Guys what I should do? I've sold a knife on ebay - shipped it and buyers claimed with paypal there were a cheap plastic "something" instead a knife.
I've pictured knife, pouch and safe envelope it was shipped in, weight on pictures matches wuth weight post office stamped on package.
Buyers probably had a plan from begining to scam me, because safe plastic envelope is not possible to open without damage - if damaged post office do not give it ti adresee..
Is there possibility which maximize I have my money back - it is freezed on paypal account now....

If you did everything you told us, here(pictures, weight, shipping weight, etc...) you should not have a problem. Remain calm. Respond to the claim, promptly. Ask what you need to do to avoid the loss. This is a common scam, because it is difficult for the seller to prove that they sent the item that they pictured... but it seems as though you did everything properly.

I trust that everything went through on ebay as normal? You didn't do any dealings behind the scenes that break the rules? Did you insure the shipped item?

I don't think the buyer is counting on you having covered your rear with pics, weights and tamper-proof envelopes. That is your leverage... well done.

I just want to chime in and say if people would just stick to the rules and use PayPal Goods and Services you would see a whole lot less threads of people being ripped off. But people want to save money however they can. Good day and good thread I hope more people read this.

Hi Rick - thanks. Yes everything were done throught ebay. YEs I unsured item. But I was on my post office to start an investigation and they said they cannot do nothing at all - buyer has to fill claim with post office to fill insurance. It is sick I think.
But if buyer is a scammer he will not do nothing with his post office - he just filled a claim with paypal.
I hope Paypal is smart enough and will say buyer he must to start in his post office.

Laurin... I don't think the post office has anything to do with it, really. You said they won't even deliver it if the package has been tampered with. I can't see any post office thief taking the time to replace the knife with a plastic one. Keep in contact with PP and put forth your evidence.

Is it ok to say again that sellers who ask for more than 2.9% + $.30 in PP fees should be horsewhipped? If you want to charge for shipping, do it. If you want to get more money for the knife, put it in your price. Don't lie about PP fees.

You can say it again, but you're still wrong.

First because your math is off. Say a knife is priced at $100, by your logic, you would send the seller $103.20 (100.00 + 2.90 + .30). PayPal will then deduct 2.9%, or $2.99, plus $.30, so the seller will only receive $99.91, not $100.

More importantly because your "cost" for anything is the total amount it takes to get it into your hands. So, if that knife is not worth $100 plus whatever the seller is tacking on to cover PayPal to you, then don't buy it. I can't imagine a few cents extra on a $100 knife, or a couple dollars extra on a $1000 one, being a deal breaker but, as with most things in life, I realize others may not agree.

Do I wish every seller here would list knives with a price that included everything? Hell yes. Do I think that will ever happen? Hell no. Do that bother me? Not in the least. I was pretty good at arithmetic in school, and it's one of the few subjects where what I learned 60+ years ago is still true today, so calculating selling price plus 3.5%, or whatever, is no big deal. If the total is more than I think the knife worth, I follow the advice I gave above and just walk away.

Deacon has it. One price, no add-ons or shipping costs to calculate.

Stipulate that the price includes regular/domestic and any int'l/overseas shipping will be extra... that's it!

It is up to you to include PP fees into your bottom line but the customer(or PP) should never see it. Some sellers think that breaking down the price will help show the customer where their money is being spent. I believe it only shows potential customer where NOT to spend their money.

That said, in many states and provinces, you have to show the applicable taxes on a separate line. For me, that happens so few and far between that I just work the numbers in reverse to make the invoice match. Revenue Canada doesn't care as long as they get their share.

Mine is 2.9% + .30 for orders in Canada.... and approx 3.7% for US orders (it all depends on the exchange rate)

Worth every penny, so far!

What are they, and why?

I do more than $10,000 a month through PayPal so the basic rate is about 2.2%. But that rate is no good on Virtual terminal, or pro payments not through the standard checkout on my website. Those rates are higher than 2.9% even at my volume because they are subject to other fees depending on the type of card used (Amex, reward cards, etc...). It also depends on what country you are operating out of, and what country the currency being used to pay you originates from as there are fees to convert currency.

Here are the new rates:

Paypal just wrote me info that buyer shipped item to me.
What should I do? If he shipped me that cheap crap - what I think he did - should I accept it? Or not pick it up?
Help please...

Have an opening party. Invite a minister, priest, nun, or cop, etc. Take video of opening with witnesses included in footage (old term for digital record). That leaves one less factual issue to contest.

If you refuse it, bad guy can claim anything was in the package,

Respond to paypal and let them know that you suspect that they are not sending back your original item and what your options are if it happens. Did the buyer know that you took note of the shipping weight? The best thing you can do is stay in contact with Paypal and do NOT accept any sort of middle ground. You are in the right and they are using paypal to commit theft.

No buyer do not know about weight probably. We both communicate with paypal representative and not with each other because he took it to claim without chance to respond from my side.
OK I will take video when unpacking it.
But there is - on claim paypal page - only option "confirm receiving package" - is there possibility to add video or respond from my side?

Hello guys,

seems my first claim with ebay thief is done in my bad. Paypal sent him my money and now I'm without knife and money.
Interesting is also fact, that they was very quick with refund - he sent my "knife" back - and I'm sure it is that crap - and paypal stole my money before it even been delivered!!!
Check this link with his package - https://track.trackingmore.com/laposte/en-CC724192216FR.html?

This was not returned to sender, but will be delivering tomorrow and I'm sure no Nirvana inside. Courrier called me but was at my work. Paypal is on the thief side.

I maybe found his nickname and picture - http://deacon83.skyrock.com/profil/photos/1/6

He seems has two ebay accounts - choco2-cookie with crewed me and second with more feedback - hulk84alinepascal - with this he contacted me first and offer transaction outside of ebay with lower price, what I've declined.

Every help will be appreciated. I do not recommend to deal with this individual.

Tomorrow I'll make a video with unpacking his returned item. I think I'll be surprised.

Not sure what are my possibilities now. Since I insured item it was only threw money out of window - my post office told me buyer (adressee) has to fill claim when he is delivering damaged package.. He for sure didn't do this - he filled claim the same day without even contacted me.
His fraud was planned for sure.

I tend to believe your story, but imagine if you are a buyer who truly receives junk from a thief seller.
What would you want done? My guess is exactly what was done for him.

PayPal is caught in the middle and really have only three choices, side with the buyer, take no sides (same as siding with the seller, see below), or refund the buyer themselves and let the seller keep the money (which they do all the time depending on who the seller is).
I think PayPal could just as easily take no side and say to both parties "We paid the seller to mail a package to the buyer, and the seller has proof that a package was delivered. If there are any issues beyond this work it out among yourselves however you see fit", people would view that as siding with the seller. PayPal knows if they want people to keep using them, they have to side with the buyer in these situations.

Ultimately you can never sell anything in complete confidence unless you get paid in cash before you ship. Do not sell/trade anything you can't afford to lose to someone you don't know using anything other than cash on the barrelhead.

Does your buyer trade here on Bladeforums? if so you should relay your story in the feedback forum if you haven't already. Might be other people who recognize some of the details of this guy and maybe someone else will be spared from his deceit.
