Any Adamas lovers?

Why da fu&k would you want "tip down" carry? :thumbdn:

his personal preference... dont hate. i know several folks who prefer tip down over tip up. it all depends on how many knives you own in either configuration cause you just get used to it. i personally feel some knives deploy quicker and more naturally tip down and drawn from the pocket with a index finger and thumb pinch grip. he does have a point though, i wish benchmade would drill and tap more of their knives for left, right, tip up and down carry like spyderco does.

Not hating, just wondering WHAT kind of draw would "tip down" be conducive to, honest question

DING! DING! DING! you said it all sir. More versatile would be nice. And I agree on the deployment, I can be a lot faster tip down, but I carry both tip up and down. I don't mind either

pinch grip with index finger and thumb, naturally on some knives it indexes your thumb directly onto the thumbstud to flick open as the handle clears the pocket and the remaining fingers grasp to secure the grip... its amazingly fast, try it and you may even like it. for me personally, my hogue ex01 and combative edge sr11 deploy much faster and comfortably in this fashion tip down. knives that have a deployment hole also benefit from being carried tip down as it allows you to quickly "spydie drop" the knife open once it clears the pocket. lastly, some knives are terribly long and/or suffer poor clip placement requiring you to reposition your grip to deploy your knife when drawing from tip up. for me the spyderco laci szabo and benchmade bedlam suffer from this. ironically, both these knives are designed for self defense/combative use hah. i personally feel knives that greatly benefit from tip up are flippers as it allows you to index your index finger onto the flipper tang or close to it when drawing the knife. the reality is most folders require you to reposition/adjust your grip before or after deploying so it all really boils down to training/muscle memory as far as speed is concerned. to each their own, its good to have options :).

THE most solid BM knife I've ever held.
I plan on getting a combo edge to keep in the BOB.

I don't like coated blades but if they would release one with a satin finish blade I would order one up.

I bought the Adamas as a possible replacement for my 610 Rukus as a pocketable 'bushcraft' knife. Here they are for comparison:

008-2.jpg

They are similar, with the following stated spec's: (610/275)
Blade Metal: S30V(58-60 Rc)/D2(60-62 Rc)
Blade length: 4.25"/3.82"
Blade Thickness: 0.150"/0.160"
OAL (Open-closed): 10.20" - 5.95"/8.70" - 4.88"
Handle thickness: 0.79"/0.73"
Weight: 7.86 oz/7.68 oz

In use, the Rukus's spear point helps it drill - or, perhaps, to be used as a spear if lashed to a pole. I always think of this as a bad idea... you'd be jabbing or throwing your one knife - yikes! The Adamas' drop point design is pretty universal. I am more accustomed to the grip and blade jimping of the Rukus - but I haven't noticed any 'hot spots' in the Adamas' grip. The clips were easily removed from both of them and stowed in their boxes, like I do with all of my pocket knives. Large knives, like these, are carried in a back pocket. My uncoated D2 bladed 710, gifted to me by my wife one summer day while we were vacationing at Gulf Shores, AL (Ah, the good old days!), became speckled with rust from just a couple of days of pocket carry. I have had great results with S30V - especially from Benchmade and Buck. The Adamas is a keeper - mainly because the Rukus family was canned a few years ago - and I want to 'save' my Rukus. Thus far, the Adamas has been a good replacement for the Rukus - and, despite some use, has remained sharp.

Tip down is the only way to carry back pocket IMHO.

Carrying tip up in the front pocket makes sense if the knife isn't too big. You can reach your hand all the way in and basically have your hand in the correct position as you draw the knife.

Try doing that in you back pocket or with a huge knife...

When you carry tip down in the back pocket you draw by pinching the top of the knife and start extracting it. When it gets about halfway out of your pocket start moving your hand back down. The motion is an upside down U. By doing this the bottom of the knife hangs back in the pocket and it rotates right into your hand in the correct position and ready to deploy.

Give it a try, you might like it!

I really want to see one of these irl. From pics the blade to handle ratio looks off (sometimes?) and it kind of reminds me of a cheap s&w that I bought years ago. I'm sure the cheap knife was made to ape the designs of heavy duty folders like this of course, and uses far inferior materials and f&f.

I just want to contribute here so here goes.
I like tip down when carrying above the waist belt.
Carry below the waist a tip up deploys quicker for me.

BM 275 Adamas is the best hard use folder on the market right now, imo. At its price point, it out performs everything else out there (ZT/Spyderco/Strider). The only knife that comes close to matching the Adamas at a reasonable price point is the CS Voyager series, but BM's D2 steel is light years beyond AUS-8.

Another Adamas fan here.

When I want a fixed blade sized knife but want to carry a folder, it's the Adamas for me. I like the blade shape and handle for messing around in the woods. And then there is the benchmade quality too.

I would buy that blue scaled version in a hurry if it were possible.
And of course tip-down carry is better ;-) Simple physics.
