Any Winkler fans?

Mostly horizontal over left pocket, crossdraw

For some time, I carried it vertical, with an Armatus dangler system, but I found it to be too stiff. Maybe a KSF leather backing would work better..

I’ve never carried it behind my back, because I find resheathing to be a pain…
Thank you! That honestly looks like the best option by far, nice and accessible and easy to put back. I like the idea of scout carry, but I agree, it’s a pain to research.
Thank you for taking the time to reply :)

Listed a combat axe over on the X if any of you guys were looking. Hope I'm not violating any rules just giving you folks a heads up :) .. here's a past beauty belt knife in 3v I should have never let go !!View attachment 2256321
You’re good, per forum rules you can list your exchange offerings in your signature if you like, just don’t make it a billboard.

Hi Guys, my first Winkler, the crusher belt knife should be delivered tomorrow. I’ve been watching some reviews and going through the pictures on here, no one seems to show how they carry their Winklers, just wondering if anyone has any on hip shots or carry recommendations? :)
I have added a Sagewood Gear leather loop to several of my Winkler sheaths and like to carry them that way as a belt knife.

It’s been about a year since I first brought out my winkler woodsman. It’s looking a bit worse for wear these days- being outside in the rain these last two weeks sure didn’t help but it makes for a great heavy duty knife out in the field.

In hindsight, I probably would’ve gone for regular round handles. Even though the WASP micarta looks great, winkler handles tend to already be thin and the sculpted handles can hurt if you’re pushing down hard on them in a way that doesn’t happen with the rounded handles on my BRH.

Despite its thickness as I’ve preached before in this thread, a ~15 DPS or lower edge is incredibly stable on this knife and turns it into a pretty good slicer for its thickness. I’ve accidentally smacked steel plates while cutting with this knife and didn’t see any chipping or rolling in the edge.

I also really appreciate the pommel, I’ve found myself having to hammer all these little pins and parts while I’m doing my job and it’s convenient to be able to use the pommel of my knife instead of my leatherman to lightly hammer out some rusted bolt or plug without having to carry a dedicated hammer.

If that bevel is 15 deg or below, you were lucky and got a sample with a thin grind! I used the 18 deg setting for my belt knife on my Edge pro, which because of the height of the knife maybe equals 15-17 degrees, and my bevels are a lot wider than yours!

I wish I could see your pic, but I agree with your assessment. The Woodsman has quickly become one of my favorite Winklers (along with the Operator). I'm surprised at how 'slicey' mine is as well.

It's just the perspective of the picture, the spine of the knife is tilted slightly to the camera; the bevel looks taller if you're viewing exactly perpendicular to the knife. I measured once on a caliper and the knife was around 0.2 inches thick, the height of the primary bevel you're talking about is about 3/16 of an inch. Also granted, I only free hand sharpen so those degree measurements I quoted may not be exact.

I am so lucky i live an hour south of the Winkler factory and their i think new this year or late last year retail store.
I bought my first WK in Boone at a famous Mast General store and chose a Blue Ridge Hunter with the sculpted maple scales. Funny I didn’t go there to buy a WK originally and knew very little about the company.
Since then i hooked up with the factory and ordered a beautiful field knife with black micarta
and opted for an additional sheath in brown. I find the brown sheath and black handle are a very nice contrast. I think i waited 2-3 months but it was worth the wait.
When the retail store opened i drove to the store and after great consideration i picked up a Wild Bill axe in a redish brown micarta. Once again a stunner. I liked the wild bill as the straighter handle enables a flip and use of the spike an easier task.

So this week I got the BMW out and went for a nice ride. Stopped at the Winkler store and Bruce helped me pick out a nice SD2 with nice brown micarta/laminate scales and the texture is amazing. Actually the choice wasn’t that hard as they only had the one! Lol.
I too have started carrying fixed in front right pocket or rear pocket when front pocket is occupied.
I might add the ride is a beautiful one culminating in a very windy undulating 86 curves of thrilling tree covered blacktop. Shule’s Mills road.
A few days go by and i get a call. More SD2’s arrived and my intent of getting both sons one for Christmas as my goal so I cruise up the mountain again this time in my Go Kart er-a-I mean Mini Cooper. And another SD1 and a impulse buy of a Huntsman in maple.
Warning they have a new model and for the life of me I can’t remember the name.
Great time and I will echo the fact that Daniel Winkler is a very likable individual as are his wife and Kaela that I had met at the factory when i got my field knife. All of his staff i have dealt with are very friendly and knowledgeable people and I look forward to doing business with them again.
Pictures forthcoming.

Someone mentioned a folder in this thread. I bought my axe in November and they showed me a Winkler folder. I found a picture of it on the counter i had to blow up. You can see the clip and it was very nice but only the axe was in the budget.

As i recall it was a limited run.
I had the opportunity to handle one at the show today, really nice. I may have to stretch the budget and buy it tomorrow.

Ahh very nice. So they are still out there but I’m guessing not being produced anymore.
Please post some pictures if you get it. If you don’t buy it but can still get us a pic or two that would be nice too?
