Anybody Get a Good Tactile Knife Co. Maverick Yet?

I was about to say the same thing…It’s not something I try to do with my knives, but many will. I actually dropped my Hinderer Eklipse last week and it popped open (messed up my new edge in the process 😣). And that thing has a pretty heavy detent. The clip Doc posted doesn’t make it look TOO bad, like some older knives that run on washers. Blade play drives me crazy tho

Red CF is awesome! I have a “Lava Flow” PM2 and it’s beautiful, 👍 good choice
Yeah, if the lock was that bad, I wouldn’t be looking at more 😜

I caved and bought jungle wear too…

I’ve got a lot of benchmades, the only one that won’t flick open like this is a brand new 535-3 that badly needs to be cleaned and broken in. Kizer escorts and Kunwu x-Taos will open with less effort than my mavericks. TRM shadow, James brand Kline, shiro tabargan…they all do it.
I haven't tried them in a while, but when I get them I do try to wrist flick them open. Maybe after break-in it's different. I wont say it's impossible.

I really want to get one in Jungle Wear Carbon Fiber, but I’m really on the fence, between the things I’ve heard about the action/lockup and I’m also worried it’s gonna be handle heavy, I really hat handle heavy knives! I kinda feel like I need to handle one before pulling the trigger.
Plus I really want a textured Ti AD20.5 in 3V, so for now it’s one or the other, lol.

Just like the subject asks, who's got a good one?
The reviews are less than glowing for this knife.
Too bad cuz I love the design.
Just received mine today, direct from Tactile, and I have to say I was a bit disappointed. With all the hype from blade show Texas to metal complex to many many more, I was pretty sure I had to have one. Unfortunately, now that it's in my hand I can feel too distinct areas of a grinding sound, both when I open it and also when I close it.
I saw so many reviews that showed the knife being held in a horizontal position the button lock being engaged and the knife Point falling straight down. Mine does not budge a millimeter when I pull the button release. I actually have a lot of problems with this knife from pivot to grip to everything else.
Part of me says to oil it and try to break it in and part of me says put it in back in the box and to put it in the back bottom of the bottom drawer and I'll probably never pocket it a single time. I actually feel like it was a bait and switch, that this couldn't possibly be the knife that everyone is talking about. I mean how could it be.
I'm not sure what to do with it...

Not passing any judgement yet but so far the average or yield isn't looking stellar. Some knife companies can really knock it out of the park when they first hit the scene. Unfortunately, this has been somewhat of a rough start for Tactile in terms of QC. I have a Rockwell that didn't come very sharp and had a roll. Other than that I really like the knife BUT I paid over $400 for my special edition version. So I was a little butt hurt over a dulled blade with its micro rolls. The fat carbon fiber Mavericks piqued my interest early on, the feeling has washed away though and now I'm left on the fence after this read.

I'm not sure what to do with it...

If you are fond of the knife but feel you have QC issues, contact Tactile and see what they can, or can’t, do for you.

If you don’t like the knife, Tactile has a return policy. IIRC there’s a restocking fee, but IMO it’s better to be out of $20 than it is to have a knife you know you’ll never use at the bottom of a drawer.

I wound up returning my (well executed) G10 Maverick. It didn’t appeal enough to me to compete for pocket time with stuff I already own.

That all sounds good but I have some issue with returns I don't know if it has a name but it's like pulling my own teeth or something I just hate doing it

I have a titanium scale version from when they were first released that is perfect except for up down blade play. Just purchased a new G10 version after receiving an email from Tactile Knife stating "Everything seemed to be going well so we set a launch date and, long story short, the first few batches had some duds. Since then, we dialed in the parts and adjusted our design-to-production process by adding more time for QC test runs and raising the bar on what's "ready" for release.". New G10 version has no up and down blade play. Bit of side to side, but slightly tightening the pivot screw removed that. So what changed? All in tolerances I think.

measurements in inches, old Ti, new G10

blade thickness .0950, .0950
blade pivot hole diameter .1905, .1880
pivot diameter .1865, .1880
liner pivot hole diameter .1905, .1880
lockbar diameter .1535, .1555
liner thickness .0400, .0390
washer thickness .0150, .0150

The blade tang looks identical between old and the cutout for the lock bar in the liner looks identical as well (except they added a third hole for the omega spring).

I think the G10 version feels better balanced and it is nice G10. Tried putting Ti scales on the new one, but the revised pivot will not go all the way through the scale and the old pivot introduces up and down blade play.

Sharpening was definitely better on the new G10 copy. Even on both sides and no burrs like I had on the Ti version. Stone wash is stronger on the new blade and I do not see any of the vertical machining lines on it as I do on the first one.

Sending the Ti version in for an 'update', will report on that when I have it back.

My micarta one has no issues. I believe it was a Blade Texas pickup that I bought on the secondary. Great action, only a tiny bit of blade movement when I got it that I was able to remedy with a twist of the pivot screw. Very happy with it.
I can report the same, slight blade play resolved with the smallest adjustment of the pivot screw. The Axis lock is better than the last Adamas I had. Machining on the titanium is excellent and the anodizing is beautiful. I got it secondhand in a trade, it was a blade show special as well. Very satisfied with it. Here it is with my fullsize SHF to show handle thickness.

Most? The < $100 Kizer Drop Bear that just arrived does not do this, and it's on bearings. I don't recall any of my Benchmade or Kunwu Pulsar and Manix 2 doing this.

It wont stop me from using it, but it adds an extra level of worry I'll carry when I have it on me. I don't want to drop it, have it pop open, and then poke somebody or something that it shouldn't.
My last Adamas would drop open with just the right flick.

I was contemplating purchasing a Maverick, but based on this thread (as well as a few video reviews I watched) I’ve decided to pass.

It’s a shame because it looks like a beautiful knife.

Just to add another voice into the mix, this was my experience. I got on the list right away to order a Maverick. I got to order mine in May and when it came it had significant issues. There was blade play, and the action wasn't dialed in, and it was a good bit off center. Moreover, the swedge on the back of the blade was misground and visibly uneven.

I wrote to their customer service and they were super responsive, sent me the form I needed to send it in for warranty work, and paid for all shipping. I forgot to send it in for like, 3 months because life and I'm lazy and whatever, but then when I finally got around to sending it in, they emailed me a couple days later saying they had it and were working on it, then sent me a progress update the next day, and then had it turned around to send back to me a day or two after that. I think they may have replaced the whole knife, they definitely replaced the blade, which was what I had definitely wanted.

Anyway, the knife I received back was dead on perfect. No adjustment needed to get the action right, centering was perfect, the lockup was absolutely rock solid in all directions, the blade was perfectly ground, the factory edge was sharp enough that I haven't yet felt a need to sharpen it myself on the Wicked Edge, and that's saying something, most knives I get just go straight on there. I carried the knife for a month straight and it's still a top piece in my rotation now.

So, in sum, my two cents is that Tactile had some serious issues when they first rolled this out, as is well documented. They've also been up front about that. Since then, they seem to have dialed in their process very thoroughly and what is coming out now seems to be top notch. Their customer service was also the best I've probably dealt with from a production company before. So, for me what started out as maybe turning me off from them as a company has ended with, I'm definitely going to get their next model as soon as I can when it drops. They are doing great work, are honest and putting in what it takes to fix the bugs in their system, and clearly are committed to their product and their customers.

A US-based company worth supporting + customer service that's committed to making right anything that's wrong + designs that are excellent and unique = my business.

So if I'm understanding this correctly, Tactile might have figured out that the vertical play was a slightly mismatched pivot/pivot hole? That certainly tracks with my experience.

I ended up offloading mine. I'm glad they figured the issue out, but I'm probably going to pass on future Tactile models after dealing with their service department.

I got a pretty good one! Picked up one of the recent G10 versions (I went with green). The knife isn't perfect: it's not as sharp as it should be (easy fix), and is a little stiff when the pivot is tightened enough to eliminate blade play. But overall it's not bad. Good centering, solid lockup, even grinds, etc. The knife is just not as exciting as I thought it would be. Feels a bit soulless.
