Anyone else just stopped buying knives?

I’ve stopped buying, sold a few and am in the process of rediscovering a few in my collection that have been somewhat neglected these past few years. I’d certainly like to buy two or three new knives that intrigue me but the current economy precludes such expenditures for the foreseeable future. 😳

Have not stopped. If anything, it has gotten worse. I have pretty much stopped buying modern folders, but channelled it all into fixed blades. In so doing, I have lost all my cheapskate cred. I am now waiting for a Carothers and a Busse. Then I have bought a couple of modest customs off the exchange. And I have undertaken a mild billhook binge, with mixed results.

I still look for cheap knives, and use mostly cheap knives, but spend more time thinking about handles, which is what drew me into the more spendy knives in the first place.
I stopped buying modern folders and have now switch to traditional slipjoints.....I know that feeling.

I stopped buying them a few months ago when I started making them. If I want a new knife now, I draw out a pattern and have fun with the process.

I've often wondered and talked with various makers over This.....
I think it's interesting to what makers will buy.

I'm like you, in that I'm going to want to make it myself, First.

The last couple years my buying was for research.

Ran a stop sign earlier this evening but only after paying fines for two others that I blew through a week or so ago.

Is this what stop means?

I guess I have gone the other direction. So many traditional knives, which I dearly love, gave stiff pulls and my finger nails will not tolerate it anymore. There are still a few traditional knives that i carry ( my peanuts for example) but I normally carry modern folders.

It's been days since I shelled out cash for a blade. Days! The fact that there are a ton of tabs open on my browser from three different knife retailers should be taken as a measure of restraint on my part.

I do the same with exchange ads, I refresh them and hope they sell before I talk myself into them!

These days I'm more likely to be relieved than disappointed, when someone else's credit card takes one for the team, and I get denied.😄 I'm trying to convince myself that I don't need to own every knife as fast as humanly possible and to slow things down a bit.

When that happens is when I also take a break from here, sometimes for years at a time.

I'm almost never without a knife, though, even if it's just a little Victorinox Classic. ;-)

I can see myself in 10 years reverting back, if something modern catches my eye I won't pass on it though currently, just see the collection heading in a different direction.

firearms and ammunition have taken precedence over knives in recent years. There is a lot I still need to get my hands on before the Trudeau regime bans everything. I’ve found I can do basically anything I need to do with a Buck 110, a KA-BAR 1217, and a Victorinox Spirit X.

There are still a ton of knives I drool over though.
