I would LOVE to have this done but unfortunately it's for a gift and I will not have time to order through Winkler. The dealers have a nice selection right now but I wouldn't be able to get a custom grind.I would recommend having Winkler reprofile the edge to 15 DPS, 30 inclusive. It widens the bevel a bit but makes it much better at slicing. I believe that is the same edge profile that Daniel carries.
Yes, based on the email I received even accessing emails was delayed for a bitE enigmaedge if you take S Skidoosh advice be aware that Winklers shop flooded because of hurricane Helene, Daniel posted on FB that they are looking at a 3 to 4 week cleanup.
I would gift him the knife and send it in after the shop recovers.I would LOVE to have this done but unfortunately it's for a gift for my father's retirement at the end of the year and I will not have time to order through Winkler. The dealers have a nice selection right now but I wouldn't be able to get a custom grind, which has led me back to trying to figure out which style arrives "slicier". He goes for tactical blades over bushcraft which makes me think the drop point crusher but when I asked Winkler directly they recommended the BRH saying it's thinner stock but their website has both listed at 3/16 width so again I'm confused if there's something about it that in practice makes it seem thinner. For reference he mostly uses his knives for cutting paper for enjoyment, a superthick blade that tears would probably not serve him best. I know the Operator is thinner but I've never seen him drawn toward a "stabby" shape before.
Sorry if any of this comes off as ignorant, I'm just the daughter of a knife lover.
It is. I like that one too. Of those the one I use the most is the huntsman and black scaled sd2Is the 2nd one from the top a Forest Edge?

Damn!Yes, based on the email I received even accessing emails was delayed for a bitHope the shop recovers well.
Very interesting update here, I contacted the shop about this and they said they cannot change the blade profile or design as production is no longer set up for one off custom pieces in this manner. It's extremely understandable certainly, I wonder if it will return when the shop recovers.I would gift him the knife and send it in after the shop recovers.
Just buy what you like, then have it sent to any one of the capable makers here for reprofiling.....Very interesting update here, I contacted the shop about this and they said they cannot change the blade profile or design as production is no longer set up for one off custom pieces in this manner. I'm advised the SD1 and SD2 are the thinnest blades they're currently making, does anyone who has one and the BRH or drop point crusher have an opinion between them?
Some of my rare Winklers. I feel lucky that I got the Knight Combat Bowie and Sayoc Bontoc as they are some of my favorites out of any of my knives
Excellent photography too! Finally the stars aligned and this SD2 arrived on monday; the brown sculpted laminate is nice.
Does anyone have pictures from inside Winkler Actual of knives on display? I am looking for display ideas that will pay homage to the brand. We had a weeklong trip scheduled to Ashville a few days before the hurricane and had planned a day trip to Boone. My small collection has grown to the point that it is now time to figure out how I want them displayed. (not in a safe)![]()
