Another off topic subject

Actually, most of the health care costs in this country are spent as diminishing returns on the elderly, in pursuit of "quality of life." People just used to die when their time was up, and they certainly didn't get a titanium hip replacement at 80.

The average life span has shot up more than a decade since the 1930s. With the advances in surgical techniques, cardiology, pharmaceuticals, and things like chemotherapy and dialysis, that last decade or more has become freaking expensive.

We need to start putting these old folks to death earlier! Save on health care and social security! :D

And in answer to a question that was raised, I mean we should turn off ALL welfare, regardless if you are an immigrant or not. Charity is best left to the private sector, churches, etc.

All i know is that i pay for my healthcare and i pay for ss and when the time comes for me to retire the government has openly said that there will be nothing there for me....So at 34 i know that i have to foot the bill for the people drawing on the system now and i have to find some way to put enough up for my future or just work til i am dead and never retire.....IT Sucks but all I can do is plan for it and not expect there to be any thing for my golden years except what i put up.

Any one expecting the gov. to take care of you are sadly mistaking because there will be nothing left when you get there so only rely on yourselves.

Otherwise, they just keep taking with no thought of who is paying for it.

that's EXACTLY what people are doing!

One way to lower the cost of health care would be to not allow the frivilous lawsuits that happen every day.

I have until Kaela is 21 to sue my ob/gyn since she was born w/ Down syndrome. Even though there is NOTHING he could have done to prevent it.

seriously........you can put a dog down when they're sick why can't you put a person down when they want to die?

True. People also used to commit suicide rather than go through surgery because there weren't anesthetics back then and they held u down while they cut you open. Now people have cosmetic surgery all the time :barf:

tony dobbs, that's rough that you're paying 600 a month...i think some people live off of a $600 a month welfare check >.<

@ the Dr. Kevorkian stuff: In the days of the Romans, when someone wanted to die, they told their doctor who would prescribe them poison.
-now days, if you tell your doctor you want to die, you're put in the loony bin with a bunch of crack-heads (makes u want to live even more, right?)

Yeah, the whole issue is complicated and there are many things which drive healthcare costs to astronomical levels.

I think that's another thing that's coming in the Obama health care reform plan. Not euthanasia, but cutting back on things that keep the elderly goin' like the Energizer Bunny.

More of the CHANGE that was promised.

In Oregon, all you need are two requests made of your attending physician, two witnesses with nothing to gain to sign off that you really want to die, and two concurring physicians to sign off that you are terminal and not crazy and then you can have someone help you off yourself legally via prescription barbiturate overdose.

http://www.oregon.gov/DHS/ph/pas/faqs.shtml#whocan

I voted for this act twice (it was targeted for repeal by pro-life forces) because it shouldn't be against the law to check out if you wish to, even if you require someone to give you the glass of water that makes it possible to overdose yourself.

Barbiturate overdoes seems like it's not the easiest way to go. But then again I don't know about these things except the ODs I worked when I was a cop. Didn't seem pretty and peaceful to me. I like the lethal injection method, so if I ever decide I'm want to die then I'm going to do something really bad that qualifies for the death penalty. One of those Hannibal Lecter stunts or similar :D

:D Death Row is another form of welfare ... with limited benefits...

WTF! This post is called another off topic thread and it is ACTUALLY ON topic.
Disappointing...Where is the flesh and barely clothed hot chicks! To ARMS, I mean... Damnit Boats, your slackn.

Now...I know this may seem crass, but Im a fairly direct person and dont mind talking about inflammatory topics.

When the baby-boomers, die off next 15-20yrs, think that will cause the prices in medical care to drop as the drin on resources will be relieved? Or do you think they will stay static/increase as population growth has rendered that moot?

I know I don't look forward to retirement here in 2-3 years from the military and have to enter the whole medical care/insurance market. Though I will have retirement benefits I will still have to supplement. It is definately getting rediculous.

Though...I cant wait to get back to Texas.
