Anybody Get a Good Tactile Knife Co. Maverick Yet?

I bought one earlier in the year direct from them. looks good, but functionally and build wise is junk to me. lots of up and down blade play and cant be adjusted out. to use it one handed allows for blade play side to side. can adjust it out but is no longer drop open or shut. the titanium seems to be a thin cap over i think steel liners? not impressed at the price point. I threw it a spyderpac and haven't messed with it since. I figured i just got a bad one...as I saw lots of good review videos.

I must have lucked out. I have a few and none of them exhibit the issues brought up here. There is definitely some inconsistency between them as far as "drop shutty". Not a big concern for me. I think they are good carry knives. Thin, nice action and I like the different handle styles that I've been able to pick up.

Certainly is concerning to hear everybody's experience with their customer service.

I just recently got my Maverick back from Tactile to check out slight vertical play. It took about a week for them to respond to my email, and was told to send it in and they would check it out. I just received the knife back a few days ago, which only took ~10 days. The repair ticket said that they replaced the liners, and lockup and tolerances passed QC.

The vertical play was eliminated however the lateral play was excessive which I could not adjust out. You literally had to tighten the pivot screw down very very tight to eliminate the play. The knife was actually worse after their repair, and I was actually sorry I sent it in at all. I ended up disassembling the knife to see if I could see what was going on, and the only thing I could find was the replacement liners had burrs around the pivot holes.(all holes in the new liners had burrs) I have some small machinist files was able to knocked the burrs down. It took two attempts, the first time I reassembled the knife it had the same amount of blade slop. Then I wrote the deleted rant post above…haha. After I cooled off a bit I decided to give it another shot. I disassembled again and found that I missed some of the burrs. My QC failed…haha. I re-filed and made sure the all the burrs were completely gone and reassembled. The second time around did the trick, the lateral play and vertical play are now gone, and the knife is functioning as it should.
Tactile’s customer service was great, however the QC is definitely lacking. This knife should never have left the repair shop like this…..but alls well that ends well.
On a side note does anyone else’s Maverick blade ramp look like this? I suspect that my Maverick is one of the beta versions, that was rehabbed and sent out into the wild.

I bought a Maverick off the forums and am very happy with it. No vertical or horizontal play, sharp enough for a factory edge, no large amount of flex to the scales. I like it a lot and have been carrying it for a week now. Crossbar locks are very satisfying to manipulate for me so I have been wanting to get a couple different companies versions to see how they made them. I still want a mini RSK and a Kershaw belair too.

I will agree that the full steel liners make the knife heavier than I would prefer for the Ti version, but the Ti scales are extremely slim so I'm not sure how thick those steel liners are. Looks like maybe 0.05", which is pretty beefy. Makes me more interested in the carbon fiber version than I previously was. I'd like the Ti scales to be a bit thicker for comfort but not sure I want to pay the weight penalty. The milling texture is deeper than photos suggest and it well done.

The detent is a little light, but not going to open up in my pocket or unintentionally. Those familiar with Axis locks know the feel as a rolling detent as the tang pushes the lockbar put of the way. The pivot is smooth and has a cool soft-close effect from, I guess, the grease they use.

I love the thin blade stock and the slim profile when closed. I dont feel the weight in the pocket at all and in hand the balance of a folding knife is immaterial to me. This knife is a cutter, thin stock and thin grind are a wonderful combination.

Minor nit pick from me is that the lockbar only engages the tang about .08", which hardly even looks like it makes it to the halfway point on the lockbar. This make disengagement easier by the user, but I'd like to see a little more engagement with the tang for a little extra safety. Add a little more material above/around the lockbar recess in the closed position to help with light detent and they are in the sweet spot in my opinion.

Overall I think its a great knife, but my example met all my expectations.
