Any Winkler fans?

More info on the leather backer. Its a #2 backer. The hole pattern spacing for the crusher belt knife is the same as an esee 3/4 so anything that fits them should also work. If you measure the whole spacing you might be able to match it with another backer. Architect knives still shows the backer on their site, not sure if they split from the knife connection or not?

I am crazy enough to have the Winkler and Dynamis Alliance version. 😳
They are both Winkler Dynamis, no? The leather wrapped one was the first version (I have this version).

The second variant came from the high demand after the first version sold out for a bit? At least that is my understanding.

I have the DE dagger, headlamp, & shooting gloves from DA. Good stuff. Perhaps a bit overpriced imo but still high quality gear.

I believe Don Raso came up with the design so yes you’re correct. The Winkler leather wrap version is 80CRV2 while the other one from Dynamis is S7 with their updated sheath system.

Gotcha. How is the updated sheath system compared to the og sheath? The combat flathead is one of the most versatile & useful tools I own.

The Winkler is low profile and carries deep in the pocket which is unobtrusive. The Dynamis is the same sheath system as their fixed blades with the Tracker Dan style clip. It is set up for a full grip draw too unlike the Winkler. You can’t go wrong with either in my opinion but I do carry the Dynamis daily as the Winkler is irreplaceable.

I am planning to purchase a Winkler Operator and I’m having trouble deciding between smooth or sculpted laminate handles. For those of you who own smooth handled versions, do you find there is plenty of grip or is it lacking? I would be less concerned if there was slightly more guard. Thanks for your help!

Personally, I like the feel and look of the sculpted handles, but my Operator is smooth maple and I find it plenty grippy. Winkler does not polish or varnish their wood handles, so they aren't super smooth or slippery.

I find the smooth micarta handle on the operator to be great. I don't believe it will slip from my hand. It also has amazing balance in terms of how the knife handles in your hand.

My SD2 (basically a short Operator lol) is the Tan Micarta and it’s plenty grippy. I’m told it gets grippier when wet but i have not tested that theory.
My first ever Winkler was/is a Sculpted Maple Blue Ridge Hunter that i like but after owning other Winklers with smooth handles of various materials i wish i had chosen the smoother design. Jmho.

My top pick for my next Winkler is an Operator.
Knife purchases are now limited but i will allow 1 Winkler a year(minimum). 2nd choice? Well several are neck and neck, basically any model i don’t already own. What’s your choice?

Off topic but reminded by your profile…Burn Notice was an amazing show. One of my favorite all-time.

Had it been an HBO, Max, or Showtime show instead of USA…I think it would have been an all-time great.

Since they are bringing back everything nowadays…I’ve been hoping they would bring Burn Notice back. Unfortunately though, Bruce Campbell was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Also, I’m aware your profile pic is Jeffrey Donovan from Sicario not Burn Notice…still made me go straight to Burn Notice.

Steve really deserves his own spinoff. 👍

Hey, New to the site. Been checking it out for some time now and finally decided to join in. Big fan of Winkler myself! Lots of nice blades shown here! I can add.
Welcome. Nice to see the operator and the little Operator/SD2 lol side by side. Next time i’m up at Winkler Actual i will be bringing my SD2 and comparing it to the operator. Or heck just compare the ones they have there lol.
Really like the newer sheath they are using for the SD2’s and tempted to get another SD2 just so i have that carry option. Still the operator is first choice.
What is the bigger knife?

Thank you. The big one is the survival striker, has a hollowed out tang with ferro rod and steel wool inside. You should be able to order the leather sheath direct from winkler. That style of sheath is universal to the model of knife it’s designed for and not individually made to each knife like the other designs. But that’s what I did haha, bought another.

I had ordered a Field Knife long before the Actual store was opened and because the handle was Black Laminate it came with a black leather sheath. I wanted Brown leather but had to order the additional sheath to make that happen. Think it added $80 to the order but totally worth it.
I set the brown sheath up with a dangler attachment and the black is if i want to use it clipped to a belt as designed. I’ll get some pictures up later.
