Any Winkler fans?

I'd be a Winkler "fan" and owner as they are beautifully executed knives and I'm sure the 80crv2 is well done but I ain't paying the prices they are here in the UK - almost double in some cases to US prices.

Shame as I'd love one.

My first winkler. I picked this one up from a guy in NC.

I am new to knifes like this. I always carried a kershaw off the snap-on truck. I always let some guy at local gun show sharpen it. Winkler website says do not use mechanical sharpeners. What do you all recommend.

I've used a KME sharpener with my Winklers and it works great, as it does on every other knife I've used it with. But I usually just try to maintain the edge with regular stropping/compound.

In celebration of today's release of the latest edition in the Jack Carr "Terminal List" series, I'm carrying this one:

TYPO!

I would choose a Carothers Performance Knife DEK3 and a Winkler Highland Hatchet.

It’s a modern Kephart and Colclessor Tomahawk combo with far superior steel and hardening. Google the history. It’s a fascinating glimpse into the past with Horace Kephart. With a good hatchet you can build a shelter and a fire. The knife serves most other needs.

Thank you Marchone for recommending that option.

I doubt any option will fail me and the people that I am looking out far.

I saw that Winkler was now making folders. Anyone try those out? Your thoughts on them?

I immediately thought that Opinel had a competitor...

I think the folders are all past run.. I hope I'm mistaken though

Winkler makes a model called the "DEK3?"

Correct. I don't believe they've offered a folder for several years.
