Yes I just did. Thanks!
It seems they are affordable priced for the build.

Everyone likes something a little different...

I actually dislike Dark Ops - they are a little too "tacticool" for my personal taste and personal uses. Similarly, people turned off to the aesthetics of a Strider look to custom makers to provide a complete alternative.

It looks like Strider has a lock on a large part of the super strong tactical knife. I know I sent you to the Dark Ops site, but if you're looking for a strong folder, I'd actually suggest that you consider the following knives before dark ops:

Have you seen the new Chris Reeve offering? It's called the umnumzaan, and may fit your needs.

If you like Strider style, but are looking for something different, check out the Zero Tolerance line from Kershaw. Fantastic knives that are a great value. If you like Kershaw and assisted opening, there is a new G-10 Tyrade out that is remarkably priced and worth considering.

You can't go wrong with a Spyderco military either...

I realize that these knives are much more production than they are custom, so they may not be the end of your quest. However, they may give you a better starting point as you realize what traits you like/dislike in a knife.

A few other things to keep in mind:

There is a for sale forum here, for folding knives, made my custom makers:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=753

Many of these knives are slipjoints, but many may fit the bill you're looking for. If you like a maker, but don't see something that's perfect....email him/her and talk about what you want.

The other thing to keep in mind is that the Blade show is coming....soon...and you're in Georgia. THAT is your answer!

Best of luck during the search.

Hey thanks again.

I have the Zero Tolerance 302 and several Militarys. Never quite warmed up to Chris Reeve knifes even though I have some [JMO so no more flames please]. I also perouse the custom forum quite often.

I am not a complete newb to knives. Bought my first custom in 1981 and always had lots of production knifes way before. I just wanted to know if there were alternatives by custom makers to the Strider folders...

And oh yes, I am near Atlanta, so i will be at the Blade show again this year.

Wow, now I'm a sig line.

That's a clear indication of the thread.

Hard use knives are a minor subject in the custom lines available - whether enthusiasts like it or not. Most makers sell to well heeled buyers who prefer pocket art - not high speed low drag tacticool that risks inherent loss in the field. Few can really afford to lose a $450 knife out camping. It's a real and limiting factor; plus, many tacticool collectors are less than capable of making it through boot camp, if their posts are any indication. It definitely tinges the image of who they might be - and that is fodder for the anti-military sentiments of some.

Recommending Dark Ops is a serious diss, regardless of their actual fit and finish. Repetitively answering various comments looks defensive, and then others pile on, making an OP look worse when they'd be better off ignoring it.

Reply in the third person, eliminate the word "you" in a response, and most people still get the point - but it keeps the thread polite.

That sig line better get changed quickly if you wish to remain here.

Warnings and infractions have been issued.

Next step is to ban.

This childish and arrogant behavior will not be tolerated any longer.
