Who knows at this point.

I had one of those hard fiberglass tonneau covers on a chevy S10 years ago when i was around 18-19. I put a mattress in the back with covers and pillows and they always stayed there... Occasionally i would regret it being in there when i wanted to haul something... But most the time i was extremely happy i had it set up the way i did...

The back of that truck seen a lot of action. I was living with some friends at the time and there wasnt always an open bed.. Especially during the weekly parties we were having.... But there was always room for me and another, of the opposite sex, in the back of the love mobile!! And there was the one time in Daytona when 2 females needed a bed for themselves but didnt want to pay for a hotel for just an hour or so... I of course being the gentleman that i am offered the back of my truck.. With the only stipulation of letting me be there to "keep others away" ......which was really just code for watching LMAO

Thanks for the tip man, i have never tried quartz before, i may give that a go just to try it out!!

I have been keeping my eyes open for flint when ever im around river beds and such but havent had any luck finding any. I may need to just go ahead and order some eventually.

Bring your steel with you when you go. Keep trying different rocks to see if they produce sparks. From what I hear any rock with a hardness of 7 or greater will produce sparks. Quartz is just easy for me to find because it stands out.

Peanut butter AND jelly on a slice of bread? Woah! Slow down there, chief. It sounds like you're burning your candle at both ends.

it works better if you put the PB&J on the same side of the bread -- otherwise your fingers get real sticky and if you slather them in the wrong order, the jelly falls on the ground while you put the PB on the clean side.

Much snark to catch up on...may take a day or two.

Update on my mom... She is still in the CICU, but they stopped sedation on Saturday. On Sunday afternoon, they did a trial with no ventilation, but she didn't breathe spontaneously, so they decided that they would try again today. We got a call at midnight that she had woken up enough to extubate (remove the tube) herself... Since she was breathing okay on her own this time, they went ahead and left her off the ventilator. My brother went back to KC on Saturday and I came home to Texas today. Our sister is staying the week and will keep us updated. She's got an MSN and RN, and is running the ICU nurses ragged. At I least the cardiac residents are getting a break from my brother, a pulmonary pediatrician also for 25 years... The prayers are appreciated. She's got a lot of healing to do, but it appears the imminent danger is over. The attending physician told us he gave her a 50-80% chance of dying last Wednesday, but she is relatively stable now.

This is good news. More thoughts and prayers headed her way from Ten-Uh-Sea.

Good idea, will do!!

Rocks are one of those things i never really learned anything about. Hell i could walk past tons of quartz and wouldnt know it if it didnt look like a crystals LOL

Going back to work Monday. Kind of bittersweet. Yes, I wanna work, and yes, I need money. Going back to the same ol' shit hole is what sucks. Oh well, it is what it is.

I did that same thing with my last job, and it was enough to get me looking for another as they had so kindly showed me where the door was....turns out I just needed that motivation to find a different job after nearly 20 years with the same company.....so I gritted my teeth and went back, only to quit a couple months later when the new job was finally landed....if nothing else, it's best to be working while looking for another job. And EVERYONE needs money.

Should I be worried about this late lockup? I don't know a danged thing about framelocks.

Try putting some dry lube like graphite (pencil) on the lock face. That has worked for me in the past.
I would not; it may jam up against the inside of the other scale and be very difficult to release....I have experience in this regard, so....FWIW....
Judging by the photo's I'd say that was a Kershaw product. Their customer service has a really good reputation. You can always call them and ask their opinion if the above advise does not work.
That is not the way it's supposed to look....although it's very unlikely to compromise the locking function, it will be more and more difficult to unlock - which could result in you closing the blade on your thumb. I would NOT lubricate it with anything (see above).
If it is a ZT (clip looks a little more like a BM), you should be able to get it "fluffed and buffed" (and sharpened) for the cost of postage. Benchmade (AFAIK) offers something similar. I think that most manufacturers of knives in the US are pretty decent taking care of their products. Hell, I bought a BM off the exchange that didn't come with a clip (or screws) and the folks at BM gave me a choice of which style I wanted and sent it to me, with screws, gratis. Give the manu a call; I'd bet they'll take care of you.

Got to hang out with granitestateofmind today. He was in Maine on a business trip and we met up for lunch. Nothing special but it was fun. Unfortunately the client called him back to work for a little emergency and ended our fun.

I also picked this pouch up for my Emberlit. $4 and change.

Beat me to it! It was fun to see that part of Maine....although with the drive to Farmington and then home to NH I didn't get home 'til around 8:30 pm. Thanks for taking the time out of your day to meet up with me. Twas fun and nicely broke up the 13 hour work/driving day.

Note to self...

Looks like the nice weather is over for now. Heat warnings out for tomorrow.

speed mounting plate for deer skulls

Oh! Pretty cool looking on its own!!

When i was in Texas i knew a guy that had a badass looking deer skull made of bronze. It was hanging on the wall so when you first walked into his house it was right in your face, hard to forget that thing, it looked awesome but had a touch of creepiness to it LOL

Trying to lay off the junk food and Pepsi. I haven't had any junk food for 3 days now, a haven't had a Pepsi since yesterday. I'm gonna quit smoking cigars as well. I'm not addicted to them, just enjoy it. Gonna smoke my pipe, because it's cheaper. For my health, yes, but also because I want to pay the cabin off as quickly as possible. Adding up all the money I spend on junk food, Pepsi, and cigars is ridiculous.

Outstanding mail call for me today. I am so excited over this knife. 3/16" thick and has some heft. I can't wait for the new ones. This is one bad@$$ kukri.

For me, it's Dunkin' Donuts. My wife doesn't drink coffee (or have any other vices. at all.); we were on a trip (not that) many years ago, and I stopped for a coffee (hey - I'm driving!) when my mathematician of a spouse quickly spits this outrageous $ figure at me and says "you spent that in a year buying coffee?!? I bristled at the suggestion that I was squandering all our money on my morning beverage, did a quick calculation of my own, and decided not to tell her that I also get a breakfast sandwich more times than not. It sounds a whole lot more profligate when you tally it up for the year like that...but compared with what we spend annually on food (this is the only thing she spends $$ on), while not insignificant, is still a single digit percentage.

Anyway, good on ya, Dubz. I'm gonna keep my coffee and breakfast at DD and try to sell some of the large collection of stuff that's currently just occupying space in my life basement.

Good plan bud!! I been making sacrifices over here to pay my land off sooner as well. Every time i think of buying something i know i dont really need i think about how quickly those $5 and $10 dollar purchases add up. I was just looking at ordering some flint rocks a bit ago, but then i thought hell i have several ferrocerium rods here that work plenty fine i dont need to waste the money right now. Ill just look harder when im out and about!!!

Hopefully I'll start losing weight again, but, I start working back at the candy factory, so...

It is hard not to buy, but I've been doing very well at not giving in to impulse buys.

I agree with you guys. I bring lunch everyday to try to save. There are people at my work that buy lunch everyday. How much land or how big is the lot your cabin is on warrior? That truly is awesome.

I gave up pop at the begaining of June and mixing that with cutting back on what I eat I've already lost almost 10 LBS, it really does work
