Another benchmade sprint run!?!?!?!

Just got mine today as well. Absolutely stunning in person, I wasn't sure I was going to like the black blade + carbon but seeing it in person has removed all doubts. Also I thought the clip was going to be silver, but instead it's some kind of gunmetal gray coating.

I've always wanted a gold class Griptilian and in many ways this is comparable, and even better in my opinion in some ways, for about half the price. It's a keeper.

Oh you lucky people, i dont get mine til tomorrow, but im off work tomorrow, so im setting up camp right by my mailbox.. nothing will get past me.. haha

You will love it.

I've been playing with it for the past hour or so and it's just great. Really comparable to my Sage 1, but the black blade looks amazing and while the CF is smooth, it's matte so it's not slick, and the ergonomics of the handle are great (although I have medium hands, for large hands it might be a tad small).

The clip is nice, I usually prefer deep carry clips but this one is so wide and has such a sharp bend at the end that it really hugs the corner of my jeans very well, with the perfect amount of knife exposed to pull it out rapidly.

Deployment is also very smooth, the spydie hole is a almost too close to the handle, but since the handle is milled out you can get a corner of your thumb in alright, and then the opening is so buttery smooth there are no problems opening quickly. Indeed I think it might be as smooth as my Sage 1 or PM2, definitely smoother than the grip/mini grip I own.

100% solid lockup in both directions. It came sharp, but not hair-popping sharp. Still very sharp though, cuts paper easily.

It's so beautiful I want to just keep it protected, but I EDC all my knives so it's going into the rotation starting tomorrow. I'm sure I'll get comments on it as it really is stunning in person.

In the same order I got an M390 710 but I think I may return that one. Apparently there's a silver twill G10 handled m390 710 coming out later this year, and I'd rather have that one.

Just got mine..... 70 out of 500

It is absolutely stunning. I cant even describe it. I never thought my favorite knife would be a benchmade. The black blade goes awesome with the CF and blue stand offs. I always laughed and didnt understand when people talked about not being able to carry a knife because how pretty it was. But now I understand. The quality on this knife is out of this world. I literally cant find a single thing wrong with it, which is rare. Get them while you can boys you wont regret it. and for only $150 get more than one. I can see this going for +$300

spot on ^
I agree with everything drbobguy said. Minor problem was that my pivot screw kept coming undone, so I took it apart, lubed it up, and added some blue loctite and man is this thing buttery. I'm a huge fan. Thumbs up for the price too, this honestly feels a little better than my mini ritter with custom cf scales. I might snag a second one because I like it so much.

Does anyone know what kind of black coating this is? Is it DLC or something else? I'm worried it will scratch off. Benchmade black coatings seem to be the least durable out of them all. Not sure what I can do once the black coating wears off quite a bit to keep the knife looking pretty :)

I'm almost positive it's the BK1 coating cause it looks like my other knives with that coating. I think it will wear pretty noticeably even with light use, although with D2 it at least does serve some purpose. I'm not going to worry about using it, I do think the CF would look great with a polished or satin blade (as opposed to the bead-blasted in the SHOT show version) so once my coating gets banged up real good in a few years I might strip it or get a regrind done.

STOP IT ALL OF YOU!!!! hahaha you are giving me hardcore blade-lust!

I am aware of the buttery smootheness, the shot show one i have is superb. i still cant decide if i want to keep this new one pristine or make it a user, i have always thought the Onslaught would be a good edc for me, and the mini could be my back up...

any thoughts?

Interestingly the box says "SHOT LTD. 2012" so it seems these were probably produced with the satin ones as a batch for shot, maybe these ones were delayed? They were listed in the discount section on the retailer website first, which seemed odd since usually a new knife wouldn't be in that section.

Anyways, the value on this knife is just amazing, I agree this could be a $300 knife and people would still be buying it. As a $150 limited edition it seems like a great buy, even if just as an investment piece in a collection.

I'm tempted to buy another one, but don't have the cash on hand. I'd recommend buying these while they last, especially if like me you've always had an eye on the gold class griptilian.

I was wondering about that too....

So if you go the main page of the retailer, you will see this knife is listed as "Limited" where as other ones are "Retailer Exclusive, limited." That plus the fact that it was in the discount section leads me to suspect Benchmade intended these for SHOT and to give to many retailers, but instead they just offloaded them as a bunch. I could be wrong, maybe we'll see these pop up with other retailers as well.

After hearing all of you guys talk about how nice the C/F onslaught is, tomorrow I will be ordering one along with the Green Ares.

I just got mine.... as others already said it looks amazing. I'm pleasantly surprised that the pocket clip is a nice black chrome and not silver colored. Need to get use to using the axis lock though, I look like a monkey F'ing a football trying to close it.

Oh... 89/500!! :D

Am I the only one who went for the Ares over the Onslaught? :D Anyway, here it is with the satin one. Both are amazing.

Just wondering, after receiving the knife and playing with it.. why isn't the mini onslaught more popular? seems to be a fantastic knife from start to finish.

From reading the reviews online I think many don't like the pocket clip. It works great so far for me. It's right-hand tip-up only, but that's what I would be doing anyways.

The blade spine shape is a little funky, it's very functional but I'm sure many don't like the aesthetics.

Finally the handle is too thick for some people. It seems perfect to me though, given the size of the knife.

Got mine in today as well. Absolutely gorgeous. I really can't believe this only cost 140$. Number 80# arrived with perfect centering, brick shit-house lock up, near hair-whittling sharpness (going to strop tonight and see what I can pull), and the aesthetics are absolutely gorgeous. This knife just looks bad ass.

So far really loving my 1st Benchmade :)

I'm with ya on the Ares man. I'll probably skip the black and green one, but I'm absolutely loving my satin m390 version.

I went with the original plan and took off the pocket clip, and then put the three screws back on. Looks and feels great. I can't stand the finger print smudges and there is no way I'm clipping that to my pants with that fat shiny clip blinding everybody. Looks like it'll ride nicely inside the pocket.
