Anyone Else Stash Knives?

With grand kids running around the house now I have to be careful about stashing knives around the house. But, like Barman1 Barman1 I do have my Leatherman and friends in their appropriate places for “emergencies” and bike repairs.

Of course. I don't do it in a tactical way. I'm not hanging a plastic knife off the head of my shower in case my home is invaded and my privy door kicked in at 6:15 in the morning while I'm getting clean.

But yes, I keep a back up folder in the console of my truck in case I leave mine at home. I have a couple in my desk and other places in the office in case I need it. Usually what happens is that I have to leave my knife in my truck to go pull permits at the courthouse, and I forget to grab it. Instead of walking back out there, I just use whatever I have in the desk to do the cutting task.

One of my office staff latched onto my serrated Tasman Salt as a box opener about a decade ago and I think it still lives in her drawer.

I've got at least one multi tool and a couple of folders in the kitchen junk drawer for various packages opening uses. These generally come into play on a Saturday or Sunday morning where I am still sporting my PJ pants and haven't "kitted up" for the day :D

I just refuse to call it stashing. I call it planning ahead! Who knows when I'll have to cut something. In my truck. In her car. In the living room/kitchen/bedroom/garage. And I usually find myself carrying two or three different blade shapes in pockets. No stashing here!

I keep a few at work in case I forget one from home or I decide to hunt or fish if I get done early. There is a knife, multitool and a flashlight with energizer lithiums in every car we have. Add an axe and a shovel in my truck and the Cherokee.

RE the OP:

Well no, you are not the only one to distribute knives hither-thither-and-yon. I do something like that, but not as extensively and with less apparent emphasis on self defense.

The concept of an EDC knife lessens the need to "stash" other knives around. I do have a machete under the back seat of my pickup along with a folding shovel and the tiire tools. for example. M y camera bag also has a Walmart multitool and 30 t of paracord in a pocket.

When out and about, my EDC is a Leatherman Wave. This is one component of my going out the door kit along with my phone, wallet and keys. At times this is backed up by a large Spyderco clipped into my back pocket. Wherever I am, that is where they are. The need to extensivly stash blades around seems less important if I already have one on my person.

Oh, and here is a quality folder on the elbow tab le by my recliner next to my "coffee" too. Typically, I use it to open the mail.

Yup, a Victorinox Huntsman in the console of the truck and car. A Fisherman…well in the boat. A Recruit in my work backpack. A Hunter…well in my hunting backpack. All on the slim chance I forget to toss something in my pocket. The only ones that ever seem to see use are the Hunter after I tag something and the Recruit for some tasks at work requiring a tool vs a blade.

I have Victorinox Classic SDs stashed all over the place (multiple parts of house, car, office, my wife's purses, etc.). But the rest of my knives I like to keep together in one place.

I keep a knife and a light everywhere I keep a pistol. I also keep a Sebenza and a Malkoff on my work desk incase I somehow leave my folder or light at home.

It’s not for defensive purposes. My harness knife is for cutting webbing, my desk knife is for opening envelopes and packages, with its sub-2” blade. Heaven knows what my shop knife will do. Sometimes my Voyager doesn’t make it and I need a knife anyway.

None of mine are for defense purposes, either. They're strategically placed so that I don't need to search for things. And different situations do indeed require different knives.

I do not have a program to change text from gun to knife, but you get the idea.

Yes I have knives stashed all around lol. In my lunchbox, office desk, garage and most importantly my vehicles. I learned a long time ago that a backup stashed away in the glove box or console can be a lifesaver! I usually have at least my two carry knives on me but I have forgotten to put them in my pocket a few times going to work in a hurry. And if one gets lost, broken or goes dull in a desperate need a good sharp knife is close by.

None in the bathroom, I prefer tissue paper to cut the crap 😆

Don't worry, all genius knife collectors do this.

Here's my current stashing habit:

- Car #1 - Leatherman Surge in the glove box
- Car #2 - Gerber MP600 Pro Scout in the glove box
- Desk drawer at work:
* CRKT Pilar for box duty
* 4" kitchen knife for lunch duty
* Victorinox CyberTool M for mechanical duty and the toothpick
- Desk drawer at home - Victorinox Workchamp
- Kitchen drawer - Victorinox Skipper
- Valet in bedroom - Leatherman Juice S2
- EDC Shoulder bag - Leatherman Charge Al
- Car console - Victorinox Classic (a fancy toothpick holder!)
- Wife's keys - Victorinox Classic
- Wife's purse - (one of the cheap Kershaw liner locks...)
- Range bag - Gerber MP400
- Seat bag on bicycle - Gerber MP400 and a fold up metric allen wrench set

My "EDC" knife is actually the only one that varies! I can go light, because I have knives and multi-tools stashed everywhere!

I do stash a few blades here and there. Being a fan of the Maximum minimalist thing, my usual pocket knife is a little Case Peanut size of knife. Small SAK, or such. It does for 98% of what I need, but I know that once in a while I need something a bit more. So I stash 12 inch Ontario machete's in my car trunk, the wife's car trunk, out in the shop building in the backyard, in the garage. I figure if 2 inches of blade is too small, then 12 inches will do it. A small machete makes a great camp kitchen slicer, kindling buster and what ever. I've got a spare SAK in the glovebox of the car as well. I figure that between my pocket knife and small machete, it covers all the basis.
