I’ve had many, many, many winklers
I almost don’t wanna think about it because i live in Australia, our resale market is terrible, and im kind of a minimalist constantly trying to cut down my collection / users to the bare minimum combined with the total contradictory habit of constantly buying knives, so I’ve lost more money that i want to think about… but winkler have been my go to fixed blades for like 5 years now, I wrote a little review on the blue ridge hunter for issue one of an Australian knife magazine because it was all i carried for a good 2 years (for some reason i bought about 8 of them though instead of just being happy with the one like a reasonable person)
All I have left now are an sd1 and a couple sd2s
And with all love and respect to winkler, ive had well over 50 of them, I just don’t think I’ll buy anymore without getting to the states and seeing the exact knife first, i just can’t be bothered with having to spend hours on the edge when they show up - these both came completely unable to cut ANYTHING and those wide ass bevels they now have are 22 degrees per side which is still too thick but I don’t have the patience to deal with lowering anymore for now - seriously, why use one of the toughest steels around then not take advantage of that by grinding it to cut ok? I’m not saying grind it like an opinel, but grinding a little 7” oal knife like you would the combat axe is ridiculous… it isn’t as noticeable of a problem on a belt knife for example but i always go for smaller now
But despite saying all that , it’s still mostly love from me
I regret getting rid of a few, a maple belt knife with the old style messy square transition from handle to blade, a maple sayoc just because I’ve hit a point where i need to be more responsible with my money and can’t justify buying another one, one particular combat axe that was perfect (had a couple shockers of those too, ground like hammers, but one particular one was amazing and i used it a lot in the woods) and a couple blue ridges with the original protruding tang, I really liked that!
